Have owned and use two 5-gallon SureCans for nearly two years. Fabulous. One came with the black, one-piece cap. No problems. The second came with the yellow multi-part cap with spring-loaded hatch. It leaked because the spring-loaded hatch / gasket wasn't centered on the larger piece that threads onto the neck of the main can. I called SureCan, described the issue and they promptly shipped me one of the one-piece black caps. No leaks now and pleased with Customer Service.
The best fuel cans I have ever used. Bought 2 cans, one gas one diesel. Liked them so much, bought 2 more. Great for the zero turn and generators. These are made with great quality and replacement parts are readily available on their website. Made in the USA by a reputable company. Hoping they last for years but not worried because of replacement parts they keep in stock. Thanks for an easy can to use because of a great design!
Great job of describing all the details of an amazing fuel can!! I own both gas and diesel versions. They both deliver!! Unfortunate for the US population the federal government messed with all the normal gas cans which caused the problem of finding a gas can that works. Thank you Sure can for an amazing product!!!
These gas cans are great. Picked four up at Sam's a couple years ago. They function great except for the black plastic elbow that connects the pour spout to the can. It tends to crack and leak. I have lost several gallons of gas over the last couple of years because of this. I contacted SureCan and they sent me replacements both times the elbows broke. I did find a hack to permanently fix the spouts and keep them from cracking.
Thanks for letting us know of your experience. Do you want to share your hack? If you want to talk to me directly, you can do so at jay@dirtfarmerjay.com. If the hack is something that can be done readily by most people, we'll film it and give you the credit for the idea. Fair enough? Best, DFJ
YEARS AGO, Before the advent of EPA cans, they used to sell 7 gallon fuel cans. I bought 4 of them from WalMart for a trip to Death Valley. I have been using those cans all these years. Still working fine but I expect them to pop a pinhole leak at anytime. !
At the one year mark, these cans have held up well. It’s hard to drop $50 for a gas can, but it’s been worth it. End of season last year, I picked them up at BJ’s Wholesale for $25 for the five gallon cans. If one was lost or stolen, I’d have no problem spending $50. They are just that good and so easy to use.
I have 3 2.5 gallon cans and 2 5 gallon cans. They are the best gas cans I ever have used. I had a leak on one of the hoses several years ago. I talked with a rep at the equip expo and he gave me a new hose. I put it on and it solved the problem. Mine are the older models, but great cans anyway. I planning on picking up another can this year at their booth at the equip expo.❤
These are some great insights based on your actual experience with the cans. My sense is SureCanUSA provides good service and warranties after the sale. Thanks for writing and sharing your experience! Best, DFJ
Wow wow wow! A gas can that delivers all that and safe to use! I'm sold. Thanks for showing this great product. Sorry that a bunch of losers had to steal the show. Thanks for setting the record straight! You are making a difference Jay❤
I got 3 of these a couple years ago they work great got a long neck funnel from Harbor Frieght used a heat gun to bend the neck a little stick that in gas tank sit can on bed rail of truck put filler tube in funnel and pull handle no lifting or holding can
I've had a 5 gal unit for about 3 years...didn't like paying the price, but was FED UP with bad gas cans...these get the job done! I think they've modified the fill cap since I bought mine...have to unscrew the cap on mine...
Indeed, there has been a significant price increase in the short time since we've produced this episode. While that is disappointing, I still do believe that the cost of ownership over the long haul is very good. Thanks for watching and taking time to write! Best, DFJ
TH-cam ads aren't any better. I've seen so many scams in TH-cam ads that I don't trust any of them. Those on air antennas are a perfect example. They want people to think they can watch satellite TV with them.
Indeed. As a TH-cam Creator, we get to see a bit of the back door on some of this and I've now starting actively notifying platforms when there is a scam, come-on, or knock-off being sold after stealing idea, engineering, or event advertising assets from a legit company. Even so, the platforms are slow to respond.
Sorry to hear this. It's a unfortunate economic reality with inflation at the rate it is. I didn't know about the price increase. Thanks for letting me know. I'd suggest seeing you can obtain them at the lower price at retail outlets like motorsports stores, farm and ranch supplies and such. Also, there is a 20% discount being offered on the SureCanUSA website right now. Best, DFJ
How do you know when the can is getting full. Can you see through the can. And were you put the gas in what keeps the gas from splashing out, when transporting it.
