  • Day trip on an island full of cannibals and snakes.
Amedee the snake Island is not for the faint-hearted, and it is located right outside New Caledonia.
New Caledonia has the largest lagoon in the world and one of the three largest Barrier Reef systems.
I loved this experience and the snorkeling was as amazing as they come.

I think you’re over reacting, I was there today and it was the best experience I’ve ever had. The snakes are harmless ass there mouths are to small to bite you.

If you see the video, I’m saying it’s one of the coolest places I’ve been. They can actually bite you and kill you though. But they are not aggressive snakes.
But all in all I loved the island.

That's pretty accurate, they won't bother you if you don't bother them. Still a lot of myths about them that I have covered in the video 😅

Good video, I am going to quibble with the detail though.
A large number of Hydrophiinae sea snakes can't bite you, it is not that your skin is too thick, it is that they are not able to open their jaw that wide, and their fangs are situated too far back in their jaw. Hence the 'can only bite you in the finger webbing' story. So, for example, the indo/pacific olive sea snake, Aipysurus sp. is venomous, but (in addition to being non-aggressive) cannot open it's jaw to bite us. I saw one while snorkelling in Baie des Citrons, so NC defs has them.
The sea kraits are Laticaudinae, more 'primitive' and able to fully open their jaw, as well as being amphibious. No, you should not touch them; it stresses them out and we should not tease, harass or chase wild animals going about their business in peace.
Just got back from NC and Amedee a week ago. Wonderful, wonderful place. I hope to get back to it. The sea kraits were amazingly cute.

Sea snakes are very common throughout the Pacific from Fiji to the Philippines. It is not uncommon to see them on land. As with all wildlife on land and in the sea...leave it alone and there is no danger.
