  • In a review like no other, we take the new Land Rover Defender 110 on a serious shake-down, tackling some of the toughest terrain Namibia has to throw at us.
There have been grumblings from the Defender diehard that this modern iteration hasn't got what it takes to wear the Defender badge with pride, but after four gruelling days traversing sand, rocks, mud, ruts and rivers, we can safely safe we were deeply impressed with its capabilities.
This short film, edited by Harrison Hopton, is a cobbled together mash-up of anything Flat-Out writer and photographer Leon Poultney could grab on his camera, the pro shots from a videographer on the trip and clips nabbed at haste on an iPhone.
    We hope you enjoy it.

I love this vehicle, i know it's very different to the the original, it's defiantly a head turner.
I don't care what old school die hard defender say.

I'm not old school. Problem is air suspension and a suburban image. I drove a 4 door Jeep wrangler recently. The Land Rover looks effete by comparison.

Another nice review. You have a good voice and speak very smooth. But stop using a gum during filming!

Thanks for the compliment. That was guarana-infused gum in an attempt to stay awake. May have chewed too much. Ended up a little wired.

I stopped watching when I saw gum chewing while talking. Was enjoying the video until then. Awesome new Defender!

I’m curious, how did you manage to blag yourself a place amongst the big boys of motor journalism in Namibia on the most anticipated and arguably most important JLR launch ever? Was it Charm?, insider contacts? Related to the main board of directors? Fair play to you however you managed it, but an opportunity to justify your shirt on the team squandered really as evidenced by your own narrative during your intro. I’ve just seem most, if not all the other serious media contributors to this expedition and thoroughly enjoyed the content, but even as a cobbled together piece with stock footage and your non-commercial touristic approach you fell way short of presenting the New defender in all its glory, although I did enjoy the presentation as a potential off road overlander expedition participant to such an awesome destination, so thanks for that. Actually I’m very jealous of you getting to go on this jolly adventure and couldn’t have done it full justice either 👍😉

Kevin Brown thanks for the message and it’s none of the above. As a freelance writer, I was out covering this for various outlets in the UK. You’ll see stories on its tech in Stuff Magazine, a more thorough write-up of how the Defender performed on DriveTribe and numerous other review and write ups for websites. As we mentioned, this video really is an aside, as we were busy driving, photographing and taking notes throughout the trip, so it was hard to get film. Also, Flat-Out always takes a different angle, veering away from reviews and focussing on the adventure. I hope we at least achieved that. Many thanks for the views, Leon.

Flat-Out Magazine Hi Leon, thanks for taking the time to respond fully and putting the trip and its objectives for you into perspective - you certainly got across the adventure aspects for Flat-out magazine and I do respect the fact that you were alone without the benefit of an additional camera person - I look forward to seeing your style of presentation in line with the editorial style of those other outlets you mentioned. I also commented on your new Jimny review which I thoroughly enjoyed and resonated with very much too 👍

Feels like a Land Rover ad'.
We all want LOGIC. Is it any good?
Question: would you go somewhere isolated with air suspension? I wouldn't.

Pretty sure the Skelton Coast is about as isolated as you can get. No other support vehicles here. All Defenders

Stop eating chewing gum whilst presenting. It is so unprofessional! It spoilt what was otherwise a good review.

Well, this narrators teeth whitening is off the charts. Plain weird. I know he's British and feel the need to compensate for British teeth but this is an example of going too far. As far as the Defender is concerned, we shall see when the honeymoon phase of over in 5 years. Is it easy and affordable to fix? will it run at least 300,000 with just maintenance like a Toyota? I like the concept but buyer beware.