Thanks for writing! I listen to the pitch of sound as the can gets full. That's one clue. The other is to watch on the pump how much you've dispensed. I put slightly under 5 gallons into the 5 gallon capacity can last week and it worked beautifully. The can didn't splash gas when transported due to both the baffle inside the fill spout (it looks like a miniature version of the baffle in your kitchen waste disposal), and how strong the spring is that holds the lid shut. I hope this helps! Best Regards, DFJ
I bought a VP Racing gas can several years ago from Ace Hardware that is that exact can. I never seen them for sale in there since. I wish I bought more that one but they were almost 50 bucks at the time.
Thanks for letting us know. As you indicate, VP fuel cans are a different configuration than SureCanUSA cans are. These higher quality storage cans have never been inexpensive, but they sure do hold up longer. Best, DFJ
Ok, my BS meter pegged when you started talking about built-in fire suppression. There is no reset when you failed to go into actual detail how that works. It's a neat gimmick but I don't see nearly enough value in it to justify that price point
Charles, thanks for weighing in. What is meant is the can works in a way that reduces vapor that can ignite into the interior of the can easily. BS? Bible Study? Boy Scouts? I'm not sure what you mean. ;-) Best, DFJ
I have the 5 gal one. It's a good gas container but, when filling it the spring loaded fuller cap is held together with a ball & socket , much like a car mirror is held on it's mount. this black cap has come off on the second time of filling it. I think this could have been thought out better.
Thanks for the feedback. The lid can be a bit stiff. I had to get used to it, but have gotten it mastered now and it keeps aligned and tight for transport. Best, DFJ
I use my 5 gallon can to fill my rider (JD X534). I just set it on the fender or seat, lower the spout and fill the tank. I don't use it for my trim mower; still using my 50 yr old metal 2.5 gal can for that.
A push mower or riding mower? In either case, I find a surface on the machine near the fuel port and set the can on it. Then I turn the spout sideways and turn the end into the gas tank. Pull the lever and watch into the tank until the right amount is dispensed, release the lever and you're done. I hope this helps! Best, DFJ
From time to time, you do hear of this happening. I've talked to the manufacturer about this. They indicate there are two Viton® seals in the swivel joint. This is the same material used for seals and gaskets in truck, tractor and automobile fuel systems. They indicate a failure is rare, but they have rebuild kits they send out should this occur. I can tell you that the people that I've talked to that have these fuel storage containers indicate they've had no problems - for what that is worth. Thanks for watching and writing! Best, DFJ
Right on. Where do you typically acquire them, what is the price range, how easy are they to dispense from, and do the "glug-glug" when pouring out fuel? Let me know and perhaps we'll do a side by side comparison between them and some other fuel containers. Best, DFJ
My favorite part of the video is when you told the price and kept a strait face, guessing that's because yours were free. When fueling many things, you still have to hold the fuel can elevated and that is difficult for many, especially women and seniors. Get a regular can that doesn't require refinancing your home and either a manual or battery operated tranfer pump. Works for cars, lawn mowers, chainsaws and anything where you don't want to hold a heavy can or wash the item with gasoline.
Glad to give you a smile. But in all seriousness, I'd like to think I have enough integrity that whether the product was provided to me or not, I would (and did) give my honest opinion. These cans are not cheap - price or construction-wise. As for holding the can aloft to dispense fuel, I set the can on a portion of the engine or equipment and turn the spout sideways and flex the tip down into the port and dispense away. It works really well. I gave one of these cans (the 2-1/2 gallon version) to my brother who is a sports pilot. He set the can on a cloth on the wing surface adjacent to the fuel cap and ran the hose sideways and down into the tank. It worked beautifully and allowed him to dispense the whole can. Thanks for watching and writing! Best, DFJ
@DirtFarmerJay I never questioned your integrity or honesty, just how matter of fact you quoted the price of them as if it weren't ridiculously overpriced. Maybe if they weren't provided to you for free, and you paid for them with your own money, you would've elaborated further on the obscene price of that plastic gas can. As far as my suggestion for using a transfer pump with a common or already owned fuel can so you can sit it on the GROUND, I still believe it to be a far simple, cost effective and safer way. This gas can is nothing but a novelty for DIYers and gadget junkies and presenting it in any other light is disingenuous in my opinion. Maybe we can agree to disagree and transfer our fuel as we each see fit.

Why is there different cans for different gas or is it just a label
They have labels, but do have a different colored can for diesel, and a white one with different fittings for water.
$77.50 on their website for a 5 gallon gas can? It looks like a great design but that price is unrealistic for a plastic gas can.
