How is that sensible when Hoss was the only Genetic "OUTCROSS that they had? They produce Nothing new with the same bulls they've been running for years. Outcrosses ensure that you don't allow genetic weaknesses to come into a bloodline and thrive. I know this because I was a professional breeder of German Imported German Shepherds used for Police K-9 dog in Police Departments all over the USA I know Genetic in animals and it's the same for ALL. You want an and outcross line weaving in every other generation. Dusty's got 4 generations down and no outcross now because he sold outcross. He should have sold Dunbar and kept Hoss as the outcross for both bull lines. He will discover that but it Will cost him. I hope when he goes to sales of Bison, he buys another Large Bull and KEEPS it as the outcross that will be need.
I read this week that there is a concerted effort to multiply bison. It said there are only 31000 left, and there is fear of extinction. Thank you CTB for all you do to preserve an American icon and legend! All the best from Texas.
You're confusing WIld Bison vs. commercial Livestock like Cross TImbers. There is no danger of Bison disappearing...Wild Bison need their numbers to grow for sure, but there's like 500k+ Bison on farms/ranches.
We watching need to remember that although many have names they are not pets. You run a ranch which is your business. The health of your ranch is paramount for you guys.
Yes, I agree. the love is something we humans cannot help. it happens when you love your work and put you heart into it. if we harden our hearts so we wont get hurt, we miss out on what makes life worth living. Life has meaning. No, the bison are not supposed to be pets, but some of them can just grab your heart.❤
I can only imagine how hard it was to have to let some of the herd go, but Dusty and Marisa, y’all must be really proud knowing that a big part of the Ponderosa legacy is spreading out to other parts of the country. And wow, are those guys starting out with great genetics or what? I can’t wait to see future pictures of the Ponderosa legacy in Colorado. They are going to do really great there. Y’all keep up the great work, you’re doing awesome!
Those females to be with Hoss is a fantastic match for a starter herd. IF the new owners spend time with Hoss, they too can have that special relationship that you have with Dunbar and Big Joe. You know that where have gone those chosen won't become jerky, because they are looking to grow a herd. With that known, and where you are at now, it was an opportunity that you couldn't pass up. It is a win, win, win (you, the new owners and the bison) situation. Well Done! Have a safe trip home and stay healthy and be safe.
It's sad to see Hoss go but he gets to carry on his genetics. Glad that those people provided you a place for you to take care of the bison while the other people came to get them. Hoss will make you proud. GOD bless y'all.
They chose a great selection to start their new herd with! Hoss is a great choice for them. Remember: we have to sell our best to keep our reputation... breeding stock aside. Very exciting for everyone!
Dusty, Hoss will have his own herd, and have his chance to shine! It is sad to see him go, but it's like when you got your first Bison. He will have a great future. Please make sure to share videos from time to time of HIS originals.
CONGRADULATIONS to James and Jack on the starting 😊herd from Cross Timbers Bison!!😊😊. Dusty, Marisa and Brook keep doing what you need to for your Bison Ranch.❤🎉❤🎉
Selling Hoss was not a big surprise and i think a good choice. Also mixing up the females, wolverine and the others also for a variety of the gene's. Very thankful for the processing plant allowing you the space to water the bison to keep them healthy and happy on their long trip.
I do love Hoss, but I love them all 🦬🦬🦬💗🦬🦬🦬 I love how God provided a place to unload right near the breakdown. It is exciting that your herd is helping another American Bison lover start their ranching experience!
Congratulations Baker family! I’m relieved that you are happy and comfortable with the new buyers, that’s what matters the most! This decision helps reduce your herd, increase your cash flow and gives you some peace of mind to concentrate on some of the other critters lol, great decision guys and good luck 🙏🏻♥️🇨🇦
I'm so dag'on proud of y'alls decision to keep Hoss with his own heard . Although it's in a few states away the Legend of Hoss will live on. Y'all are true Bison Ranchers with an impeccable name out there . Thank y'all for all the love an compassion that make Ranchin what it is today . God Bless y'all 💯 ❤ 🙏 🇺🇲
I think Hoss will be very happy to have all the girls, without having to compete with anyone. Glad you all made it back home safe and had the problem figured out. Also thanks for the skilift footage! Haven't sat in one of those in at least 30 years! Always loved the view from up in the lift.
