Great! Thanks for showing these! We always appreciate your vast Krautrock knowledge & presenting what you have & find! When we were collecting Krautrock in the late 70's & early 80's from the Import sections of our record shops, we could only collect what was sent to the U.S. at the time, so it's really great to see such an outstanding wide selection!! Very Cool!! 😎
I think what makes this period and style of German "rock" (in the broadest sense of the term) so interesting and fascinating up to this day is the open-minded spirit and attitude of freedom, individuality and joy of experimentation these groups had.
New to the channel, nice to see these old titles. Grew up with a bit of what is now called Krautrock, my father was into a lot of 60's/70's/80's rock, Ammon Dull, Klaus Schulz, Jane, Grobbschniit, Can and a few others as well as all the UK stuf. Sadly many of his originals were damaged by my niece when she was a toddler, and many many years after his death, when I started my own family, I had no choice but to sell my vinyl. I remember the second hand dealers asking me to hold off until summer as German tourists would love it, but we needed space, I was under pressure, and simply traded them in for new CD's most often. Thankfully a lot of it is available to stream, my primary source is CD, not much vinyl left, but maybe if CD catches on we will see vinyl come back down to affordable prices.
Thanks Michael for another brilliant video - an amazing selection indeed but I would add Manuel Gottsching E2E4 to that list .. a truly timeless and massively influential record …
Michael thanks for new Krautrock recommendations to look for that Frumpy and Ashra Templ 6 Manuel Göttsching is stunning so many albums way under the radar . Happy New Year brother .
Breakdown of me watching this video: 1) yay! m45 is doing a Krautrock Video!!! 2) Frumpy / inventions for Electric Guitar - Yay! I already have great OGs of these!! 3) My Solid Ground / AR3 … hmmm don’t know these let me stream them… 4) wow they’re great!! Let me add them to my wantlist!! 5) checks pricing for OG’s on Discogs 6)!!!!!!! 7) Sad trombone!!😢 Seriously though, great video Michael maybe if I can make a den Bosch trip I might find these and a lot others. Happy New Year
Have recently finished reading Kraftwerk Publication: A Biography which also gives an overview of KrautRock and the desire/need to create an entirely different and original kind of music in Germany after WWII. Quite a wonderful and interesting book. I do love that music so and happily will see Kraftwerk Multimedia Tour and then Michael Rother at Big Ears Festival in March. Again, inclusion of brief musical interludes help with context and are greatly appreciated! Thank you for sharing your devotion and knowledge my fine Dusseldorf Internet friend!
Hey I just stumbled upon your channel. Its fantastic :) . Thanks for turning us on to these records! I have loved krautrock in its many forms for a long time but you have introduced me to some real gems this morning! If the feeling takes you please check out our album - SKULL ISLAND SIDECARS (SIS) . Its a garage psych album really but I think you might appreciate the last track "Johnny". Anyhow hope you enjoy it:) , thanks :)
Fantastic Michael. While I've always been into the more 'kosmische' end of the krautrock spectrum since the mid-'70s, I've found that there is so much more to appreciate and to learn. You've brought your usual enthusiasm for music to this fascinating genre. I note that My Solid Ground has been re-released on vinyl, so I will definitely check it out. BTW I still have a 'zebra' inner sleeve from a Kin Ping Meh album I had in '75!
I have one or 2 odd Planck productions here. He was a pioneer with amazing quirks. Your personal dive into Kraut on this was and is a lovely way to get folks to enter what actually is a very wide genre and so fascinating as one Post WW2.
As usual very interesting im very fond of krautrock especialy mickael rother work with of course neu! but harmonia with serr kosmich and popol vuh florian fricke was famous in germany for his work with Werner Herzog german music is soo good ...thanx for posting :-)
So enjoyed learned details about the Krautrock records you chose to discuss. Must compliment you on the video/audio production quality. Thank you, Michael !
That was infotaining 😊 Most recent K-Rock find is Heldon IV. Seems I have a local competitor who beat me to the Can records last BF but I did get that one.
Achim Reichel started out in the 60's beat rock band The Rattles, then went on to Wonderland for one album before his incredible records with A. R. & Machines. Excellent selection of krautrock records!
Hey Michael. Great video! Thanks for playing and showing this genre. I own a good amount of it... but I'm always on the lookout for more. Just ordered "My Solid Ground". Cheers
It’s becoming quite noticeable that you have a particularly close relationship with Krautrock. 😉 Langsam fällt es schon a bisserl auf Michael! 😁 Always great to be able to hear sound bits of the albums, thanks for that. Greetings from Vienna, George 👍
So vieles Live erlebt, unbeschreiblich.
Your passion for Krautrock almost trips you up, as you try to convey exactly how much it means to you and why we should be listening to it more. A beautiful review, and the examples played came across so well here too, thank you.
sehr cooles Video.
Hi Michael, again and again really nice stuff - I like it 👍 Ashra Tempel has one member who was very famous, more than Manuel G. and it was Klaus Schulze. 😄 👍 Gruß DJSocki
Michael, what was the record that was played at the beginning of the video "OBC - Wall Of Records: 2025 Here We Come!", which you described as a Krautrock record? Great presentation of not so obvious and well known Krautrock records. Thank you!
Great stuff. Some really wonderful music. Not a huge fan of the female version of Joe Cocker's A little Help From My Friends (Sounded a lot like that to my ears :) ) But loved the rest. Great Video!

Die A.R. & Machines (Achim Reichel): 71/17 Another Green Journey: Live At Elbphilharmonie Hamburg , war ja schon mal eine super Sache für uns Fans. Hello. Ash Ra Temple was my first album bought at Woolfies in Stockholm which started this for me. Buy the book by Ulrich Klatte Cosmic Price Guide if you like this style.....
I really like krautrock. I have about 15 records. But its not in my top 5 genres. My problem is the muscianship and the vocals. Its very rare to find jimi hendrix level guitarists in krautrock. also hearing them sing in english with a heavy accent is a bit of a turn off for me. I wish they would sing in german a lot of the times. I would prefer it.
In my opinion, it is a big failure on your behalf, that you never mention on your Krautrock videos the most creative and innovative of all the german bands which represents this genre: FAUST. They were the first to assume the term "Krautrock", and even used it to name a track on their masterpiece "IV". And no other band created such an importante document that better defines Krautrock as good as "The Wümme Years" (Boxset ReR records). Kraut on its purest form.

Exactly!
Great watch, you should really do more of these "Here Is Why" videos, exploring other genres with a small track selection.
