My brother and I watched the other two movies in this series because we also have the tradition of watching live-action movies for animes. We watched the last movie last night, and I fell asleep by the end.
Just a tiny off-topic observation but I *adore* how you frame your videos... the slightly off-centre, almost rule of 3rds with all the books in the background. It's glorious 💝
I was wondering if you’ve considered watching the 2003 anime version of FMA. It came out before the manga had finished, so the first quarter of the story starts off the same but then completely goes in its own direction. I always thought it was an interesting AU to the original story. Also, I know you’ll never watch the follow-ups of this live action, but interesting fact: the actor for Scar in the next movies is the actor for Zoro in the One Piece live action!
It is so weird. I watched this movie. I know I did. My girlfirend tells me I did. But still I cannot recall a single scene from this movie. I cannot remember any plotpoint. Thank you for sharing the snark. It seems my brain was overloaded and is not able to bare the memory of this movie.
I haven’t watched this movie, but I do appreciate the attempt to make the actors look like the characters they’re playing. I’m so used to other adaptations not even trying to do that much.
Ok I needed a break for like a day because of the horror flashbacks from the mere mention of the wig. I hated this movie so much. They got rid of all character development, they changed things way too much, removed all the emotional context, and MY GOD THAT DAMN WIG. It's just so bad 😭 and the final showdown was just a badly butchered final act from the Manga that makes 0 sense. Hakuro being the big bad guy only to confuse everyone. I'm so sure marcoh dying after 2 seconds was to avoid talking about any uncomfy things, same with completely ignoring Mustang and Hawkeyes backstory and writing out scar (but don't worry he has his own movie!). My god. I'm going to mutter about this for the next 2 weeks and I'm blaming you merphy. (Jk it's not you it's me)
Oh and also the fact that they used the teenage/adult Ed for the flashback to the portal with like minimal explanation. AND THE DAMN WIG. I will never get over this. I do think that they did a decent job at Ed and Al's relationship whenever they do show it. I also liked the subtle parts at how Ed cares a lot for Al. Also Hughes was great. Spot on. If they screwed up Hughes I think everyone would have rioted.
I didn’t mind this one so much. I am glad to see there is effort to make the characters look like their anime/manga counterparts unlike many American movies do with adaptations.
I love how you just went in knowing it's not going to be a good movie and just treated it as a comedy or anti-fullmetal alchemist metal manga/anime. Lol. I enjoyed this video sooo much, I love your sense of humour!
There is a blooper reel you can watch at the end of FMAB that is easily one of the most hilarious things I have ever seen and I highly recommend it. Might even be worth trying a direct reaction too but if not it's just 100% worth watching.
I have started to believe that Merphy is a secret masochist. Examp; she read the manga n then saw the trailer for this movie n still watch it. I truly can’t believe anyone on there right mind would, that said I need to go now Merph already started talking about it n showing clips of it , so for sake of my health I’m living before she fully traumatize me for ever.
Would you be interested on reading rurouni kenshin or immortal blade next then watch their live action movies? They're both acclaimed by fans to be the top tier live action adoptation. They're both about samurais and you cannot go wrong with Japanese making samurai movies.
There has yet to be a good anime live action movie, but with the upcoming One piece movie i have high hopes since Oda himself is keeping track of production and it has a pretty high budget. Fingers crossed!
I don't remember how far I made it into the FMA live action movie, but I don't think it was more than 10 minutes. I got to the scene where Winry got involved and they turned her into a character who just does "Tee hee!" cute poses in a skirt. That was enough for me to know I should save my time.
This was great XD Also, I will say, while it's still definitely bad, I checked out the second one for the fun of it semi-recently, and I do feel like it was a bit of an improvement on the first? (Though I haven't seen the first in quite a while, so I could be wrong there) Ed's wig is better, I think the effects are generally a bit better, they tend to follow the plot of the show a bit more (though definitely still a bit speed run-y and far from fully accurate still lol) from what I remember rather than kind of grabbing at random moments from throughout it and throwing them in there, etc. It's still by no means anywhere as good as the show, or even a movie I would qualify as good, though XD
I think this adaptation could've been good, but they didn't have a green light for the sequels, like the Rourori Kenshin adaptation had, so they had to jam a lot of a very complex story in so little time in case there was never another movie. About the weird reactions... That's every japanese movie that is anime adaptation adjacent. They try to retain the weird/funny poses even if it looks wrong on real life people. 😅
