Tender is the Flesh is not one I expected to see on your TBR. Can't wait to hear what you think about Drood. I've enjoyed the two Dan Simmons books I've read so far and plan to get to that one someday.
lol. Interestingly, a lot of people were surprised to see Tender is the Flesh. Not my usual fare (no pun intended) but I do like dystopians, so we'll see.
The opera trip sounds like a blast! I really enjoyed Tender is the Flesh…however, it’s definitely not for everyone…so I’ll be curious to hear your thoughts.
I can't wait! Since becoming empty nesters we're so cultured. 😂 Tonight is Les Mis! I will definitely be running to extremes between Tender is the Flesh and Opera!
Jennifer Government! I remember when it was published, there was a free online text based game where you were given bizarre scenarios and you had to pick a response. Your responses would be taken to the extreme and would decide how your state would develop. So you might log in and find that the choice you made a couple of days ago has turned you into a dictatorship, or you have a military coup on your hands. It was hilarious. I remember the game better than the book. 😆
I'll agree that Dickens is not a quick read, so I hope you can get through Our Mutual Friend in time to read Drood. I read OMF in March and it was okay but not my favorite Dickens.
@@LaurieInTexas No our mutual friend is not a quick and easy read. Taking a break from him right now but I have Drood on my TBR list. I need to admire Dickens from afar right now. ❤️😳😂
Always look forward to your posts...appears you have quite the POP list for October. I have mine already to go, I have all of these books but didn't have a clever way to chose them. But here goes if anyone is interested. My longest read is a book I've have for years now and I'm going to read it throughout October 1006 pages or 69 chapters (I need to read 3 chapters a day. 1. Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke (paper) 2. Varney the Vampire or the Feast of Blood by Thomas Peckett Prest (Kindle) 550 pages 3. Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill (Hard ) 376 pages 4. Hannibal by Thomas Harris (Hard) 564 pages 5. Hannibal Rising by Thomas Harris (Hard) 336 pages 6. The Shining by Stephen King (Hard) 497 pages 7. Everything's Eventual by Stephen King (Hard) 605 pages 8. Anansi's Boys by Neil Gaiman (Kindle) 387 pages 9. Don't Panic by Neil Gaiman (Kindle) 605 pages Happy Reading everyone.
Great TBR! Let me know what you think about Varney! I'm sooo curious about that one. Good luck with your long read, sounds like you have a good strategy.
It is! I'm really enjoying the exploration. Are you on discord? I have a channel there where I list my favorite of the week and others sometimes chime in too.
Looks like you can pretty much count these reads for Victober! I heard that Trilby was the inspiration for The Phantom of the Opera and that it's terrible. 😂 Happy reading and I look forward to your thoughts on the books.
Is it weird to say I'm expecting Trilby to not be great? It was a lot of hype on the back and I've never heard of it before. Then again, I had never heard of Basil...
I was just having a horrible thought. Nicole is doing so much work prepping to read Drood. What if she hates it?! (I haven't read the book myself but it would be just my luck that should I have been trying the same thing, that would have been my result.) 😂
Don't worry, I've read the first 200pages before adding these two books on to the list and was happy so far. I figure that the worst case scenario is I don't like it but it's motivated me to read two other good books. That said, a few other people have commented (over the months!) that they've read Drood and have really liked it, so I'm encouraged.
Me too!! That's definitely going to be the focus. If all I get to is Our Mutual Friend, my buddy read, and Drood I wont complain. (Remind me of that at the start of November).
I am glad you got some Victorian books on there. 😊
Me too. I have a lot so the chances were pretty good.
Looks like an exciting month ahead. I hope your reads go well.
Thanks and same to you!
Ha!! Our mutual friend!! ❤❤😂😂😂
As the great Tim Gunn once said "Make it work!"
I’m reading Lady Audley in October too! I’m reading it for a course and it fits so well into Victober.
Perfect! Now I just need to see if I can find it!
A year of wonder is gorgeous. Really enjoyed my year reading and discovering new music. Happy reading Nicole! ♥️
Thanks! I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I've learned so much about my own personal taste in music because of it. Happy reading to you as well!
So many great books on the list Nicole. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!

Tender is the Flesh is awesome, completely blew my mind 🤯
Lady Audrey’s Secret is a fab book too!!
I am hoping to have the same experience with Tender is the Flesh. If I can get through the body horror I think it'll be worth it.
You can do it! 😃
Thanks!
Lady Audley's Secret is so much fun! Looks like a great TBR list (apart from Trilby, I'd say keep your expectations pretty low for that one... 😅)
oh know!! You're the second one to say something about Trilby. Both have been to not expect much. Maybe it'll get so bad it'll be good?

Love your new microphone Nicole!!! You are incredible 🩸💝💝
Thanks!! hope you're well.
@@noteworthyfiction I’m fine but I have a lot of work 😭 like a lot , also I’m doing my thesis and I rescued a chihuahua and she had babies
@@Nanipaji omg! That is alot! You'll get through it all. Just hang in there.
Can't wait to hear what you think of Tender is the Flesh! Surprised to see it on your TBR :D
I love dystopians, but we'll see if I can handle it!
Every time you mention Drood, I get the songs from the musical stuck in my head for the day. LOL.
That's funny!
I love how much though you put into your tbr games! Keeping it fun and stressful at the same time! Lol balance!
lol. Oh it's going to hit next level in November as I'm starting to realize there's virtual no way to figure out what box my books are in!

Wow! I may have to hunt that down and play it while I read. Thanks for letting me know!
@@noteworthyfiction You're welcome! I hope it's still around, it was just a browser game.
I’ve watched the PBS adaptation of Our Mutual Friend that came out in the late 1998. It was so wonderful!
Good to know! I did look it up in editing and saw that adaptation.
I'll agree that Dickens is not a quick read, so I hope you can get through Our Mutual Friend in time to read Drood. I read OMF in March and it was okay but not my favorite Dickens.
Good to know. I'm almost done with Bleak House but between it just being slower to read and moving it's taking some time!

Forgot to add the Year of Wonder by Clemency Burton-Hill, it's like a apple a day.
