      Such a comment was far beneath the level of respect many musicians, composers, singers, and producers have for her and her body of work over the decades. I know she’s a music legend and deservedly so, but to expect those people to know who she is in the moment and to accommodate a drop in without any advanced notice after decades of absence is a little much.

      @@BobbyS-s3v At the core of how she was treated is the historics of sexism. Many men who have had a career as influential as hers, would have been recognized and treated as the legend that they were.

      @mike sixx If they came up with the hook that made the music a hit, maybe it should be considered. On another note, artists that create hits with loops of these great talents receive all the royalties. It's basically editing. It's the way the system works, but in what universe is that fair?

    • @womblissimo6666
      @womblissimo6666 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Firstly - if she's a studio musician - that is what she's paid for - that is the job. Secondly - Carol Kaye has stated on interview that they were making more money than the president .. now that may be an analogy - but it certainly does not sound like she feels like they were being hard done by ..
      And I cannot see - without any other info to the contrary - they were being "exploited" .. by her own admission - they were making more money in a day than they'd make in a week on the road ..
      If I design a game and contract someone to do the art - and the game is successful - the artists who delivered on their contracts should not now feel that they are entitled to a part of the profits of the game ..
      I'm not saying that each and every one of "the wrecking crew" did not significantly enhance or in some cases define the sounds or songs of the people they "supported" - but that was the job and they did it gladly and to say that they were "exploited" seems somewhat ridiculous to me.
      Certain members of "The wrecking Crew" - most notably Glen Campbell and Elvis Costello went on to have very successful solo careers. Carol - by her own admission - was tired of the music they were making and went off to do other things ..

      As is clear from her statements in the video, Carol Kaye actually was not a big fan of the pop rock styles at the time. She was a jazz musician and she liked playing jazz, but you weren't going to make platinum top 40 records in 1969 cutting bebop records. As the rock scene changed, she also had a hard time getting regular work as more artists stopped using session musicians and preferred to play the instruments themselves. She started working on soundtracks and she enjoyed doing that.

      The ironic thing this is that nobody needs a record company or recording studio anymore. Andthey’re almost all out of business because you can do at your own place right here on songs put it on TH-cam and be self-sufficient. So some people snub the technology but it’s done wonders for the singer songwriter. I used to pay $50-100 an hour at little local studios to lay down a song ( or parts of one) in a few hours. Now I can do 16 to infinite tracks at home on my own time - and fix them , retrace them digitally etc and without the heavy expensive and hard to program analog gear like in the old days . I do miss analog sound and process sometimes but the tools are so amazing - even with auto tune and chat gpt - they are tools to aid us - and then we correct and add our stamp and thoughts to it.

      No, you just wrote words. ‘Loss for words’ means you don’t know what to say. Imagine being at the front desk of an active recording studio and some random person who claims to have worked there thirty years or more ago walks in during a session and expects it’s a good time to wander around looking at stuff. That’s called ‘poor planning’ on her part, accented by some pointless arrogance about ‘who she is’, and she’s one of dozens of guns-for-hire who worked behind the scenes. The secretaries don’t need to recognize everybody who ever did that.

      Most humans forget a lot. Same as kids don't even respect their parents who fed them. Without our mothers' help we'd all be dead. Same as Isaac Newton would go into a garage and wanna do a documentary if he was still alive, and he would be snubbed. Without Newton, we would be in the stone age still.

      @@jamescarter3196 --- She is one of the most prolific recorded bass guitarists in rock and pop music, playing on an estimated 10,000 recordings in a career spanning over 50 years. --- Never hurts to be nice to older people and perhaps she should have called ahead but you think they could use that smartphone and do a quick search to see who they are kicking to the curb.

    My son picked up the bass at 14, in 2013, I played all Carol Kaye bass line music for him asked him what he thought of the bass lines, he said they were iconic. Carol Kaye is his favorite bass player and McCartney! Lo, is now the bass player for Favor ( Sounds From The Sand, an Austin TX band) and still considers Ms Kaye the best EVER! Ms Kye you sent out ripples in the music world that are still being felt throughout the world! Bless you!

      I'm technically a "millennial", but I definitely love the music and culture of the 60's and early 70's... However this thread is showing me for the gazillionth time something must have gone terribly wrong because most babyboomers ended up being frustrated self-entitled "can I speak to your manager"-type old sour tarts.
      Yes, she probably made a lot of money for that studio decades ago, but she also always had an easily replaceable role and a LOT of people that were/are a LOT more important made/make that studio a lot of money as well. There is no excuse for waddling in unannounced with a passive-aggressive entitled attitude expecting everybody to instantly drop everything for her. Respect is earned and she surely didn't earn any respect with that attitude
