      My first freehand attempt this week at a bunch of SUNFLOWERS turned out to be more like DAHLIAS . Then at my second attempt, I managed a giant sunflower, so cute that I want to talk to her. Blob a long, Weed.....for those of us old enough to be raised on Bill and Ben, the Flower Pot Men. The distinctive thing about a SUNFLOWER is that the centre is massive and out of all proportion to the flower head. I'm still not managing to do a Turkish Rug Stitch flower. Yet. Thanks for the inspiration.

This is the first of your videos where I have seen you use a colored (hand painted?) background. I really want to paint some of my cottons, linens and /or canvases to embroider on. Is there a video on this? or any chance you might do one? If not, any recommendations for me to learn this? Thanks again for all you do here.

    Hello Sarah, I’m new to your channel and I’m learning so much. Thank you. I’m learning that you do things for a reason. Can you please tell me the purpose of starting your projects with the knotted end of your thread on the top side of your work? If you have the time, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Thank you and have a good day!😃

    • @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery
      @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      See my video on starting and finishing your threads for a full explanation Cindy!

    • @lifeofjoy9404
      @lifeofjoy9404 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sarah's "Waste Not" knot method is a very handy way to keep the back side of your embroidery tidy, and the two tiny starting stiches eventually get "locked" in place underneath your other stitching. This way yku don't have to contantly turn your embroidery hoop over to knot threads on the back, and it eliminates the bulk & mess of knotting on the back side.
      You'll get used it it and appreciate it; I sure did! Watch all of her Beginner videos and you'll learn all kinds of tricks to make it an enjoyable hobby! I did!🤓💪

    • @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery

      I did paint this one Jan yes, I used watercolour paint. I wetted the fabic, dropped green paint into it and brushed some leaf shapes on in a dark green then left it to dry. Easy peasy! Oh, and the fabric I used was just a calico cotton...

    • @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery

      You can put them down that way D, but they would need securing in between each bead. Check out our seed bead video to see this technuique!

    Sarah and Jonathon, thank you for fulfilling my order so quickly, it arrived today.
    Sarah, when doing the picot petal sunflower, can you strand the thread from one completed petal to start the next one and how would you go about adding more than one colour to each petal? But if anyone else knows, I'd appreciate the help. Thank you.
    Our cats hope yours are well and chasing leaves. (It makes a change from shrews here).

    • @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery
      @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I suggest finishing one petal off and starting the next one with a new thread Carole. That way if it should go wrong for any reasons you don't have to take out a good petal! You can change colours but it's a bit awkward: you would need to thread a new colour in from the back somehow. You might need to do some experimenting to make this work!
      (Our cats are fast asleep next to the radiators!)