No different to selling off puppies knowing that you can't keep them all. The farm size and pasture quality is of the upper most importance, Dusty. I am thrilled they went for a home and not for slaughter. I wish the new owners well on their adventure. Sorry about the vehicle issue though.
An AWESOME move for CTB and the whole species!!!! Good genetics, a new herd in Colorado and cash to keep CTB on a strong financial footing. A WIN-WIN-WIN!!!!!!
I think that is great for Hoss, for his new owners and for y'all. For Hoss to be the Hoss Boss at a new ranch is awesome. What a great little herd to start with!
Whilst it will have been a difficult decision to sell Hoss, I feel for you, Marissa and little Brooke. I fully understand that these difficult decisions have to be made. You've made a wonderful decision to help bring back the Bison to America by helping another family help in the diversity of bloodlines to bring back an important part of America's national icon. I'm so proud of what you are doing and helping to achieve. You are doing a sensational job 👏 🙌 I hope that people are kind to you, and please don't listen to any negative comments. You are doing a sensational job!!! Love always Deb from Australia. 🇦🇺🥰🤗💜💕💓🌹🦬🦬🦬
I grew up in Colorado about an hour away from Paonia. Still live here! Paonia is a beautiful place. I would have loved to meet ya'll. It makes my heart warm and fuzzy to know some of your bison are right up the road! 💜
Thank you Dusty and family for the update on the Bison that you sold and took to Colorado ! I've been around that area of Colorado it's really beautiful ! I know that Hoss and his ladies will love it there ! I hope one you all can take a trip there to see Hoss and his ladies and give us a update vidoe on them !
Hauss had to be a difficult discussion, but have 2 other great bulls as well it makes sense. At the end of the day only you and Marica know what's best for your family as well as your ranch.👍
Selling Hoss was a wise decision. Big Joe taught him well, so it's his time to Shine now. What a great starter herd you've provided. Hoss will always be a Legend on the "Ponderosa".
I guessed that if sold a bull it would Hoss. Hoss and the females will have a great life in Colorado. Very event filled journey. God's grace was with you and on y'all. You didn't know there was a bison processor in that town but God did.
Unless you are raising a few pets this is how it Has to be. Raised on a cattle ranch and it is hard to move animals along but it did seem as you had too many. Now you have given the opportunity that got you started to someone else. Its a win win situation. You, Marrisa, and Brooks should be proud!
So sorry, But I'd like to add that I still greatly appreciate and respect 🙏 the 6 firemen that came to help us during our 2019/2020 fires that lost their lives. When you told us about the need to sell off part of your herd and why (which makes perfect sense to me, despite only knowing what you have taught us about bison), the first thing I thought was "Is Hoss getting sold or Joe?". The best thing you could do for the continuation of bison herds in our country was definitely selling one of the bulls to go with several of the cows. I don't know how you managed to say goodbye to Hoss, but you all did such a wonderfully unselfish thing here. If I was your Mom, I would be so very proud of you! Heck, I'm not your Mom and I'm still so very proud of all of you!! Those two men are so very blessed to have Hoss and those pretty ladies to start off their herd, too! God bless the 3 of you for making this unselfish decision! It is so important to greatly build up the number of bison in our country! Have a fantastic weekend and be so very proud of yourselves! With love, prayers, and gentle hugs from Donna Gulyas in Spring Hill, Florida. 🥰
I, too, thought that Hoss was going to be sold, which he was. As long as Dunbar and Eleanor were kept, I am happy. I am guessing that two bulls will not be needed someday. Just remember Dusty once promised that the original herd would never be sold. I'm hoping he honors that promise.
I'm sure they checked out the location and plans the new owners have for them. They love their bison but have too many animals. It will be better for the animals and their land usage.
You were right the first time on pronouncing Salida. (Sal-eye-da)I lived there for two years. When I lived there in 1975, 1976, they rolled up the streets at about 9pm. FYI, the Arkansas river starts up in Leadville, CO. Yes, I've been to Gunnison. Beautiful country.
