me, a knitter, not an engineer, watching a video about engineering a knitting machine: 👁️👄👁️

Same! But I think it's her. She's interesting to watch: she's competent, confident et charismatic.

Love the "talking to self" when working out issues. I do the same as I find it helps me visualise the possible problem.😊

This combined debugging of software, hardware (both board and knitting machine), and configuration is so fun. So many moving parts, literally and figuratively.

This was a good one, getting to see how much work goes into trying to make new items work. Also the amount of work that goes into just trying to set it all up to try. Many thanks for spending that time to show us.

Thank you so much. I appreciate what you do. I've always believed that it is important to know how your machine works. I feel that it helps on some the frustration when working on a project.

Thank you for telling me about Jens. My “old” Evil Mad Scientist board worked kinda. The shield came with a KH950 I bought last year. It would select needles correctly, but never gave the end beeps and continued to knit the last row forever. We went through some troubleshooting and came to the conclusion that the shield had met its expiration. I did use it to make a couple sweaters, I just needed to manually end the pattern. I now have a new board winging my way! Thanks! 😊

That sounds more like a software problem than a hardware problem.

I cannot code, I cannot knit, but I really love hearing you explain your thought process and everything.
I may not be a new machine knitter, but I certainly try to inspire people that I know to try it aha

18:21 clamping to the table before removing the cover makes so much sense!

I'm waiting for my shield to arrive. I'm going the route of chaos. I have brought an esp32 and will be building a web interface. I don't know if I will share it or not.
If the ayab Web interface hasn't progressed by the time mine is usable, I might ask if people want to see it.

When I started using my kh910 and AYAB a few years ago I had issue with randomly selected needles. After a lot of debug work I stumbled upon when my design was wide enough for the carriage to pass the return sensors there was no issue. Now I primarily work 160 needles so there is no problem. If I have a narrow design I have to still take the carriage to the sensors to avoid the random needle selection. Not a huge price to pay for the end result. The technical side of AYAB and the knitting machines themselves is very interesting.

That bug has largely been fixed. There was some carriage drift. You should be fine when the next release is out.

I’ve been seeing some weird behavior with my Brother 910 + KG88. I had forgotten that there’s really only a 16 stitch wide pattern, not the full 60 shown on the Mylar. The moment you said “buffer”, a lightbulb went on in my head. Still not sure what’s going on, but it’s a start.

I posted over on reddit as well but does anyone know why this Brother KH-360 4.5mm / 9mm pitch knitter has 2 different numbers? ive been all over the web trying to find out what this machine can do and no luck so far. all i can find are videos in other languages that i cant get to translate properly. I cant seem to locate the manual yet either. Im still hunting though

Take a look at the Brother KX395 and 400. They also have the convertible 4.5/9mm feature, but have a different mast. They have manuals in English; your smaller 360 one may never have been marketed outside of Japan, I'd never heard of it. To learn how to thread the mast, look at the Silver Reed LK100.

    • @CidtheVicious3

Thank you! I haven't bought the machine yet, I keep finding that model all over eBay and I wanted to find the manual for it before i purchased it, I had assumed the dual numbers meant it could be used at either gauge which I thought I would definitely use but i also found basically a silver reed lk100 for 180 that I am thinking about getting. This is going to be my first flatbed machine so I've been going back and forth about which one I should get. I am pretty sure I would use a 9mm bulky gauge machine way more than 4.5mm but the idea of being able to have one machine do both was intriguing, but the lack of a English manual for the 360 has me hesitating, I can see my lack of experience causing issues if i went for it over the lk100 which has a lot more English documentation. the lk100 needs some loving including brand new needles and a good cleaning and lube from what i can see on the ad. @@plummetingsheep

    • @plummetingsheep
      @plummetingsheep 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

If you decide that you want the dual-gauge feature, I don't think the lack of a specific manual in English is that big of a barrier. Start by pointing the translate feature in your phone at the Japanese text in the manual that will presumably come with it. And use the English LK100 manual for threading the carriage, and the KX395 manual for using the dual-gauge feature. Once you're past the very basics, all the plastic-bed machines are pretty similar. And join at least one of the many machine knitting groups out there on Facebook, Ravelry, Discord etc, the community will help you if you get stuck.
About that LK100 you're looking at - it's very rare for a machine to need the expense of a full set of new needles, usually any discoloration can be cleaned off with a little effort. Only replace needles that are actually bent or the latch doesn't move freely.
