    Congratulations on matching into EM, Helene! That's an amazing accomplishment and I wish you continued success moving forward. I am interested in neurosurgery, so if you have a colleague who matched into the specialty, please interview him/her. Thank you!

      ChrisA3600 of course. Only person I can think of is a neurosurg resident who graduated from here a few years ago but he’s probs super busy. I did have a classmate who matched into neurology tho if you’re interested in that?

      @@HeyDoctorHelene Great! Thank you!
      Yes, some questions I have:
      1. Why did you choose to pursue Neurosurg?
      2. I am currently an MS3 at an institution w/o a Neurosurg department. What advice do you have for me in gaining mentorship and clinical research?
      3. In undergrad, I did summer research in field biology and biophysics (abstracts and national poster presentations for both). Neuroscience research is preferred, but are these previous projects worth listing on my ERAS application?
      4. I have two colleagues with STEP 1 scores in the high 220s/low 230s. The average match for successful match applicants has been ~245 in recent years. What advice do you have for these students and others with similar scores seeking to match into Neurosurg?
      5. Did you do away rotations? If so, how many did you do? What was your experience like?
      6. Can you please describe your interview experience?
      7. Any last advice for students who are serious about pursuing Neurosurg.
      Congratulations to the guest on his/her match!

I didn't realise we needed these as well as LOR. My main opportunity to come over for US experience would be in my 4-6 week elective in my final year.

    What if you feel like several specialties have “your people”? Even after rotations?

    • @HeyDoctorHelene
      @HeyDoctorHelene  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      AnnaLisa Wilson that’s a great question. Then you really have to sit down and think to yourself what you’re most interested in. What you can see yourself waking up to do everyday. What specialty-specific information can you see yourself reading about all the time to stay up to date? How the lifestyle will look, etc. only you can make that decision. If you still feel like several specialities fit you then possibly look into family medicine and explore their subspecialties as well

    I think emergency doctors are the best doctors to diagnose someone they see every illness especially chest pain, abdominal pain and headaches. They rule out heart attacks, appendicitis and aneurysms. They deal with trauma.

    I first want to congratulate on matching in Emergency Medicine! That is actually my dream specialty, however, I have been considering a combined specialty of EM/IM. Are SLOEs the same thing as LORs?

    • @o.jeremiahmadedor4502
      @o.jeremiahmadedor4502 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no, SLOE are done by the residency program (so they must have a qualified residency program) and LOR are given by the attending/ a specific person.

    • @oz2986
      @oz2986 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@o.jeremiahmadedor4502 so if you're doing a rotation in a department that happens to have a residency program, then you could get a sloe? and if not, you can just get a regualr lor?