Hi Dusty, Marissa and Brookes, I am so glad that you sold Hoss. You have sold fantastic animals to an owner who is starting anew with a herd and by sending Hoss you’ve given them the best opportunity for growing the herd. Just like the start you guys had with Dunbar. So I believe you made the right choices. Good for you guys. I just know that we will hear great things about Hoss and his ladies over the coming months and years. I wish the new owner lots of luck for the future. If they have a TH-cam channel I’d be interested in watching their videos. Thanks Dusty for all you do for the betterment of our great American/Canadian bison 🦬. Just between Alberta and Saskatchewan border there is a bison ranch just off highway 9 in Alberta and I love to pull over on the side of the road and just watch them grazing. It’s a beautiful sight on our beautiful prairie. God bless you and your family Dusty. ❤️🇨🇦
Saw that you came thru Amarillo; I could have stood out on the front🧓 porch to wave as you went thru. You also came back thru my favorite place - Angel fire/Eagle Nest . Been familiar with that part of New Mexico for the past 76 years of my life. Went to Red River when I was 4 years old - like Brooke ! Her life is much more enriched than mine - SHE has her own BUFFALO, 🦬CHICKENS 🐔 AND HORSES 🐎 ! YOU ARE ONE lucky girl, Miss Brooke ! ! CONGRATULATIONS on your successful trip . Blessings, Grace and Peace to you , family and team C.T.B. !
The new owners will get to carry on the Cross Timbers Bison tradition. They are where you were and handful of years ago. So exciting to have their first bull, especially a great one like Hoss. He will do they well. Congrats on selling the 7 bison. The money and the space will be put to good use! So excited to be on this journey with you Dusty, Marisa and Brooks!
Oh wow, you’re producing some good Bison and able to start having their good genetics going to other ranches, congrats on that. It’ll be something down the road when you start seeing what they produce in a herd of Bison. It’s moving forward Dusty and Marissa, so glad for you. ❤❤
I remember when you got Hoss and we helped name him. He's come a long way and it's his turn to be king of the mountain. Good luck big boy and carry on💜💜
Hoss will be a great addition to the new owners! It is a hard decision for you guys, yes, but at the same time it's a necessary for your business side and it's less stress for all of you, and a great foundation for them. Having Big Joe and Dunbar as your main Bulls make sense genetically too. Bison eventually leaving the ponderosa is just inevitable anyway; perhaps someone will reach out to you after watching the video!
Thank you for doing what you do with the Bison it is a most important decision to control your herd size. I love your videos with your family ❤❤ keep on Bison. ❤❤
Even your children fly the nest. Genetics need to be renewed ever so often. When you only have so much land you need to thin the herd. So excited for Hoss and the girls.
Those bison surprised me. I thought they'd stampede out of the trailer bu no. It was a nice orderly exit from your trailer and back into the receivers trailer. Good job. Great pick.

Great video as always. You and your wife have to do what you have to do for your business and for yourselves.
The day you guys found out that you heard was too large we knew this day was coming. I commend you guys for having the wisdom and the courage to make the hard decision to reduce your herd size. Not only will this be better for your bison, but it will help with overall increase their numbers!
I'm sad to see Hoss go but I understand. It helps he went to a good home we will get updates from. Thank you for always being upfront and honest with us I think that helps us understand so much more why you do what you do. ❤❤ I hope their new home enjoys them as much as we have!!
Hello Dusty and Marisa What a great thing to do! Doc helped you get started…. Now you are helping James and Jack and their families. Hoss will be great for them. He’s learned from the best! He’s spent time with both Big Joe and Dunbar! Blessings!❤ ~Linda (Edit to correct spelling… auto correct is not always right😂)
Dusty you and Marisa have to do what is best for your family, your ranch, and your animals 🦬 Best of luck to the people who bought your animals to start their own bison heard 🦬👏🏻👍🙏 Thank God that your round trip, to and back from Colorado, was safe though eventful 🙏🌻
I admit to expressing my displeasure when it became necessary to relocating some bison with Kevin. I was very unhappy. I apologize first and foremost. For me to get upset is ridiculous of me. I have made hard decisions that I hated making. I love my people. I appreciate the love and the work you put into the bison.
Salida and Buena Vista are beautiful towns. I spent time there growing up during vacations. Great people. I am not surprised the meat co let you use their pens. I wish the best for the new owners and I am sure they will keep you updated on Hoss. Gunnision is a nice area too. Thank you for keeping us updated.
Dusty and Marissa we are totally behind you in this decision and we fully understand the tough decisions that had to be made. We love and appreciate you guys and this channel. 👍❤️
Good decsion for your bison ranch. I'm surprised you let Hoss go, but considering you already have 2 good breeding bulls, it was bound to happen. Glad you all made it back home safely. Hope Mud's truck won't be too expensive to have fixed. That was awfully nice of him to take on the job of hauling the small herd to Colorado.
