It can also be difficult, especially for the psyche of the child to have a super human in his field. So many children of legends have either had tough mental problems or just given up the careers because of the unwritten pressure that comes with it. Hope Jordi did not suffer from that or was carefully taken care of.
He used it vs Lyon in the QF's and lost, because he didn't have the right players to implement that, when he came to City he used 3-2-5/3-2-4-1 inverted Fullbacks inside making a box shape with two Centre Backs & Fernandinho between,he used this 3-4-3 diamond at Barca a lot,he used at Bayern to but not that much, for this system you need 4 midfielders with immense qualities something Messi,Iniesta,Xavi, Busquets had
Messi's free role does render some additional responsibility on the midfield, especially the DMFs like Busquets or Pjanic or De Jong whoever is playing in Guardiola's role. Messi drops down to the attacking midfield or deeper to increase the numbers there and then sprays it towards the wings or those making the runs. If he puts it in the wings, he runs in and adds numbers in the opponent's half. The problem this season is there are no strikers in the absence of Suarez, which is why 3-5-2 is the closest we play well - but not with Griezemann - we need Dembele to make those runs forward - he needs to be more clinical there. If Ansu Fati and Araujo are back, we will be a far better team than what we are right now. Lenglet is a problem so is Umtiti. Pique is old so cannot track back to pacy wingers, and Dest and Alba can track back only when playing in 3-5-2
Spot on! He almost explains it better than his dad ever could! One of the the things that Johan said that isn’t covered here though is that even though they only had three at the back the defenders would all still have a turn piling forward. He said that opposition attackers either had to track them or get a bollocking from their teammates. Just messes with any team’s attacking plans.
Great clip, great insight. Would love to see a similar video of the opposing philosophy of defence and counter attack also. Like the Catenaccio tactics of various Italian teams
3 3 3 1, its ajax system, too bad ajax didnt get what city and barcelona get, the money, if they had, they will be the dominant clubs at all european beating top european club like mid clubs
In the 2000s my development club in under 13 division, the coach favoured this style. Not so much total football but he emphasized triangles in training such that every player has at least 2 players to accept a pass at all times. our back 4 was a little warped for my 10 year old mind to understand but the basis of it was there were traditional full backs that stay back, they never cross the half line. The one centre back played ahead of the others, sort of sweeper-ish. What the coach called the #4 his job was make sure the #5 who was always the last man before the keeper and the full backs #2 and #3 weren't allowed to be behind the last man ever. The #5 absolutely had to have a big mouth or a loud voice, he had to move the others with him constantly. The midfield was a flat 4. Wingers #7 and #11 were only allowed to advance forward. Central players #6 and #8 were to stay put and pick passes either to wingers or to strikers #10 and #9. Strikers were instructed to play 2 touch as much as possible, one to receive second to shoot. The coach was able to make it understood to the smarter ones who were just about to turn 13 and move on to the next division or leave the club. I was a dumb kid but now the tactics make sense although I fail to see the strict man marking working out when zonal discipline was part of the instructions. Coach was more caught up in the style over the joy of the players. It showed given the best finish those tactics got was 4th place in a league of like 8-12 teams when kids generally played for fun more than they played for actual football competition. These days the same club has new and younger coaches with more tactics who actually explain to the kids why specific things are done and they simpler but successful systems. They now win the league often compete for it if they arent winning it. A shame all that started after i finished school 🤐
Can we just appreciate how crazy and amazing that football board is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😍😍, I mean i want one and I'm not even a analyst, it's like I would really love to have one😍🔥.
You can clearly see a lot of similar roles of these players and of barca''s current squad. the 3 at the back obvious.. two forward wing players, now wingbacks being attacking (dest alba). the distributors: (busquets as central defender and cdm, then messi sometimes as cdm to start attacks/passing, also sometimes de jong). the connector to get the distributor out of pressure and continue plays between sections of the pitch (pedri). the box to box player (de jong, who is learning all of the roles essentially bc he will eventually captain barcelona as the guardiola of the team. The only thing really missing is that number 9 which imo dembele doesnt fit but haaland would slide in absolutely perfectly. can threaten the entire attacking third and can be fed from anywhere and retain possession. I personally dont think dembele fits into any spot at alll in a system like they have now. koeman will need to create alternate attacking set ups to enable/unleash the full potential of dembele. that will be his task next season.
