    Big V6 engines are my favorite engine sound ever. Whether it's a big gasser V6, a detroit diesel V6, or even the Chevy 4.3 V6 in the astro vans and pickups. They have the most musical and pleasing tone.

    Those v6 we're 305 to 427 cid not tons of horsepower but massive amounts of torque.
    Also had rare V12 option . We're in all cabover beer trucks when I was young good engine.

      you need to adjust the screws on the bottom. of the carb till it got the gas flow flowing in to it sounds like you got the gas screwbout closed all the way off

    Keep filming videos like this and you'll be up to 1K subs before you know it! 😁👍 Nice work fellas. Enjoyed seeing the truck move under it's own power. I like the idea of the fire truck fenders in the back. Hopefully you can get the carb adjusted right. Keep at it, have plenty of patients and happy wrenching 🔧🔩

    That v 6 sounds pretty good. Find an in cab fuel tank out of an old Chevy pu, new fuel pump,new oil and filter fresh coolant and your off to a good start.

    • @matthewbarnes7075
      @matthewbarnes7075  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That’s the plan, except for in cab fuel tank. Truck body isn’t meant for one, need something frame mounted :)

    Two barrel off 400 SBC or 454 check manifold bolt pattern for carb , I put a dually pu bed on my two ton .This isn't OSHA approved but a garden sprayer hooked to the gas line and pumped 25times should give you 5 to 10 minutes of drive time I f you have a gallon and a half fuel capacity and a big enough yard..a pressure regulator keeps it at 5 lbs so you don't flood it or hydro lock it with gas ---watch for leaks !!!!

    As far as wheel and master cylinders I have often had good luck with just disassembly, cleaning and honing will bring them back to none leaking serviceable condition. I used to be able to buy just the piston cups for cylinders if rebuild kits weren’t available, I don’t know if they are still available anywhere. Good luck with it!

    I did that once with the fuel tank on the roof for the same reason. We were rescuing an old car and thought about buying a cheap electric fuel pump. Maybe even a windshield washer pump. Then we realized gravity could do it too. Had about a 15-minute drive home.

    Use landscape fuel / no 85 corn power . Remember that those trucks ran on leaded fuel , and needed motor oils that had extra chemicals so that the valve train pieces didn't prematurely wore or failed ,diesel oil is only thing left with proper additives ..

    Look around at the farm machinery in your" last time it run area " for a fuel tank ,though the boat tank still works for now score a cheap electric pump for a Toyota 2.4 carb motor 5 lbs working fuel pressure about $ 40 bucks .A plug for the cigarette lighter gives you power and on and off capabilities .Pull plugs and look at the tips for color- tan good -chunky crud ,needs cleaning ,soak in nail polish remover and use small wire brush ,goggles too that s__it burns. Regap and replace .

    O-H-I-O Porter greetings.🇺🇸 Well, it does sound rather good. We love old trucks, even those with gas engines. How does it look on the inside? What made you buy this truck? NAPA, a good one, can give you some part #s probably. You may be surprised as to what parts may be available. Either way, you will have fun on this project. It will stretch you in several ways, but it will be exciting. Thanks for sharing.🥰😎✌️

      If you watch the first video on the channel, you can see the interior and I told the story about how I came across it. The truck is pretty rough on the inside :)

      @@matthewbarnes7075 🇺🇸 Hey, when they’ve sat for years, they usually are quite rough, worn out & in quite a mess. Will check I it out. Enjoy, my friend! 🥰😎✌️

    Big ass truck flywheels make them feel smooth also why they are slow to rev and slow down when you back off the gas

      Thanks for the tip! I think I may have found a better option than trying to rebuild everything on the truck currently. Should have a video about my plan soon

    a two barrel is just fine for that motor, anything over 500cfm would be overkill.

    excuse me but i beleave you have the wrong model of truck for i own 2 real GMC 5500s and from 1968 to 1972 they never had dual headlights nor hood that opens like this truck you are showing i think what you have is a 7500 not a 5500 perhaps you read it wrong? or it was badged wrong some how? im not sure but please do look it up you will see what i'm talking about very sure that is a 7500.

    • @matthewbarnes7075
      @matthewbarnes7075  ปีที่แล้ว

      These trucks came with different body options. Badges say 5500 and VIN reads out a 5500, so there is no reason to believe that it would be a different model.