Yes... One of the tribes in First Nation have created pool of pure bison. They test DNA for any cattle DNA and only allow pure blood Bison into the herd. It has been a long struggle to get this program together but now it is in place and the bison are closely monitored. It seems to be working well but has a long way to go but the tribe is absolutely determined to expand the bison population.
I’m so happy I seen this video because I would have wondered where Hoss was. His legacy will forever carry over to this new generation. Happy for the new owners of Hoss.
Congratulations to the new owners of one of the best starter herds! Dusty & family you are continuing generations of the American Bison!
That's awesome , Hoss will have his own herd now !
Hoss will always be famous for all of us who love your family and Bison journey.
Hoss makes the most sense. You already have two mature bulls. I am excited for him and his new journey. Best of luck buddy!

A new foundation herd in CO! And Hoss' legacy will continue in a new location!! This is so exciting!
Sad that I won't get to see Hoss grow and keep up with his shenanigans anymore, but I'm happy for him. He will be the main man now

Great video as always. You and your wife have to do what you have to do for your business and for yourselves.
You need to do for you and the ranch. I’m glad it was Hoss.
Glad this big guy got a great new home 😉🇨🇦🥰
Have a great journey mate, love you and Brooks and Marissa 😊🥰🥰🥰😊x
The day you guys found out that you heard was too large we knew this day was coming. I commend you guys for having the wisdom and the courage to make the hard decision to reduce your herd size. Not only will this be better for your bison, but it will help with overall increase their numbers!
Will miss seeing Hoss's silly antics but understandable and he is getting a good home hope all goes well for them in Colorado
I'm sad to see Hoss go but I understand. It helps he went to a good home we will get updates from. Thank you for always being upfront and honest with us I think that helps us understand so much more why you do what you do. ❤❤ I hope their new home enjoys them as much as we have!!
Hello Dusty and Marisa
What a great thing to do! Doc helped you get started…. Now you are helping James and Jack and their families.
Hoss will be great for them. He’s learned from the best! He’s spent time with both Big Joe and Dunbar!
Blessings!❤

(Edit to correct spelling… auto correct is not always right😂)
Hoss is a beautiful bull! If I were buying from your ranch he would definitely be on my list!😊
Dusty and Marissa love and enjoy your videos. May the lord bless and protect you and your traveling to Colorado
Paonia! Yea it’s a great place. The busons will love it.
Enjoy all your videos. Thanks for the extra merchandise that you sent with my husband's jerky package that I purchased for his Bday....he loved it!!!!
The Bison will love Colorado. I wish you could of got to Paonia. It's a beautiful little town. Well used to be...lol
I knew hoss would be going, just made sense. Good luck to the new owners, and on we go further into the bright future of the ponderosa.
Thrilled for your Family and for James and Jack!😎👍✅
GOD BLESS ALWAYS Awesome Sad to See Hoss go Dunbar lost a Buddy thanks for doing what your Doing
So exciting. Glad you're all home safe.
Those guys got good stock. Good choices. Sorry about the truck troubles.
It’s true - it was time for Hoss to go. Glad you found him and some familiar females a good home!
Well done
I admit to expressing my displeasure when it became necessary to relocating some bison with Kevin. I was very unhappy. I apologize first and foremost. For me to get upset is ridiculous of me. I have made hard decisions that I hated making. I love my people. I appreciate the love and the work you put into the bison.
I lived and worked in Paonia. I worked the Colorado Westmoreland Coal mine. Happy times then.
I grew up in Montrose. Are you still in Colorado?
Salida and Buena Vista are beautiful towns. I spent time there growing up during vacations. Great people. I am not surprised the meat co let you use their pens. I wish the best for the new owners and I am sure they will keep you updated on Hoss. Gunnision is a nice area too. Thank you for keeping us updated.
Dusty and Marissa we are totally behind you in this decision and we fully understand the tough decisions that had to be made. We love and appreciate you guys and this channel. 👍❤️
Those ladies were wondering why you were messing with their sleep? What a lucky new bison rancher - great stock to start a ranch.
Sad to see Hoss go but Im sure we will be kept updated on the progress of their new bison adventure.❤
Hey you are just doing what needs to happen, and you now have helped them stating a new Herd, your awesome
Congratulations!
Hoss has his own herd 🦬💗🦬
