To summarize what I was saying in this video since it's kind of scattered I was essentially getting at the idea that this is how the jutsu works it's not a plot hole the mechanics of it just are this way. The best you can say about it is the mechanics are confusing not that it's a plothole.
Is that ever stated in the series or just in a guide? Because I vaguely remember Kakashi saying that Obito had to consciously phase his body into the Kamui. So the guide would contradict the in-series statement of how it works, which makes it fair for most people to think of it as a plot hole

Like say Obito is phasing and heading towards the opponent if he throws his arm fully intending for it to land as a punch Kamui would make his arm phase as well it's basically not up to him.
Basically what he's saying is that when Obito is attacked, his entire body becomes intangible. Which is why he can't attack back at the same time. So when we have someone (like Kakashi) in his Kamui dimension. Wherever Obito gets attacked, it should be his full body becoming visible in Kamui, not just fragments. So Kamui is either: His full body becomes intangible when he gets attacked. Making his full body visible in the Kamui dimension (making him unable to attack back). Or Only parts of him become intangible. Which shows only parts of him to be visible in the Kamui dimension (meaning he should be able to attack back). But it can't be (or shouldn't be) a mix of both.
His whole body probably just goes intangible and the part being hit is what’s shown in the entire realm. Or whenever Obito is intangible, Making physical contact cancels out his kamui

Obito's whole body for most of the series becomes intangible against his will as stated when he first uses it, kakashi explains that when something phases through him the part of his body overlapping with something (the kunai kakashi threw or obito's stomach for example) becomes tangible but only in the kamui dimension, which is how the kunai broke his mask and kakashi punched him in the stomach. This doesn't make the rest of his body tangible it just means that only the areas that are overlapping with something gain tangibility in the kamui dimension

Since he can't touch phisical things while using kamui but we see him staying on the ground while using it, this leads to the only logica conclusion that when he is touching the ground in reality he is touching the ground of his kamui dimension with his feets/ legs etc, and what the enemy see is still the image of him touching the ground.
To my understanding. Since technically he doesn't fall below the ground like how mirio did with his quirk, he can still maintain contact to the ground. therefore if he want to hit you even while intangible state, obito should be able to do so.
His power is completely different, he wouldn't fall because his feet are planted in the Kamui dimension and the rest of his body is then using that as a platform. It's not like normal intangibility, he phases through shit because he's literally somewhere else.
The one thing about Kamui that you could say doesn't make sense is why doesn't Obito always fall through the ground while Kamui is active. There is at least one example I can remember where he does fall through the ground and thats when he escapes Danzo's final attack. But he should always be falling through the ground when Kamui activates because he can't choose what parts of himself become intangible, it just happens automatically while Kamui is active.
It could just be argued that when he wants to fight while being intangible, his ability automatically makes the soles of his feet tangible, and when he wants to phase through the ground, his ability automatically does it for him as well.

Six, I think a better example of DygoKnights’ complaint would be how Obito is able to stand on the ground while phasing, but not being able to touch naruto while phasing. It really seems more of an inconsistency than a plot hole though.
He’s not actually physically there in the normal world, but has his physical presence in the kami dimension. His presence outside is kinda like a genjustu. He can move his body through spaces and use it like regular but it’s not going do something like fall through Earth into space to some other planet the Otsutuki conquer millions of miles away.
More like kamui works like lemillion in mha he can choose what parts of his body are tangible and aren’t so he can choose not to make his feet go thru the ground whale choosing to make his mid section intangible except he couldn’t control it completely because he needed both eyes and that why it works the way it does while kakashi was in the kamui dimension

I think he's conflating Kamui's teleportation with its phasing ability. He has control over teleporting, but the phasing mechanics is an unconscious behavior.

I don’t think he understand kamui works unconsciously. Obito activates kamui and the ability automatically phases his body parts when he would come into contact with ANYTHING. He doesn’t get to pick which part stays or goes. He’s either completely intangible or he’s materialized there’s no in between.

