Preist MIGHT have been starting to go this route in 74. Maiden wasn't even "born" yet. This is psycho, proto everything. Sweet were waaaay more than Blockbuster and Little Willy. The musicianship in this band was off the chart.
I truly believe if Brian Connolly could have gotten himself sober (or at least control his drinking) - Sweet would have been a powerhouse throughout the 1980's! Was there any band more perfectly suited for 1980's Glam/Hair metal than Sweet?
@@billsager5634 I don't think you can blame it all on Brian, tbh. The attack (or 'hit' on him as Steve calls it in his biography) must have had an effect on him surely, I think he probably had PTSD, as well as always seeming to be the one on the outside of the guys and Andy's thinly disguised contempt for him must have made things difficult at times. I think that's mainly why he left the band. The problem is always when a band loses such an outstanding and loved frontman, how to carry on? The Stones have survived losing two guitars and a drummer now, but would they have survived losing Mick? Probably not.

One of the best things bout growin' up in the far north of MN in the '60s and '70s was all we had was the radio, vinyl or casettes we didn't know glam rock from hard rock from... it was ALL ROCK! We got the music not the silly costumes, and Sweet kicked ass right up there with the best! RIP Steve Priest and thank you boys for some really kick-ass songs!
Mick looked like he was really enjoying the moment during their Musicladen appearance. The other performances that they did on this show especially on the song " No you don't " he was smiling as well. He really looked like he was having fun up there performing and the joy was evident. As far as I'm concerned they all really shined in this appearance. THEY threw down & shed the notion & image that they were merely a bubble gum pop band who were Chinn & Chapman puppets.
@@Blind_Brother Ну это вы зря.

I say this as a compliment that Sweet was Spinal Tap. It was pure authentic rock that was fun, surprisingly sophisticated at times, pompous at times but still in a fun way, over the top and at the end of the day out of this world

Very underrated one of the best bands of all time absolutely ahead of their time am so grateful for their music and the shear joy they played with Rip Brian, Mick, and Steve. Rock on Andy😊
There's a few connections: Andy Scott got his red Gibson ES-335 because of Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Gillan was in a band with (Sweet drummer) Mick Tucker, and Ritchie Blackmore joined Sweet for their encore at a gig in 1976.
Brian sounds exactly like Cheap Trick's Robin Zander on the chorus, well we all know now who Zander was influenced by, Brian Connolly was an Incredible Vocalist...
Thank you. It’s refreshing to finally see someone make the proper connection (when it comes to ‘who influenced who’). All these wankers who keep making comparisons to 10th rate garbage like Poison and Muttley Crue just don’t get it. I hear MUCH more inspiration in those first 3 Cheap Trick albums than I do in any of those 80’s poodlehead bands. Obviously Trick were most heavily influenced by The Move and the Beatles, but in Mr. Zander’s case, I definitely hear more Brian Connolly than anything else.
@@Brewzerr Cheap Trick drummer Bun E. Carlos remembered that Sweet opened for Cheap Trick in 1979. "On most nights we went side stage and watched them,. They were rockin' live, and Mick Tucker was fun to watch. His style reminded me of an early Keith Moon. Mick was one of the few double bass drummers that didn't let the second bass drum get in the way of a swinging tune like 'Ballroom Blitz.' He had a great feel on double bass, played them effortlessly... And those guys knew how to have fun," Carlos said. "We'd call them back on stage during our encores and jam on 'Let It Rock.' Mick would play my kit with the 26" bass drum and just rock out with us. I'd hop up on the riser with him, playing guitar and watching him play. We had some great times together."

1974, I was a 12 yr old Aussie born girl of Greek immigrant parents, and grew up on the music of the greatest Greek singers and Dean Martin, Tom Jones, Doris Day, Shirley Bassey. Then, SWEET came along with Fox On The Run, Ballroom Blitz, and Action. Now I'm 61 yrs old and this retired University Librarian wench, still LOVES to crank up music by the legendary SWEET, such an underrated band, with four extremely talented guys, which were sadly beset by bad luck. Mick Tucker is the GREATEST and hottest drummer ever, next to Queen's Roger Taylor. And the unforgettable Queen and Thin Lizzy were my other faves. The voices of the 3 late, greats Brian Connolly, Freddie Mercury and Phil Lynott, were AMAZING. I'm so grateful I grew up with the very BEST music from the 70's and 80's; with Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Rolling Stones. As for women, no one could surpass the phenomenal, Linda Ronstadt, Gloria Gaynor, Donna Summer, Stevie Nicks, Tina Turner and many more.
Sweet were at their best when they could get away with not sticking to the rules and playing the way only they could and that is very clear in this clip. The writing on the back of their costumes say's it all, it's like a big two finger's from the band saying we are going to do things are way. Such a talented band that never reached the height's that we all knew they could.

All I ever heard from Sweet when I was young was the usual Ballroom Blitz. I had no idea they played like this. Really an eye opener to their true talent. Fantastic.
Ballroom Blitz is the best song of the 70s,-- the unique Sweet's style , hard rock of Sweet sounds ordinary like other similar bands.
Go, Chris. Obviously You are real rock and roll boy
@Chris Blythe
Give a listen to some of they're harder stuff like "Set Me Free" off of D.B.
@@hgpiiihgp Set me Free was on the album Sweet Fanny Adams. Desolation Boulevard U.S. version is a compilation off the both European versions.

Such good musicians. Nothing coming up to replace these true stars and icons. So so sad that Brian, Steve and Mick are gone.
Rest in peace all♥️♥️♥️
Preist MIGHT have been starting to go this route in 74.
@@billsager5634 I agree!

A hard rocking tune so far ahead of its time. Love it!
Badass song!! Crazy solo for Andy and Steve it's just amazing!!
Got to love it! As good as Brian is, almost wish they had just let them play!
I love Steve and Andy interacting with their instruments, along Mick with a smile and Brian with his amazing voice, man these guys are Gods....
As a teenager Sweet were Gods to me and I worshipped the church of Sweet!!! 🎸🙏❤💋😎

It was pure authentic rock that was fun, surprisingly sophisticated at times, pompous at times but still in a fun way, over the top and at the end of the day out of this world
Oh wow it's back, one of my most favourite Sweet vids. I love watching the boys play about, Andy and Steve having such good fun! Wish they'd remained close :(

This is a great clip; clear and sharp. Musically it reminds me that there's a historical connection between Sweet and Deep Purple.
@@ianbagley172 It was the other way around, Cheap Trick opened then Sweet and headliner Bob Seeger and the Silver bullet band.

I think by all accounts they partied to much
