The 86 is the best slipjoint I’ve ever handled. Now I know how behind I am in collecting them. Great collection brother!

Just ordered the Black Jack. There’s one left at The Knife Connection.

Knife Therapy yeah me too. After I looked and saw the price on EBay I said to myself “guess I won’t be getting that one”. Found it on Knife Connection for $155, so I’m pretty happy about that.

Beautiful collection. Do you use your knives or collect unused?

I just got my first GEC--the 86 with tortoiseshell handles. It feels solid and tight, but a bit heavier than I expected. I often use my knives for some food preparation. What do you suggest for blade care for the 1095 steel?

I just got a #86 - the Oily Creek Bone version - and I'm not sure whether I'll keep it. The main blade action is very ragged (it grates - not something I've found on a GEC before), one handle scale is much thinner than the other, and there's not much 'oily' on the 'creek' (so to speak) - it's mainly white bone. Also (and this isn't a criticism) it's a surprisingly big old lump of a knife, stretching the limit of what's comfortable in a pocket (very comfortable in the hand though).
Your video has been very informative about the other versions thank you. Although my supplier has no more of the Oily Creek Bone to exchange it for, he's got some of the others. Having listened to what you've said, perhaps the Sucker Rod Wood is the way to go?

David S I am surprised to hear that. Out of the wide variety of great eastern cutlery knives and in multiple patterns I’ve handled the 86 has been the most consistent and quality. I would suggest this late in the game since most of the unique handle material pieces in the 86 have already been picked up and you won’t easily be able to hand select one you probably would like. Going with the sucker rod wood, Micarta or one like the tortoise shell acrylic as a handle maybe a better option for you. Good luck to you tho 🙏

I really enjoy my oily creek bone! Got a second coming from blade forums sometime that is almost all white! Im stoked for that one since so many are really dark the whiter ones seem to me to be a little more rare so to speak. Really wish I knew about the stabilized white bone!

I bought two Oily Creek bone #86s and two Oily Creek #93s. I pop my lighter knives with Feiblings black leather dye. I take a Q-tip to apply the dye. Black dye turns bone to light brown - brown - dark chocolate - to black. Using these knives will lighten the brown. I love to pop my knives with dye in the garage , not in the house. Use a rag to open the bottle. I have one arm and it is a fun challenge to me. I use Navy Blue Feiblings leather dye. 4oz bottle last forever (EVIL-bay) about $10 shipped with tax included

Ethan Walker haha yea sorry about. I would love to do a video on the stag 86. However it probably wouldn’t be out before yours arrived, but I’ll throw it in the lineup. Thanks for taking the time to drop a comment 👊
