    It is really interesting, we have very much in common besides the age (I am 55). I have also always collected audiophile LPs, mainly classical music, but also been interested in avantgarde, experimental and electronic music and the so called "New Music" and I am a musician myself. And this is somehow an outsider position in the "audiophile community" which often tends to be rather conservative musically and listens to the same sixties to eighties rock titles over and over again. This is an exaggeration of course and I concede this has improved over the last years, but anyway I am always pleasantly surprised when there are people who have such a broad musical horizon like you.

    Hi everybody, I am not an audiophile listener, I own a copy of the CD boxset and to my ears sounds fantastic. Bureau B is located in Hamburg, in the Altona district. Last year I went from Milan (I am Italian) to Hamburg for tourism and paid them a visit. Nice people, absolutely caring for the music. These boxsets should have a reissue in my opinion, I know they are sought after.

    I discovered this band in 1974, A friend of mine turned me on to them and I said , this is different and experimental. It B was the Faust so far album. I love it and found as a import and cost a lot, but it was worth it. The album I didn't know about was the first album with x-ray picture. I just discovered it last year. I followed them thru out the years and love Faust 4 .

    I wish their self-titled debut was the transparent version, that really makes the x-ray of the hand stand out in a striking way. Anyway, I already have that pressing so might as well get the box set too.

      I scored a new copy of the 2007 reissue of the self titled debut on Lilith Ltd on clear vinyl last spring. It’s in a transparent jacket with the x-ray cover and lyrics printed on the front. So it’s out there if you’re looking for a reissue to complement your original LP.
      Found the Bureau B box set for pre-order in the US just now - reasonably priced - think I need this 😀 And a lot of Bureau B catalog is available on Bandcamp already. Very excited for this.
      Correction: it’s a clear insert within the clear jacket

    I really love this band. Almost everything they have done, also the newer stuff since they have split into two different groups. Thankfully, also the newer albums are all available on vinyl. Faust are of course not such good musicians as Can are, but they share the same kind of open spirit.

    Great important band. I bought it online when it first came but then cancelled my order a couple of weeks later. This boxset was way too much money for what you get in my opinion and when you added up all the extra cost of bringing it over to Canada it was a no brainer. I'm hoping to build up a decent section on Kraut rock and this will now be a hole in that collection. Another great video and I hope you do a follow up video when you have made a definitive decision on it.

    I agree with you about the 70s version of this band being the best but I have a fondness for the 90s LP Rein which sounds amazing and was issued on vinyl on the Table of the Elements label. I haven’t received my box yet so can’t compare to originals yet.

    I hope that these albums get reissued separately on vinyl in due course. I already own a great copy of "Faust" and a UK original pressing of "Faust Tapes", so I didn't preorder this boxset.

      BBC sessions and 71 Minutes / Munich Tapes and all RER pressings are fantastic, and it seems nothing of the extras on those are included in this box, and both 2 extra cds/lps include ALL NEW Material

    FAUST - graet and interesting music. I collected FAUST since my last year in Highschool in 1973. By the way, I don’t like the word „Krautrock“. I prefere „German Rock“. Take care. Hubert/Mosbach

    Terrible mastering - very over-compressed. For example, the CD versions are in the range of 6-8 DR. They are LOUD. The original Caroline Faust IV CD is for comparison is a healthy 13DR. With regards the vinyl box, I could not get past one track of Faust IV. One friend who also has the vinyl box has stuck it in the cupboard in disgust. The person who mastered these recordings is not even a professional engineer but a guitarist from a noise rock band. And that's probably why his mixes of the unreleased tracks are dense and congested, making the band sound a modern noise band, and robbing the music of all the space, dynamics, and nuance that their music deserves. A much better way to hear (some of) those Munich recordings is the ReR Wumme CD boxset. In terms of the first four studio albums, this box is only for people who do not have earlier pressings.
    'The 45rpm Audiophile', l keeps calling this box great. I beg to differ. A great band, yes. But the box is not great sounding, and the unreleased material poorly selected and poorly presented. Admittedly, he hints at it but is seemingly unprepared to say so. A wasted opportunity. Recommended Records did Faust so much better.

    • @DeutschesFolkArchiv
      @DeutschesFolkArchiv 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agree on that - I find the mix totally annoying - the mix on Faust V (unreleased LP) is buried and less dynamic - just listen to the Wumme Box or the existing bootleg - miles away to this shit mix here! As a die-hard-fan really disappointed!

    I own the first two LPs as originals. But I'm quite honest, I can't explain why I bought these confused sound collages once. Because of your video I put on the debut album and I find it totally overrated. Why is that considered important and influential today ? For me, much of the Krautrock is much too hyped. A lot of it was just diletantish crap that is elevated to cult status today. Just because it falls out of the norm or is so-called Krautrock, it is not good.

    • @markusberzborn6346
      @markusberzborn6346 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In a way you are right. But many of the most interesting experimental new wave/post punk bands in the late seventies and early eighties were also dilettantes in a strictly traditional musical sense. And it was exactly this lack of technical background that often brought about worthwhile, fresh results.

    • @theheepster
      @theheepster 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@markusberzborn6346 I can live with that and your statement is true in some cases, but still, some of those bands from that time are considered more influential than they really were. I was born in 1954 and have moved in the 70s and 80s in the music scene, mainly in Hannover, at that time a music stronghold. Since you could still little with technology beautiful in this time, that was partly really cruel. There were more bad than good bands. Faust was certainly one of the technically good bands, but what good is all that if the music, as we say in Germany, "auf den Sack geht". I was at the Faust concert with about 150 spectators. After a good half hour, only about half were still there, probably the stoned ones.

    • @markusberzborn6346
      @markusberzborn6346 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@theheepster But this is actually a good sign. As Holger Czukay from Can said: "If you have never had the experience that everybody has left at the end of your gig, you are no good." 🙂

    • @simonlucas2599
      @simonlucas2599 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand you may not like the band's music, but you say: 'A lot of it was just diletantish crap'. In what sense can it be described as 'diletantish' ?
