  • Why women should avoid testosterone pellet injections // Like many women looking for safe treatment options for the symptoms of perimenopause and menopause, you may have stumbled upon pellet injections. This unsafe and harmful industry is rising quickly. In this video, I discuss how the pellet industry rose and why women find themselves using them. I also report on the serious side effects of pellet injections, and what other options are.

I have been getting testosterone pellets for three years now. They have not only saved my sexual life, but the pellets also significantly decrease the neuropathy in my hands and feet. I also do not struggle with brain fog anymore. I am able to have the energy to workout and put on muscle mass. My skin looks a lot younger, my hair is thick, and I feel great! Until I see more evidence of the harmful effects of the pellets, I plan on staying on them. I get the BIOTE pellets along with taking vitamin a,d,k and DIM

I am 43, not perimenopausal, just noticed a bit less libido and slightly lower mood when menstruating. I asked my Dr about testosterone. My gyn wanted me to use pellet Testosterone, she does it all the time with her patients and they do amazing, even to women +70 without previous HRT. I opted for transdermal and doing good, I think we cannot demonize any treatment, if you feel great with pellets, just continue with it😄

Just an update guys, I’m two weeks into my first Biote with progesterone, DIM and Vit ADK , like the lady above, and like her, I’m feeling so much better already. Libido, sleep: I actually feel rested when waking. But the biggest help I feel was improving my mental health. No one warned me about depression, etc. I was not in a good place, and for no apparent reason . God has blessed me and I have a wonderful life to be grateful for. Then I was feeling crappy FOR feeling crappy and not being grateful!! Like a viscous cycle .
I was becoming desperate to just feel like myself again. Thus far, me and my husband see significant improvement.
I pray we all find what works for us!!!

Fewer women would go the pellet or compounding route if more GYNs and family medicine physicians understood perimenopause and menopause, and would willingly prescribe HRT. The blame really lies with the medical industry.

She prefers to prescribe AndroGel at a lower dosage for women. Examples of why we should be careful with high doses of testosterone included balding or thinning of hair and enlargement of the clitoris as examples….yuck!

I had a bilateral oopherectomy and hysterectomy at 40 years old. I am now 56. I used bHRT (estradiol/testosterone/progesterone) for several years after my surgery, then moved to an island in the Caribbean where bHRT was not available. I tried to be without any hormone supplementation but suffered from every menopausal symptom that exists, so I tried FDA approved HRT (no testosterone, since this country doesn’t see the value in it for women). It was AWFUL! I tried cream, patches, and oral (although I don’t like that due to the high dosage of hormones needed since it must pass through the liver first). I turned to hormone pellets (estrogen and testosterone) and micronized progesterone at night. I now have my life back! I knew I was suffering but had no idea how badly I felt until I received pellet therapy. Now, your comments on the pellet delivery system being one that spikes then wanes is the exact opposite of all of the research studies I have read, and the 4 MD’s (not wellness clinic operators, but MD’s, like yourself) I consulted prior to my choosing the implants. Pellet therapy has been shown to be a SUPERIOR delivery system to oral and topical hormone therapy. Interesting how you dispute this research. Also, multiple studies have shown pellets PREVENT bone loss, NOT increase it! Where are you sighting your research from, Dr. Hirsch? They are also shown to have no increase in breast cancer risk, and a low incidence of side effects, if prescribed and monitored appropriately. I chose pellet therapy, particularly testosterone pellets, due to the evidence of all of the protective measures it provides women - brain health, heart health, breast health, libido - as well as managing the symptoms we experience. With so few choices for women’s health care in this country, how are women to manage their health effectively? Doctors don’t seem to want to apply research outside of the FDA and our government, when there is research to support these things, such as women being supplemented with testosterone; instead, they want to throw anti-depressants our way, and call it a day. I would be interested in hearing what studies you are referring to in this video, and what organizations those studies were funded by. Until then, I will continue to listen to the physicians who recommend this life saving and life changing treatment, and will continue to believe and support the research from people and organizations who don’t have a financial agenda in the ‘game’.

They’ve changed my life. Until modern medicine takes women seriously, we have to do our own research to treat ourselves. What’s the alternative to pellets. Answer NOTHING. Why? Because medicine and big pharma could give a shit about women. It’s also hard to take advice from a young doctor not experiencing any of our symptoms. You can research and read all you want but you’ll never get it until you turn 50.