Actually, with the first Rurouni Kenshin movie they made the movie not expecting to get a sequel, which is why Aoshi for example, got shoe-horned into Kyoto Inferno to ppl who aren't fans of the franchise, instead of being in Origins. Kyoto Inferno and The Legend Ends got the greenlight like 2 years later. But it also helps that they had Donnie Yen's mentee, Kenji Tanigaki, to train the actors and choreograph the fights, so that the movies didn't just succeed as adaptations but also as just martial arts movies.
I'm loving the skits you made. and as someone who only likes fullmetal alchemist because of the character of Maes Hughes, (as in his scenes are the only parts I'll watch) I think the live action adaptation was great!
I don't know what's going on in your life, but you shouldn't hurt yourself and watch something like the live action FMA. You are a valuable and precious human being.
holy crap. I'm in awe that anyone could actually sit through that, let alone say anything remotely positive about it. I couldn't even sit through the entire trailer, it looked like such a let-down.
There’s only one good live-action adaptation of a manga series that I could think of: Rurouni Kenshin... and even then, I think only the first movie and last movie (in a quadrilogy) were any good.
Completely unrelated but I’d love to see a video from you recommending media for kids (by rough age group) - it’s really hard when you like something like FMA but aren’t sure what age is appropriate to share with a younger relative
I actaully liked the live action FMA. It was actually made by fans with little to no budget and thats pretty visible, but overall is not that bad. They kinda had to wrap up story somehow, because it was unlikely they would be able to made a sequals (which they eventually did). Later on the Netflix bought it several years later, so now ppl saw it as Netflix adaptation, but its a fan made movie, and consider their possibilities I dont think its that bad.
And thus, 4 out of 5 of Merphy's last videos are about her suffering... Going through people roasting her favorite books, talking about the books that she hate, reading people deffending the books that she hates and finally... watching this atrocity... Is she okay?
Given the movies you've watched... No wonder you aren't a massive fan of movies. I've seen the anime, not read the manga... Watched it during Lockdown 1 of 2020... One of the best things I watched that year... Thank you for making sure I never see this movie. 🤣🤣🤣
great video explaining, how not so great live action anime is! You should watch Millennium Actress,Paprika and sword of the stranger are my favorite anime and movies of all time:)
This is like the worst thing possible. I honestly don’t understand how studios don’t understand you can’t put an entire series into a movie. There’s just not enough time.
Why would you willingly torture yourself by watching live action?😭 Anyway have you considered reading "Monster" by Naoki Urasawa? It has one of the best story & villain in anime/manga, you definitely should read that at some point
i'm curious if you plan to watch Netflix's live action Avatar series. i'm skeptical of course because we've been burned in the past and we don't need live action when the anime is perfect. but i'm also getting a little excited for it and at least it's a series not a movie and hoping it will be dent. would love to see some videos on it from you whether it's good or bad
I totally agree they did suck a lot of the emotion out of scenes. I will say though I do like bad movies and I was half paying attention to it while wrapping presents and under those two conditions I enjoyed it lol.
I don't know if you heard, but they are also making a One Piece live action series on Netflix...oh boy, this will be a dumpster fire 🔥. Don't be afraid to roast this one when it cames out...
I think the Father Cornello story would make for a great first movie given the chance. Have it be the plot but when Ed and Al’s missing limbs/bodies are revealed cut to the brother’s origins to parallel Rose’s desperation to bring her partner back. This movie is basically if you summarised the wiki description of FMA and adapted it all into a 2 hour movie. Not a good idea
Watching a witty roast of a bad movie is as fun for me as watching a good movie. I love Mystery Science Theater 3000, and there are whole TH-cam channels dedicated to bad movies. If the bottom ever falls out of the book tube industry, you've got a fallback career. You have the talent. Of course, then you'll have to watch a lot of really terrible movies!
You really gotta appreciate Merphy's willingness to put herself through a *terrible* experience just to entertain us. 😂
Yeah she could’ve watch any of the animated stuff but she specifically chose the thing that would torture her the most
Intro should be Gladiator gif: Are you not entertained??!
@@PaintSplashProductions She's also watching the anime...
@@TuskyBaby Yay! A much better and fulfilling experience
She acts like a recycling machine: eats a terrible experience to give us a great experience! lol
The snark and sass coming from this review is just on point. This live action didn't even deserve how good this review was.
You have a real talent when it comes to politely explaining how terrible something is.
The Winry skit where you grab Mr. Murphys chest had me dying 🤣🤣🤣
Lol, now we know what Murphy would be like as a zombie. 🤣
Okay that Winry skit got a good laugh out of me haha
This video proves that Merphy loves her audience, for what other reason someone willingly will go through this suffering.
My brother and I watched the other two movies in this series because we also have the tradition of watching live-action movies for animes. We watched the last movie last night, and I fell asleep by the end.

