The problem your having with your reverse gear is caused by the fact that the reverse gear doesn’t have a synchro so sometimes if ur going forward and u stop quickly and try to thro it in reverse the gears are spinning In the transmission at different speeds so it will either get stuck or grind. An easy way around this is to just push back in to neutral then gently slide back in to the reverse gate
The problem you are having with the transmission is the same I had with my VW Caddy 3, however first gear was blocked. You don't have to rebuild the transmission, however you need to tighten up some bolts. These are the bolts that connect the metal wire from the shifter to the transmission. They get loose throughout the years👍.
Might want to replace the shifter linkage and all bushings first. Should be less than 100 bucks and may even fix your reverse issue in your nineteen ninety three Honda civic del sol🤷♂️
I have a 1993 del sol si with the 1.6 vtec sohc in samba green. Its 100% stock with 150k miles. It was parked in 2005 due to the same transmission issue you have. Im currently in the process of taking the transmission out to rebuild everything. Hope your del sol project goes well!
Not trying to be mean but please stop saying “guys” so much. Rev it above 4500 RPM and it will feel/be quicker. Put an ex or si transmission in it if you’d like it to be a bit quicker since you need a new trans anyway. Read up on it ::)
im looking into getting a JDM del sol; they had tge power ‘transtop’ which they never offered in usa; also they offered automatic with 1.6 VTEC (calked SiR)
It’s doing that stuck thug trying to go into REVERSE because you gotta pull up the RING UNDERNEATH! While shifting it into R, pull up on the ring underneath attacked to the shifter+leather, you can tell it’s a straight shot up and on a cylinder. That allows you to shift it into reverse separately, so you are supposed to get stuck going into REVERSE! It’s a gear/ring lockout, bro, stop shoving it into reverse without the lockout!!
As a new driver on a budget, if the only things you hate about a dope af cheap jdm car is a cup holder and taking 10 minutes to warm up... I'm alllll in
I own 98 Civic EJ9 D14A3 and I have the same issue with the rear gear. One out of ten times it gets blocked. But after the second or third try it works. I replaced the transmission fluid MTF3 , but it didn't do any difference.
That transmission "issue" is the same on every honda. I've driven a very large amount of Hondas buy working at a Honda dealership and I can safely say that it's just a Honda thing
My son bought a 1995 Del Sol in great shape. 120 k Green/Blue color. Can't remember the engine, but it's not the slow 1.6 but not the fast one either. 5 speed, factory non A/C car. Visiting him in a few weeks, can't wait too see and drive it
That's a short ram intake not a cold air so really it's pulling in hot ambient air from under the engine bay. The problem you're having going into reverse is not a problem. I had a 2000 Civic si and it did the same exact thing. It's normal to put it into 1st. then go back to reverse to get it to go in.
I've got a '93 Del sol Si manual 1.6L Vtec, but I never drive the car fast enough to achieve Vtec speeds. I'm not sure when it's supposed to kick in. The engine, transmission, and exhaust are all stock. Some say that the Del Sol was a failure as a sports car for Honda, but I love mine. Leaky top and all.
I have a del sol 1.6 VTEC from 1996 but is the ESi model and not the VTi one(125hp instead of 169) 1st - very sad that it is not 1.6 VTEC (it really makes a difference when you want stock speed) 2nd - looks like you are using the stock tubes for the intake but are using a filter for a cold air intake; currently your setup looks like a short ram; cold air intakes will go through the hole below your filter and the tubes should be longer 3rd - it's normal for the rear gear to stuck on old cars(not happening only on del sol), because it's not like it is the most used gear in the car. However, instead of shifting gears to make it work, quickly release the gear pedal and press it again and you will see that the gear will enter position without problems; 4th- hahaha my cupholder is ripped off and I also wouldn't use it as the position is shitty 5th- i put a shortshifter in my del sol and gears are shifting a lot better although rear gear sometimes get stuck(but if you are using the trick above then no problems)
@@gainesgaming5594 I wonder if some company could make it custom order. But never heard of such a thing. Best bet is another del sol but they often have the same.
I bought a brand new Honda Civic Del Sol in 1993 and have owned and driven it daily since, 216,000 miles on it now. I got a 93 too but I got the si. It has 233,000 miles but it’s still Pretty quick. And the cup holders are useful if u got a automatic. Still have to turn 240 degrees to grab ur drink but I don’t mind
If you buy a model with the weakest engine, you really can not complain about the speed. The warming up and the gears have been explained to you 20-30 times in the comments, and the hard top has been used not so carefully by previous owners - so the only thing you actually can complain about is the cup holders - being put where they are, stock. But even with the cupholders - as you say, where should they have put them otherwise? There’s no room for them elsewhere. So that makes zero things to complain about 👌🏻 Last thing: Please keep it stock (ffs!).

The fastest way to warm up your 1993 Honda Civic del sol is by driving it. Not letting it sit at idle for 15 minutes.

The thing I hate about my delsol is getting in and out. You fall in, and have to climb out haha
Omg facts my back and ass omg im six feet its literally a long fall ending with a ass slam
That’s just low car status. I lowered my civic and now it’s like that.
It's worth it haha
I use my door latch for leverage🤗
The way forward is to swivel your butt allowing both legs to be out of the car, lift yourself out using leg and arm muscles. This works a treat.
The transmission does not have a problem. You have to put 1st gear and then reverse every time you reverse.
Thats a fact right there
Yup. Ever since i started doing that haven’t had an issue

Things to hate... parts are hard to find because the 93 is different compared to the rest of the years.
Flushing fluids like you said will probably help a lot! I would bet it hasn't been flushed in a while!
In my opinion it’s the reverse block so you can’t go from fifth to reverse directly causing transmission damage, I own a 1993 Honda Civic Del Sol vtec

I'm also looking at a 1995 del Sol. So far it looks great.
Great cars the only reason I would say no is people ruin or wreck their first car and this increasingly rare car deserves better them that
If it’s taking 15 minutes to warm up you have a bad thermostat. Replace it - extremely cheap part.