I have been on a 10 year hormone journey and what led me to pellets was the fact that most doctors under dose women on hormones.. I felt like crap! I turned 42 and suddenly could not fall asleep was wide awake 3 straight days! Even Ambien did not put me to sleep.. I lost all body hair, and my pubic hair was disappearing in spots, I just could not function! I lost thousands of dollars going to doctor to doctor and all they offered me was drugs!!! I don’t need antidepressants or xanex or sleeping pills I needed hormones!!! I found out after a couple years I had a dermoyd cyst on my ovary which obviously sucked out all my testosterone.. I was given small doses of estrogen and topical testosterone I never felt well and out of desperation to feel better I got a pellet! Life changing!!! I felt immediately better, was able to play music again and had a wonderful 50th B day party! I did the pellets 5 times and only stopped because getting cut is no fun, going through that every 3 months. I joined a few hormone Facebook groups, found that a lot of women love Testosterone injections so I switched to that, been on them now for 3 years, still don’t feel as great as I did on pellets, but I’m sticking to it for now. NO way would I let my Estrogen level get down to 30, 40, or 50!!! I need mine between 250-350 to feel good. I’m talking about Estridial not total Estrogen. Doctors are still stuck on the lie estrogen causes cancer! Not true!.. I’m working now with a WIley protocol doctor and she herself is 47 looks amazing, and is on 28 milligrams twice a day of Estridial cream and 2 weeks out of the month she uses 900 mg of progesterone she’s vibrant healthy and happy! On No pharmaceutical drugs! I learned number 1 reference ranges mean nothing when your replacing hormones and 2 FDA approved means nothing, they approve drugs every day that kill people. Dr David rosensweet is a hormone doctor many years has lots of TH-cam videos, he doesn’t even do blood test he does the 24 hour urine.. dr Lindsey burksen is a wonderful doctor has lots of TH-cam videos. Dr Kathy Maupin amazing doctor been on pellets for over 20 years, she’s healthy, she says your total Testosterone means nothing it’s the free that matters because a lot of hormones you give your body gets bound by your SHBG.. there is so much that goes into hormone replacement and we’re all so different, my sweet spot is different then someone else’s. Some women need their Estridial 500 to feel great, sleep great etc.. I know women in my hormone groups they have a total Testosterone of 800 and these are females, no side effects they just feel amazing!! I’m very passionate about hormones because of what I went through and most doctors just don’t get it! They don’t get the high doses most of us need, they barely give enough to get rid of a hot flash let alone the many other symptoms of low hormones

Maybe your levels were too high . Was your doctor monitoring your hormone levels before and twice during before your next appt . Did they have you on a DIM supplement? If they didn’t do a few blood test to monitor it before and twice during . Then that could be why . It’s the same thing with any hormone replacement. You and your doctor have to monitor levels and symptoms too. If you not getting all that change doctors . Doctors still have to do with with any type hormone replacement . Not just pellets .

I previously felt crazy, was having many headaches, and now I am feeling better. But I can feel when they have been used up and seem to only last for about 4 to 6 months for me. The medical community completely abandoned women based on an obviously terrible statistical analysis that was quickly refuted by the correct statistics but doctors and many women still choose to believe the original BAD paper. The research wasn't bad, they way they pooled the data for analysis was bad. The fact that the medical community has a major problem with ignoring and minimizing women's pain, suffering, and quality of life. I have a PhD in biology. I'm firmly founded in the FDA approval process but when perimenapause hit and triggered a major health issue I was desperate and the doctors who only offered FDA approved treatments offered me nothing and sent me out the door. No one offered testosterone except one provider who did pellets. I decided to try it and it got me through a really really hard time. I did not have any of these issues you described. No side effects, no acne, no hair loss, no voice issue. Personally I'd be pretty cool with a larger clitoris, what could be bad about that? They've also put out a paper with over a million people and very few negative outcomes. I ultimately stopped, with no crash or barely noticable change, because I wanted to switch to a more immediate release formula so I could tell exactly how I responded instead of the pellets that had unknown onset and life. Women go to these places because they are desperate. There are LITERALLY no other menopause doctors within 150 miles other than the ones who does pellets and she was so much better than any alternative. I still haven't found a good alternative. I didn't like that she only offered the pellets and no other formulation. Everyone woman I know who into menopause age has been told by their doctor to suffer through because HRT causes cancer. Without exception. Until the gynecological community gets it's shit together and insists all gynecologist are at least given a freakin pamphlet with correct information on treatment options for menopause women will continue to go to bioidentical hormone clinics because they are listened to in those places. Personally I think the so more good than harm. More women feel better and cared for than have rare adverse problems. Are those rare cases of over doses of testosterone more problematic than those 10 million women going with no options except antidepressants and sleeping pills. The medical community lost trust with women with their handling of the data from the women's health study in 2003 and has done literally NOTHING to address it or regain it. Now we are discovering that there have been options to manage pain during in office procedures for decades but we were never offered! Gynecologists have a lot to answer for! I am so incredible glad I had a hysterectomy a year ago so I don't have to fight for pain management during procedures now that I know it is an option. Gynecologists have no one to blame but their own community for women seeking help elsewhere and not believing you when you tell them it isn't safe. Especially when the alternative offered is literally just go home and suffer because that's part of being a woman.

