When you rebuild, consider concrete slab for roof. It will most likely require concrete columns to support it. You can also use more & better steel trusses. Highly don't recommend using cheap corrugated sheet metal as roofing (for obvious reasons). The aluminum ceiling joists you used to hang your gypsum board ceiling is okay. Repairing the damaged ceiling areas shouldn't be too bad. Main thing is to build your walls and roof as solid as they can be. Glad that you are all safe and still able to blog. Remember it is important to keep your strength and positivity. I can relay to your situation because I suffered the same fate during typhoon Glenda- i lost my entre house.Almost no water and electricity for more than a month. Lastly, I hope you guys stay safe, healthy and dont forget this too shall pass. God bless you more.
I’m a builder. There are special straps used to secure walls to the roof. They’re difficult to install without proper pneumatic tool, but while living in “typhoon alley, “ they’re essential.
Roofs are not normally framed with that lightweight aluminum either correct? I know that things are tuff there economically. But isnt it more effecient to just build a proper roof in the 1st place espexially when you live in an area thats susceptible to wind storms?
So sorry to see this. I have been through many hurricanes in Jamaica. I know exactly how this feels. My prayersand positive energy are with you and your family.
When you reconstruct, try to use steel truss and find anchors at the posts and concrete hollow blocks. Make sure also to cover all eaves so air suction is minimal.
I noticed at 14:58 that the truss was not properly designed. Wooden truss with the top chord and bottom chord dimensions of 1 1/2"x3" was not enough to withstand the wind forces. If it was steel truss the roof could have had survived. I suggest when planning to build your dream home contact first a civil engineer or a structural engineer.
I totally agreed with you, I really can't imagine how can someone just build the roof without the proper designed. It must follow the building code and not build according to our wish. She should use wooden rafters with 2 x 6 and not using the C aluminium frame as it cannot withstand the typhoon in Philippines . She should watch more on building code on youtune before repairing her home again.
I was waiting and watching for you my Dear Meljean…oh my goodness 😢😢😢 so sorry, you worked so hard…heart and soul into everything. At least you’re safe, the rebuild will follow soon. So very sad. I was video calling my girlfriend when she lost her home in Cebu, it was shocking and traumatic, I felt so helpless. Thankfully nobody was hurt and we can rebuild. Stay strong and you will get through this x
As a sympathy for you and the rest of the Cebuanos, I will watch this video without skipping the ads. We were victims of Yolanda too years ago here in Leyte! Hope all of you are ok and will recover from losses.
Just come across your channel. Have friends who come from Cebu. Heart wrenching to watch the devastation. The main thing is you and the family were all safe. Material things can be replaced. Sadly lives cannot. Stay safe ❤️ 🙏
There are many lessons in this situation. You need to improve the quality of materials when a repair is done. Crying will not change here. However, this is a great learning experience. This is part of the law of life. I noticed the quality of materials is not at par. Wipe your tears, be strong! Get on with life. You are alive, so is your family! The most important thing. There are others who suffered worst! Lost the entire family members.💪💪
It totally amazes me how such destruction can happen yet all Filipinos still smile. Sorry to hear about what's happened to all those effected especially days before Christmas 😪
That is so adorable watching the little one helping to get the water out. Sorry everyone went through that but when family works together it can be done in time. Prayers to all of you.
You´re so strong Meljean! I am so sorry:( But hopefully in a few weeks this will just be remembered as a bad nightmare and your house will become safer and stronger when you will fix it. In the Bicol Region after last year's Typhoon Rolly devastation, many folks have stopped having sheets for roofing and are converting their homes to concrete slabs instead. MJ have you decided the same? Also, remember to duct tape the corners of your entire windows and below your doors before the typhoon arrives next time in order to stop water from entering your home!

You have to look at the positives: Everyone is ok. Half of the roof remains after a category 4 typhoon. Yes, it may appear as a total loss, but it is not. Think about priorities. 1 Repair the roof first because it prevents more damage. 2. remove all of the gypsum walls that were wet. You have to prevent mold growth. 3. with the gypsum removed, the roof can be strap secured to the foundation with the goal of having the roof ready for a category 5. 4. Once the interior is dry, replace the gypsum walls and ceilings. All wet gypsum has to be removed and replaced(floor level probably up about a foot. If it is dry and remained dry, then leave it in place. Long term(1 year), add a small hollow block structure to the property with a roof tied in with steel trusses. Then you will have a disaster shelter for if and when this happens again. This will get better, this is just the first test.
I feel your pain and I am so sorry for the thousands worth of damaged properties and belongings. But there is still something to thank God for - you and your family are all safe. Be strong and have faith. God will strengthen, lead and show you how to rebuild.