I agree with the video. Obito states that he has to ACTIVATE it first, then send a specific part, or all of himself into Kamui. It isn’t ‘all or nothing’, it spites Obito’s explanation. (That’s how Kakashi’s blade cut Obito’s mask at all. Kamui’s never stated to be always on in the show or in general.

I have actually thought of this before and i came to the conclusion that when obito activates kamui, the body part that is about to be physicaly touched is automaticly being teleported to the kamui dimemsion . That would mean that he cant be touched by anything or touch himself nothing as it actually happens in the series. (correct me if im wrong)
Wouldn't make sense because Obito has shown that he can still physically stand on the ground or things when kamui is active if that was the case Obito would always fall through the floor

The actual definition for Kamui is "the ability to connect 2 points between dimensions", not even necessarily the kamui dimension as shown in the kaguya fight (thought that's the only one it has free access to). When sucking himself "into kamui" he can choose anypoint in the kamui dimension to go to, and when coming out, he can choose anypoint of the real world to connect to. And the body teleport that obitos eye has isn't teleporting his whole body all the time. When activated, obitos body parts will automatically teleport when they make contact with anything (attack or not), the rest of the body may be visible but he can't attack because his touch will face though his opponents automatically too, so he has to turn it off.
when activated kamui is a full body jutsu, what ever part would make contact is was is teleported, hence why we never see him activate it and attack someone physically

i think daigo was saying throughout the story his full body phasing was always a full commit; hit, miss, interrupted. that his opponents were only able to counter by the microseconds that they entered an impossible blindspot were they able to attack successfully, then come later shippuden and war arc and Obito is slelectively phasing body parts out of harm's way, then boast that he'd always been able to do it, flexing it by simultaneously hitting people while phasing through powered attacks. Yet when named characters throw a surprise left hook they somehow manage a hit even though another attack is still phasing through Obito. it's then Obito curses that they got lucky, only for the same action to be repeated a few more times before Obito conveniently starts phasing in and out with wrecking mobs by himself during a "tactical withdrawal" from fighting the main cast.
I don't think he caught the fact that while Obito activates it purposely, he doesn't actively phase the body parts, the phasing is exclusively unconscious, he doesn't control it at all

My question was always why does the part he send to the kamui dimension stay visible in the normal world, shouldn't it disappear like everything else that gets sent there? And for that matter how does the dimension relate to the real world in general? In the fight between Kakashi and Obito we see that the dimension has normal gravity and a floor to stand on so why do the seperate parts he sents there just float in the air and in addition to that how does his body continue to function while it exist in different dimension while others who get hit by the jutsu just suffer an injury as if the part was sliced off? Not saying that is a plot hole or anything just asking if anyone can explain it to me.

So how I see it, is that basically kamui automatically (when activated) deems certain things to be threats in certain things not threats, like air isn't a threat or the ground is in a threat or even certain jutsus, it's not like Obito has to consciously keep himself up above the ground with kamui it's that kamui doesn't see it as something he needs to phase through, a real pothole would by Obito doesn't pull people into the kamui Dimension like he was about to do with Minato it will make literally every fight against Obito almost nothing.

The Phasing vs Solidifying is a conscious act. That’s how he dodged then attacks. What’s not is when he’s actually in mode phasing, whatever comes in contact with his body automatically gets sent to Kamui Dimension. He can’t say/think okay “only my head goes but body stays” or “only my right arm now but the rest stay”. When in Phasing Mode, it’s similar to breathing. One doesn’t think/says “okay, I’m resting, so I’ll only breath in and out 50 times or “I’m running a mile so I’ll breath 120 times”. Your body automatically acclimates to how much air it needs at the moment.

Don't we see Obito try to attack while also phasing through? So either Obito don't know how his own ability works or it's inconsistent. Maybe the databooks got it wrong who knows. Imo I just think it's inconsistent not a plot hole.

