    Hello everyone,
In our previous episode, Maddy (aka @Maddastic) showed us how to create a character from A to Z. The link to that video is down below. Creating a character is not easy, but definitely fun!
There are many angles you can look at before designing a character. And your illustration depends on what your goals are: is it for an animated series? Is it for manga? For a children’s book? This will let you know how to approach your character's world, personality, goals, and fears. Which in turn will determine how their facial expressions will look like, what's their posture, and what clothes and accessories you need to bestow them with. So be sure to check out her tutorial that gives you the full low-down.
For this episode, however, we asked Maddy to teach you guys her creative process when shading. Adding shadows and highlights to your work will give your designs tha much more dimension. In our last video, we’ve reached a point where we needed to give our character a bit more dimension and depth. The illustration was looking quite flat. It’s as if there was no source of light in this character's universe, which is definitely not the case. In the same way that it’s important to create three-dimensional characters, it’s equally as important for their visual representation to follow suit.
Our next video will focus on finalizing this entire artwork with the last piece of the puzzle:
    ► Background design
So be sure to check that out too!
This video is part of a bigger series called Vectornator Design Tips, which is meant to help you become a better illustrator and designer. If this feels too advanced, check out our Dictionary video series which explains the basics of good design.

This seems to be easier than creating multiple layers of polygon shapes all with different shade of same color.

Thanks so much! ❤️ Means a lot. We do love Procreate and we feel that our apps work very good together, because they excel at raster graphics and we excel in vectors hihi