It's really hard to say what would be the dreamed combined line up from 1988-96 especially with the arrival of Romario that changed thing, especially regarding Laudrup that could start at any position Zubizaretta Ferrer Guardiola R.Koeman Barjuan Guardiola Amor Sacristan Bakero Stoichkov Romario Begiristain
Thanks for more quality stuff. Simple yet brilliant from Cruyff with Jordi very articulate, able to explain the main concepts clearly. Would be nice for him to return to Barca and help with our rebuild.
the way Johann Cruyff wanted to play football is really amazing when Jordi Cruyff says barca has never had a pure no9 I felt like I'm good at analyzing cause when we were playing under pep we had the same tactics we never had a pure no9 until we got suarez and that is not our style of football he wanted everyone to be creative even the goal keeper that makes him unique now under koeman we have been creating chances just for fun where other teams would find it difficult but when it comes to finishing only god knows .:( this season we've lost in laliga only cause of defender(lenglet) doing a lot of errors that too in last min which is horrible thing to watch entire team keeps playing to win except lenglet(not including greizmann cause idk what to say about him no idea why we bought him) ..we keepdominating the entire match to win but when our opponent gets the ball just one attack in the end and boom we concede. we are in this situation only because of koeman he's the who made everything look harder comeon man WHO NEEDS COMEBACK against each and every team we play WHEN WE USED TO DOMINATE..comeback vs a team like granada ?? cause we've spent millions and millions in transfer market he is the reason why everything looks scuffed for barca he doing a good job even when he doesn't have luxury to rotate our squad since half of our STAR players are injured this season but still he has to win matches against small teams .....really appreciate the way de jong is playing for us he is playing in mid field supports attack when we need goals and koeman is using him as a CB aswell still he is playing like a beast his workrate is top notch
The moment when all lines get connected it shapes like the tree of life. Iv been thinking in my head a lot about football systems and formations and Just play around in my head without any knowledge and this was actually kind of the line up I came up with. Allthough in my head the 2 wingers would be more of wingbacks to have widh. And the three midfield players in front of guardiola have free roles and be very good football players with the feet and dribbles and eith their back to the goal. But then you miss out on wingers. Maybe have 2 of the three run behind as a winger or have the wingbacks pop up as wingers when opportunity arises but they would need monster stamina, speed and good crosses.
One of the rare videos that made me watch full video . I was looking on a post on insta where it said " Maradona - Great Player but a Bad Manager , Pep - Great Manager but not a very good player & then there's Zidane who was a great player & is a Great Manager". It's quite disheartening to see People not knowing what Pep was. He was the Brain of the Team , not a shiny Player but he understood the Game More than anyone . Players rn don't have the same Passion as they had back in the days especially since 2015 , afterwards the game got a bit too crap with sacking , transfers every year. Even at city he doesn't buy players who are already at Top Mostly , he see the quality & then goes for them . Sterling , Bruyne( altho he didn't buy ) , Stones , Dias , Laporte , Cancelo , Jesus , Silva & Many more were unknowns & wasn't considered the bests in their respective positions. Tactically the man never got outshined but at the end , it's the players that needs to get the job done.
Barcelona's formation isn't always the same. It's very likely that their main formation will continue to be the classic 4-3-3 but this sounds like a very nice alternative against certain teams.
I miss very much that Barcelona style, even if the didn,t won sometimes (like in 2009/10 against Inter) they were brilliant to watch. Nowadays my eyes bleeding watching actual Barca side.

My favorite video on the site.
Props to the coach but also the players for being able to execute his vision 👏
Thanks for the videos. Keep uploading more quality stuff.
Intriguing and insightful as always. Well done TCV.
It's a shame that Jordi didn't get the stylish hair of Johan
Why ? Every hairstyle is different
or the looks or the footballing talent :(
This needs to be what we need now
He almost explains it better than his dad ever could!
One of the the things that Johan said that isn’t covered here though is that even though they only had three at the back the defenders would all still have a turn piling forward.
He said that opposition attackers either had to track them or get a bollocking from their teammates. Just messes with any team’s attacking plans.
Cruyff has to be the greatest coach of all time and also the greatest influencer ever in football history
He is
Wow this is amazing 🥲. I’ve been fortunate enough to play his system on a coaching level and to see it on a pitch brings tears to my eyes.
Amazing
Kind of what Koeman applied vs Sevilla both in the league and the cup 😍😍
Even Thomas Tuchel employs a hybrid version of this formation. Superb video!
Thanks Jes!
Tuchel isn't as risky as this Barca
Incredible, learn fro the best! Vamos Comandante... cheers from Serbia, Ivan
now Koeman continue this idea
Koeman?🤣 u mean pep
Johan Cruyff is the most influential person in modern football. His legacy lives through Pep Guardiola. Now Xavi is also displaying that in Qatar.