People in this comment section really don’t understand Kamui and it’s literally straightforward how it works and is blantantly implied and shown SEVRAL times. To start off OBITO DOES NOT HAVE CONTROL OVER THE PHASING (Most of the times generally) Obito can teleport, but Kamui is a subconscious thing, Kamui can tell the difference between an attack or just touching when Obito is in danger. The only exception is the ground. Kamui phases Obito’s ENTIRE BODY but what happens is that Kamui is on Obito’s entire body but once he gets attacked that when the parts are teleported to the Kamui dimension. It isn’t an individual body part transportation. His whole body is phasing but again none of them are transported to the dimension until he gets attacked, and once active again Kamui doesn’t perceive the difference between a threat and non-threat. If Obito is being attacked at one point in his body Kamui auto-activates on his other parts once it comes into contact with something else (other that the ground) because it doesn’t detect the difference between what isn’t and is a threat

Whatever is touching him is phased so if his head is hit it phases and while its phased, all body parts will phase even if its not being touched at the moment and what is phased or being touched ex his head will appear in the dimention until whatever is touching said part of body is thu.
oh i see what's going on. Obito, when activating kamui phases through anything he touches. He's not phasing specific parts, specific parts that are being touched are automatically phased, it's why when kakashi hit him in the kamui demension, and caught him off guard, his head came in with him. His body wasn't being touched anymore, the top half was though, so it unphased the middle half and phased the top half automatically, meaning, if he attacked someone, it wouldnt work, that part would just get phased as well as long as obito is activly phasing through somthing. my big problem with how seth "debunks" these is he doesn't activly debunk this, or try to understand a misconception. He just knows why they're wrong, doesn't devulge the info, and calls it "retarded", or just says "that's not true" with no explination on why they're wrong. it makes him look like he's in denial as well as making him an abrasive person to have a discussion with. Not everybody knows everything, and coming back with facts AND class exponentially helps your case when looking at it from an unbiased outsider perspective. People in the comments bringing up the point of Obito being able to stand on ground whilst using Kamui to phase through things, I think this is because of chakra control. Like when Naruto and them were learning how to climb trees, and how sasuke was able to throw a kunai from his foot in chunin exams using chakra control almost like a magnet. I feel this is the best explanation for why he doesn’t phase through the floor as well. You could say he could do this to make areas like his hands tangible whilst phasing, but chakra control to the hands only increases there power. We haven’t seen anyone in Naruto climb like a monkey
His whole body going into kamui isnt necessary kamui is a autonomous ability once activated obito is essentially a visible ghost until he is attacking or not being attacked its like a “law” placed upon the jutsu same way flying rajins “law” is that there must be a marking where you intend to teleport you stay tangible whenever you attack and not about to receive damage or the time limit runs out but you essentially become danny phantom whenever kamui actives autonomously
Partial intangibility means that you can select which parts are tangible and which are not. This can't be countered by skill or timing. A good example would be Logia Fruit users from One Piece. Complete intangibility sucks because it can countered like with Obito or Hirudegarn from DBZ or Mirio Togata from MHA. Obito has partial intangibility ( which is why he doesn't sink through the ground like Mirio) with the weakness of complete intangibility which he shouldn't have
When his ability is active his whole body is intangible. He doesn’t send single body parts only parts being touched are sent. Its really simple and easy to understand honestly. Weve seen what happens when he sends his whole body at once…. he disappears.