Sorry for the bad situation you're experiencing! But more importantly glad to see everyone in your home came out safe! Thoughts and prayers to you and your family!
The great thing is everyone survived this calamity. However, you need to remove everything that is wet from your home: otherwise, black mold will set in very soon. Also, when you rebuild, please use hurricane straps (they are cheap to install) to lash the roof to the framing of your home. That should be a requirement of every home built in the Phils. Good luck to your and yours.

Yes more purlins at an acceptable width, The heaviest roofing iron, Cyclone (Typhoon) resistant screws to hold the roof down. Cyclone, (Typhoon) bracing from the buttons to the truss frames. Cyclone (Typhoon) bracing from the truss frame to the top wall plate and to the studs or posts.
Glad everyone is healthy after such a storm. To put a positive spin on the house: The glass in the windows is still good. The frig will be fine, the walls and floor are structurally sound. The roof has to be replaced but, all in all, I think your home did really well in such a big storm. Your car is ok, as is your carport. God Bless You and your family.
Everybody is safe, that’s what matters.. Clean up, help your neighbors clean up and rebuild and this time better structurally sound to withstand a typhoon. The roof seemed like the weak spot of the home but the rest of the home was fine, that flimsy metal roof doesn’t cut it, you get a little bit of wind underneath and that’s it.. God bless you!

I just saw another TH-cam vid that praised your excellent character so I thought I'd check out you vid. I don't know what part of Cebu you are in but you are somewhere near where I am. I'm an American who moved from Calif. USA to Talisay in 2010 and found my wonderful wife here just recently. We were fortunate in the storm, just one broken window that was sheltered by the carport a little water got in. From what I saw in the other video you are just one more example of why I love the Philippines and the Filipino people so much. The other vid showed you as an example of the Prov. 31 woman. Yes, women of my own kind are just not anything desirable at all. I am so glad I married a Filipina.
So sad that the weather destroyed your home! When rebuilding please consider the storm as the new normal with climate change. You will need a new roof design to keep you and your home safe in the years to come. The cheapest way to keep the roof from blowing away is to use steel cables in a grid like a 1-foot square fishing net. The steel cables will need to be attached to the ground with concrete anchors about 3 feet deep into the ground with 1 foot diameter concrete tubes.. All my prayers and best wishes to you. thank you for all your hard work showing and sharing this tragedy!
Am so glad you & your family members are safe. I know you feel sad coz of all the hard work you put in to build your own home, & just to lose it in a blink of an eye. My prayers are with you and know that we all love you & will help you any way we can to rebuild your life as well as your home. Stay strong & God Bless 🙌 🙏 ❤
Meljean, we will help you rebuild back stronger. These kinds of homes usually don’t fare well in hurricanes/ typhoons. Let them do a better job on the roof structure even if it costs a little more, don’t settle

Can I hire you to build my philippine house?
Great learning for me in house construction the.future to stand in the midst of strong storms now a days! Thankss
Roofs are not normally framed with that lightweight aluminum either correct? I know that things are tuff there economically. But isnt it more effecient to just build a proper roof in the 1st place espexially when you live in an area thats susceptible to wind storms?
Are they able to insure new or recent construction there?

When you reconstruct, try to use steel truss and find anchors at the posts and concrete hollow blocks. Make sure also to cover all eaves so air suction is minimal.
roof need a steeper angle . it was too flat. if possible make a concrete slab roof. no wind can remove it
@@lenfordsoocka5268 yes, roof needs to be really strong to withstand that kind of force

@@RiskTaker32 it really has flaws.
@@RiskTaker32 yuhhhp...! 168mph i can guarantee it will have all kind of flaws😊 result...will be flown....!
And there was no installation
I totally agreed with you, I really can't imagine how can someone just build the roof without the proper designed. It must follow the building code and not build according to our wish.
She should use wooden rafters with 2 x 6 and not using the C aluminium frame as it cannot withstand the typhoon in Philippines . She should watch more on building code on youtune before repairing her home again.

So sorry. That storm was really terrifying. I am glad you are alive and your family is safe.