I can relate to every player and their roles he is talking about with this current Barcelona Team.
Great clip, great insight. Would love to see a similar video of the opposing philosophy of defence and counter attack also. Like the Catenaccio tactics of various Italian teams
Is always good to compare strategies and tactics from different epoch
MASTERclass if there ever was one.
1-2-1-2-1-2-1 Cruyff formation at 8:05
3 3 3 1, its ajax system, too bad ajax didnt get what city and barcelona get, the money, if they had, they will be the dominant clubs at all european beating top european club like mid clubs
What an explanation
Amazing. Just Amazing
Welcome Jordi Cruyff as the technical secretary of FC Barcelona
Top tier channel 🙌🏽🙌🏽
More on this please, maybe from Guardiola & his philosophy
Excellent! Learned so much and I'm not a soccer player by experience.
True football brain 💯🔥 #legend #forçabarça 💙❤️
Can we just appreciate how crazy and amazing that football board is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😍😍, I mean i want one and I'm not even a analyst, it's like I would really love to have one😍🔥.
This was the video i was searching for.
I understood all of this and it was awesome, great. Now only thing left to do is show this to my teammates 🤦🏽♂️
It's really hard to say what would be the dreamed combined line up from 1988-96 especially with the arrival of Romario that changed thing, especially regarding Laudrup that could start at any position
Zubizaretta
Ferrer Guardiola R.Koeman Barjuan
Guardiola
Amor Sacristan
Bakero
Stoichkov Romario Begiristain
People who doubt jordi for the rumoured role of tech sec in new board must watch this. This guy knows his shit.
Thanks for more quality stuff.
Simple yet brilliant from Cruyff with Jordi very articulate, able to explain the main concepts clearly.
Would be nice for him to return to Barca and help with our rebuild.
who will be the next mind set in football will definitely be Sergio BUsquest.
the guy has all the quality to be a very successful coach .
the way Johann Cruyff wanted to play football is really amazing when Jordi Cruyff says barca has never had a pure no9 I felt like I'm good at analyzing cause when we were playing under pep we had the same tactics we never had a pure no9 until we got suarez and that is not our style of football he wanted everyone to be creative even the goal keeper that makes him unique now under koeman we have been creating chances just for fun where other teams would find it difficult but when it comes to finishing only god knows .:( this season we've lost in laliga only cause of defender(lenglet) doing a lot of errors that too in last min which is horrible thing to watch entire team keeps playing to win except lenglet(not including greizmann cause idk what to say about him no idea why we bought him) ..we keepdominating the entire match to win but when our opponent gets the ball just one attack in the end and boom we concede. we are in this situation only because of koeman he's the who made everything look harder comeon man WHO NEEDS COMEBACK against each and every team we play WHEN WE USED TO DOMINATE..comeback vs a team like granada ?? cause we've spent millions and millions in transfer market he is the reason why everything looks scuffed for barca he doing a good job even when he doesn't have luxury to rotate our squad since half of our STAR players are injured this season but still he has to win matches against small teams .....really appreciate the way de jong is playing for us he is playing in mid field supports attack when we need goals and koeman is using him as a CB aswell still he is playing like a beast his workrate is top notch
Excellent video
Tk u very much 💜🏴☠️👍
The moment when all lines get connected it shapes like the tree of life.
Brilliant
......and thus result in a beautiful football game for which Barca is famous
I want this in barca again
Would love to see a Jupp Heynckes 2013 Bayern masterclass.
I need that board.
Tbh Pep is a legend but as a Player Zidane >> Pep and as Manager Pep >> Zidane
2021-22 realistic lineup if messi signs new contract
.
. Fati
Dembele Trincao
. Messi
. Pedri De Jong
. Busquets
. Garcia Mingueza
. Araújo
.
. Ter Stegen
Barcelona's formation isn't always the same. It's very likely that their main formation will continue to be the classic 4-3-3 but this sounds like a very nice alternative against certain teams.
simply a genius....luckily legends never die.....❤
Nice
People look down on Johan Cryuff for not winning the most sought after Trophy.
It doesn't matter at all, cause Johan himself was the Trophy.
Wonderful
I miss very much that Barcelona style, even if the didn,t won sometimes (like in 2009/10 against Inter) they were brilliant to watch. Nowadays my eyes bleeding watching actual Barca side.
System doesn't alone win you games. You need high caliber technical players keep moving around to find triangles, it's not like opposition just sit around untill they lose the ball.
Fantastisch.
P. Jackson - Johan Cruyff Triangles / Steve Kerr - Pep Guardiola Triangle's evolution
My son im proud of u..