Oh th car actor sems really good . Good!
Wow. You've redeemed the word snarky and given it a new wonderful meaning.
I almost cried listening to you discuss the taller than you scene. I've never seen this movie. Touching family moments just break me 😂
“We don’t have to explain things, that is not what we are doing today.” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love this passive aggressive movie discussion
It is so weird. I watched this movie. I know I did. My girlfirend tells me I did. But still I cannot recall a single scene from this movie. I cannot remember any plotpoint.

I haven’t watched this movie, but I do appreciate the attempt to make the actors look like the characters they’re playing. I’m so used to other adaptations not even trying to do that much.
yeah, and then there is winry with brown hair so they just gave up for that one character
MY GOD THAT WIG.
It haunts me
Ok I needed a break for like a day because of the horror flashbacks from the mere mention of the wig.
I hated this movie so much. They got rid of all character development, they changed things way too much, removed all the emotional context, and MY GOD THAT DAMN WIG. It's just so bad 😭 and the final showdown was just a badly butchered final act from the Manga that makes 0 sense.

You gotta make that Winry sketch into a short. It was hilarious
The director looked at the plot and said "you are not be needed here".
The whole movie is just a cosplay showcase
I commend you for somehow enduring that kind of torture and for some reason they thought why not make another live action for fma lol
This video made my day❤. The way Merphy put herself in between the scenes, I loved it😂💕
Also, love the skits sprinkled throughout! Please incorporate them into your videos as much as you can.
Now I appreciate the live action more cause without it we wouldn't get this video! Thanks Merphy!!
Stellar performance on that hug brava!
I love how you just went in knowing it's not going to be a good movie and just treated it as a comedy or anti-fullmetal alchemist metal manga/anime. Lol.

I'm impressed by your ability to talk about a movie that doesn't exist and isn't real.
*Live* action brings about *death* in adaptation. Welcome to the genre Merphy.
I fell asleep after watching one hour of it, so kudos to you for enduring the entire thing!
This is what Father was forced the watch in his portal of truth.
The Winry hug! Perfection! 😂
One might say that Merphy undulates between the good and the bad adaptation
This is great!! I love the backgrounds!
I have started to believe that Merphy is a secret masochist. Examp; she read the manga n then saw the trailer for this movie n still watch it. Nobody tell her about dragonball evolution after she inevitably ends up in the dragonball universe.
I’d be really surprised if she ever reads Dragon Ball and even more surprised if she gets very far with it
She will only get to master pedo intorduktion and rage quite. Cant blame her😂
I am so sorry for your pain, but this review was hilarious
thank you for your sacrifice for watching all these terrible live action. we salute you
I love the skit when your avoiding eye contact with the vampire that was hilarious

Love Rurouni Kenshin, gonna read the manga next month.
Mustang watches the live action
*snaps fingers furiously*
You should read the promised neverland you would really enjoy the twists turns character development and iconic moments
Just don’t watch the second season of the show because it skips everything and you would have to make one of these videos for it
@@secretperson8642 the awful season 2 made me read the manga instead.
Yea I read up to the bunker death😉 then the second season happened and I wanted to beg for death
Gadzooks! The sarcasm levels are off the charts!
😬 you're brave. I vowed never to watch live action again after seeing the dragon ball one
These skits are BRILLIANT! 🤣🤣🤣
Hopefully they will get it right one day… I’m very hopeful for the one piece adaptation but that only means that I’m expecting it to fail for 83%
Hah! I am so sorry. I remember when this came out and I turned it off after maybe 3 minutes. You're a trooper!
Mann, I so want to see Murphy reacting and reviewing your name movie 😭😖
There has yet to be a good anime live action movie, but with the upcoming One piece movie i have high hopes since Oda himself is keeping track of production and it has a pretty high budget. Fingers crossed!
Which ones have you seen? 'cos the Rurouni Kenshin movies and Inuyashiki do fit that bill.
Wait I thought one piece was to be a tv show not a movie
Stuff like this is why everyone regrets the existence of Live Actions.
The fact that u smiled while telling it is a measure of your pain hahahaha

This video is just fun and good vibes
Because One Piece is my favorite I don’t think I can physically bring myself to even check out the upcoming live action show
I actually started hyperventilating when I saw the notification for this video I repressed the live action's existence
I think this adaptation could've been good, but they didn't have a green light for the sequels, like the Rourori Kenshin adaptation had, so they had to jam a lot of a very complex story in so little time in case there was never another movie.

I think you will love Pinocchio. I mean the stop motion animation masterpiece, of course.
I'm loving the skits you made. and as someone who only likes fullmetal alchemist because of the character of Maes Hughes, (as in his scenes are the only parts I'll watch) I think the live action adaptation was great!
live action is the only thing available for me right now, so I'm gonna watch it and like it. 😭
No, please, don't. There is hope.
I don't know what's going on in your life, but you shouldn't hurt yourself and watch something like the live action FMA. You are a valuable and precious human being.

having now seen marks reaction to all the movies id really like to see merphy see live action armstrong

I actaully liked the live action FMA. It was actually made by fans with little to no budget and thats pretty visible, but overall is not that bad. They kinda had to wrap up story somehow, because it was unlikely they would be able to made a sequals (which they eventually did).

I wish the folks running the live action manga/anime adaptions would occasionally ask themselves the question… wait why?
Think you might do a video with your thoughts of the A Man Called Otto/Ove adaptation if you plan on seeing it?

I almost want you to watch the sequels so you can roast them so well like you did here😆
After Death-Note & Ghost in a shell Hollyweird adaptations, my expectations for something resembling artistic integrity are non-existent.
Welcome to the world of Japanese live-action adaptations of mangás.
I had such high hopes for this one too...oh well
great video explaining, how not so great live action anime is! You should watch Millennium Actress,Paprika and sword of the stranger are my favorite anime and movies of all time:)
You should try this exercise with Battle Angel:Alita. It's the best live action adaptation of a manga/anime by far.

Will you talk about the other anime? That goes different from the manga? I like that anime more honestly.