And if that’s the case his entire body should be in the kamui dimension… And if not the case obito should be able to attack people even while certain body parts are intangibles.. His explanation makes no sense. Obito would literally just be teleporting in his definition of how it should work. They literally say the body parts in contact are sent to kamui dimension, meaning when the ability is active, any part of his body which comes in contact with another is teleported there. Be real. How didn't you get that complaint? The ability is stated to work one way but it isn't show to work the way it's meant to. A plot hole would be why doesn’t he just tank the hit. Surely getting tapped by Lee nunchuck isn't more important than killing naruto. We see later Obito can take harder hits and still be fine.
The complaint is that "why is his arm phased when it's not in the kamui demension" I agree with the original video. It does not make sense to me either. Now I usually love ur videos, and think you would probably have an answer for this but It feels like saying "that's how" kamui works" is not a real answer or maybe a misunderstanding of the original complaint
The very first point is irrelevant. In part one itachi uses tsukuyomi with the base sharingan and he simply just said “mangekyo” even tho the eyes didn’t change. I don’t see it as a plot hole.

I kinda understand what Dygo meant and Six really overreacted to what he was saying. Its not the best way to complain about kamui but it does have some sense to it. To my understanding, Obito should absolutely be able to still counterattack while phasing, but that would make him over powered and the way its beaten in verse is done well anyway.

Your right, that's not a plot hole... but explain to me this: Why can't obito just use ranged jutsus while kamui is active? His body is still in the normal world, so he could theoretically just fireball technique whoever is attacking him, right in the face! But for some fucked reason, he never does. We rarely see him use ninjutsu. He mainly uses taijutsu. Even though his main defensive ability can be used against him to limit his taijutsu! It makes no sense! We are told he has access to all 5 basic elements plus wood style, yet he consistently failed to use them together with kamui??? He uses raikiri and kamui together to form the kamui raikiri, so it's nor like kamui can't be activated at the same time as other techniques!

Any part of Obito’s body that makes contact is sent to the kamui dimension while the ability is active. This is why Obito cannot attack people while phasing

Nah dynoknight is right, i just dont think hge explained it correctly. When the gang figures out obitos ability, they figure out that he only sends a FRACTION of his body into the pocket dimension, not his whole body. But for some reason obito is unable to attack while hes sending a fraction of his body into the pocket. the rest of the body should be physical and only the fraction should be phased. Thats literally what they explained when they figured out obitos ability, but BEFORE they fiigure out his ability, this rule didnt apply. It's weird.

To summarize what I was saying in this video since it's kind of scattered I was essentially getting at the idea that this is how the jutsu works it's not a plot hole the mechanics of it just are this way. The best you can say about it is the mechanics are confusing not that it's a plothole.

Obito's whole body for most of the series becomes intangible against his will as stated when he first uses it, kakashi explains that when something phases through him the part of his body overlapping with something (the kunai kakashi threw or obito's stomach for example) becomes tangible but only in the kamui dimension, which is how the kunai broke his mask and kakashi punched him in the stomach. This doesn't make the rest of his body tangible it just means that only the areas that are overlapping with something gain tangibility in the kamui dimension

To my understanding. Since technically he doesn't fall below the ground like how mirio did with his quirk, he can still maintain contact to the ground. therefore if he want to hit you even while intangible state, obito should be able to do so.
His power is completely different, he wouldn't fall because his feet are planted in the Kamui dimension and the rest of his body is then using that as a platform. It's not like normal intangibility, he phases through shit because he's literally somewhere else.
The one thing about Kamui that you could say doesn't make sense is why doesn't Obito always fall through the ground while Kamui is active. There is at least one example I can remember where he does fall through the ground and thats when he escapes Danzo's final attack. But he should always be falling through the ground when Kamui activates because he can't choose what parts of himself become intangible, it just happens automatically while Kamui is active.
It could just be argued that when he wants to fight while being intangible, his ability automatically makes the soles of his feet tangible, and when he wants to phase through the ground, his ability automatically does it for him as well.

I think the best explanation is simply from the fact that I don’t think he ever uses Kamui while standing in the ground for long enough for him to fall through. I think he's conflating Kamui's teleportation with its phasing ability. He has control over teleporting, but the phasing mechanics is an unconscious behavior.

I don’t think he understand kamui works unconsciously. Obito activates kamui and the ability automatically phases his body parts when he would come into contact with ANYTHING. He doesn’t get to pick which part stays or goes. He’s either completely intangible or he’s materialized there’s no in between.

I agree with the video. Obito states that he has to ACTIVATE it first, then send a specific part, or all of himself into Kamui. It isn’t ‘all or nothing’, it spites Obito’s explanation.

I have actually thought of this before and i came to the conclusion that when obito activates kamui, the body part that is about to be physicaly touched is automaticly being teleported to the kamui dimemsion . That would mean that he cant be touched by anything or touch himself nothing as it actually happens in the series. (correct me if im wrong)

The actual definition for Kamui is "the ability to connect 2 points between dimensions", not even necessarily the kamui dimension as shown in the kaguya fight (thought that's the only one it has free access to).
When sucking himself "into kamui" he can choose anypoint in the kamui dimension to go to, and when coming out, he can choose anypoint of the real world to connect to.
And the body teleport that obitos eye has isn't teleporting his whole body all the time. When activated, obitos body parts will automatically teleport when they make contact with anything (attack or not), the rest of the body may be visible but he can't attack because his touch will face though his opponents automatically too, so he has to turn it off.
when activated kamui is a full body jutsu, what ever part would make contact is was is teleported, hence why we never see him activate it and attack someone physically

i think daigo was saying throughout the story his full body phasing was always a full commit; hit, miss, interrupted.
that his opponents were only able to counter by the microseconds that they entered an impossible blindspot were they able to attack successfully, then come later shippuden and war arc and Obito is slelectively phasing body parts out of harm's way, then boast that he'd always been able to do it, flexing it by simultaneously hitting people while phasing through powered attacks.
Yet when named characters throw a surprise left hook they somehow manage a hit even though another attack is still phasing through Obito. it's then Obito curses that they got lucky, only for the same action to be repeated a few more times before Obito conveniently starts phasing in and out with wrecking mobs by himself during a "tactical withdrawal" from fighting the main cast.
I don't think he caught the fact that while Obito activates it purposely, he doesn't actively phase the body parts, the phasing is exclusively unconscious, he doesn't control it at all

My question was always why does the part he send to the kamui dimension stay visible in the normal world, shouldn't it disappear like everything else that gets sent there? And for that matter how does the dimension relate to the real world in general? In the fight between Kakashi and Obito we see that the dimension has normal gravity and a floor to stand on so why do the seperate parts he sents there just float in the air and in addition to that how does his body continue to function while it exist in different dimension while others who get hit by the jutsu just suffer an injury as if the part was sliced off?

I've been watching DygoKnight since his beginning. So cool to see him get attention by others in the Naruto community.
So how I see it, is that basically kamui automatically (when activated) deems certain things to be threats in certain things not threats, like air isn't a threat or the ground is in a threat or even certain jutsus, it's not like Obito has to consciously keep himself up above the ground with kamui it's that kamui doesn't see it as something he needs to phase through, a real pothole would by Obito doesn't pull people into the kamui Dimension like he was about to do with Minato it will make literally every fight against Obito almost nothing.

The Phasing vs Solidifying is a conscious act. That’s how he dodged then attacks.
What’s not is when he’s actually in mode phasing, whatever comes in contact with his body automatically gets sent to Kamui Dimension.
He can’t say/think okay “only my head goes but body stays” or “only my right arm now but the rest stay”.
When in Phasing Mode, it’s similar to breathing. One doesn’t think/says “okay, I’m resting, so I’ll only breath in and out 50 times or “I’m running a mile so I’ll breath 120 times”. Your body automatically acclimates to how much air it needs at the moment.

To start off OBITO DOES NOT HAVE CONTROL OVER THE PHASING (Most of the times generally) Obito can teleport, but Kamui is a subconscious thing, Kamui can tell the difference between an attack or just touching when Obito is in danger. The only exception is the ground.
Kamui phases Obito’s ENTIRE BODY but what happens is that Kamui is on Obito’s entire body but once he gets attacked that when the parts are teleported to the Kamui dimension.
It isn’t an individual body part transportation. His whole body is phasing but again none of them are transported to the dimension until he gets attacked, and once active again Kamui doesn’t perceive the difference between a threat and non-threat. If Obito is being attacked at one point in his body Kamui auto-activates on his other parts once it comes into contact with something else (other that the ground) because it doesn’t detect the difference between what isn’t and is a threat

oh i see what's going on. Obito, when activating kamui phases through anything he touches. He's not phasing specific parts, specific parts that are being touched are automatically phased, it's why when kakashi hit him in the kamui demension, and caught him off guard, his head came in with him. His body wasn't being touched anymore, the top half was though, so it unphased the middle half and phased the top half automatically, meaning, if he attacked someone, it wouldnt work, that part would just get phased as well as long as obito is activly phasing through somthing.
my big problem with how seth "debunks" these is he doesn't activly debunk this, or try to understand a misconception. He just knows why they're wrong, doesn't devulge the info, and calls it "retarded", or just says "that's not true" with no explination on why they're wrong. it makes him look like he's in denial as well as making him an abrasive person to have a discussion with. Not everybody knows everything, and coming back with facts AND class exponentially helps your case when looking at it from an unbiased outsider perspective. I agree with what he said, but not how he went about saying it.
People in the comments bringing up the point of Obito being able to stand on ground whilst using Kamui to phase through things, I think this is because of chakra control. Like when Naruto and them were learning how to climb trees, and how sasuke was able to throw a kunai from his foot in chunin exams using chakra control almost like a magnet. I feel this is the best explanation for why he doesn’t phase through the floor as well.
You could say he could do this to make areas like his hands tangible whilst phasing, but chakra control to the hands only increases there power. We haven’t seen anyone in Naruto climb like a monkey
His whole body going into kamui isnt necessary kamui is a autonomous ability once activated obito is essentially a visible ghost until he is attacking or not being attacked its like a “law” placed upon the jutsu same way flying rajins “law” is that there must be a marking where you intend to teleport you stay tangible whenever you attack and not about to receive damage or the time limit runs out but you essentially become danny phantom whenever kamui actives autonomously
Partial intangibility means that you can select which parts are tangible and which are not. This can't be countered by skill or timing. A good example would be Logia Fruit users from One Piece.
Complete intangibility sucks because it can countered like with Obito or Hirudegarn from DBZ or Mirio Togata from MHA.
Obito has partial intangibility ( which is why he doesn't sink through the ground like Mirio) with the weakness of complete intangibility which he shouldn't have
When his ability is active his whole body is intangible. He doesn’t send single body parts only parts being touched are sent. Its really simple and easy to understand honestly. Weve seen what happens when he sends his whole body at once…. he disappears.

To further buttress his point, if Kamui automatically phases his entire body when he gets attacked then how is he even able to walk while using Kamui. It makes no sense. The very first point is irrelevant. In part one itachi uses tsukuyomi with the base sharingan and he simply just said “mangekyo” even tho the eyes didn’t change. I don’t see it as a plot hole.

To my understanding, Obito should absolutely be able to still counterattack while phasing, but that would make him over powered and the way its beaten in verse is done well anyway.
he can't. because once his phasing ability is active then whatever thing physically interacts with his body will be temporarily sent to the kamui dimension until it stops interacting with his body. that's just how it works, and it's totally unconscious.

Nah dynoknight is right, i just dont think hge explained it correctly. When the gang figures out obitos ability, they figure out that he only sends a FRACTION of his body into the pocket dimension, not his whole body. But for some reason obito is unable to attack while hes sending a fraction of his body into the pocket. the rest of the body should be physical and only the fraction should be phased. Thats literally what they explained when they figured out obitos ability, but BEFORE they fiigure out his ability, this rule didnt apply. It's weird.