@@jasminemariedarling I take estrogen and progesterone because those are the hormones that are going up and down and causing symptoms during perimenopause. I take birth control pills but I need to find someone to manage my HRT because I'm getting hot flashes and symptoms despite the BC pills and it seems like I shouldn't be. It may be time to start weaning down to lower post menapausal doses but there really is no way to test for this. I literally cannot think when my estrogen is all over the place and low so I'm terrified to mess around with it as I'm hopefully starting a new job and kinda need to think! I am now off of the testosterone pellets and THANK GOD! I had horrible side effects (you listed most of them during this video.) Side effects that are permanent and affect my self esteem. My husband is and has always been very supportive so it’s (fortunately) not a huge issue but I can only imagine being a single woman who wants to have a mate and having acne, voice change, etc….! Not only the obvious side effects but internal physical effects as well! (Bone density, sky-rocketing hormones in your bloodstream!) PLEASE if anyone is reading this who is considering having “bio equivalent” hormone (testosterone) pellets placed under your skin… DON’T DO IT!

OMG! Thank you so much for posting this. I have been researching Peri menopause and it is so hard. I have tried pellets one time. I felt like a million bucks, but my libido was a tad overwhelming. I went to this weight loss clinic to get these pellets. My 6 weeks hormone test had my testosterone was at 322. I didn't want to do the pellets again, and at 3.5 months my hair started falling out at the root. Thankfully I have thicker hair BUT I lost about a quarter or more in 3 weeks. I am praying it grows back but it will take years since it was falling out at the root, not just breakage. I want to get hormone replacement cream and such but I have a hard time finding a doctor.

What I’m finally figuring out after having been on these for years is the intractable weight gain and masculinization of my overall demeanor. I’m a girly girl at heart and I feel so “manly” .. I don’t know how else to describe it.. not to mention the hair growth on my face, abdomen etc and the water retention. I thought I had to treat low t because I had a partial hysterectomy.. I’m going to stop and let nature take it’s course.. there is an increase in energy and definitely improved sec drive but it isn’t worth it.. for me. I’m just grateful I finally figured it out..

I'm 43 y/o w/ a hysterectomy and I still have ovaries. I'm premenopausal according to labs. My testosterone was at 5. I'm on my first round of pellets. Testosterone only due to low libido. I was desperate! My provider recommended an OB/GYN that did pellets and had many happy pts. Without much research ( this is not like me, but like I said I was desperate!) I got the pellets. What threw me off was that she said that this would help me lose weight. Not that I "might" experience these benefits, but that I "will". So far, I have acne, and have gained almost 10lbs in a month! It might be water weight, but diuretics aren't working. One positive is that I have that increase in energy that you mentioned. These pellets will still be active for another 3 mos. I'm hoping to see more positives, but as of now I wish I never got them, and don't plan on another round after watching this.

I disagree with saying your testosterone needs to be below 60… I have PCOS and I can not even function with my testosterone levels lower than about 120- 150 to 200 is where I feel the best. When my levels are lower I have really bad adrenal fatigue. My estrogen levels need to be around 40-60 for me to function. I am also on progesterone. I’m tired of doctors saying that you don’t need progesterone or testosterone once you have had a hysterectomy. I developed severe histamine intolerance due to estrogen dominance so I have to be on testosterone and progesterone to function. I do agree that pellets are awful I have tried them. The cream works so much better for me.

I know this a way late comment, but just stumbling upon this video. Some women respond terribly to testosterone pellets. I’ve been on testosterone pellets for 2 years straight. First six months I felt amazing, but after that I started noticing my hair thinning at my temples, then all my hair started to thin. Plus, I have a lot of chin hair growing now which I have never dealt with before taking T. My estrogen is sky high now at 200 which was never my norm before T. I am thinking that the testosterone is now converting into estrogen in my system. All the while my naturopath/hormone specialist is telling me my hormone numbers are perfect and to keep my testosterone levels at 150 which I think is far too high for me. Now I am going to go back to my obgyn to see if she can help me sort out this mess. Sharing my experience so other women don’t have to go through what I am going through.

I felt good the first two rounds libido wise. Not only am I still having voice issues but I am having awful anxiety, rapid heart rate and the feeling of fullness in my lower throat. I got my blood work done with my GYN after struggling with chronic fatigue, stubborn fat that won't budge despite increased workouts and watching my calories, and my libido is in the dirt. I was told my labs look great except that my testosterone level was at 17. I just went back to see my doc today and had the pellets put in. I'm pretty sure he said the dosage was 8.5. He said he calculated my dosage and asked me to keep a sheet that I fill out once a week to rate my symptoms so he can see how the pellets are working at this dosage. Not sure if I will continue this treatment after this round wears off simply because I just don't have it in me to care anymore about being "fixed" and the number of doctors pushing their agendas whether they are pro pellet or anti pellet is maddening. You would think all medical professionals could get on the same page instead of bashing each other.

Wow, watching this video and reading the comments....I'm so confused and slightly worried. I've been on the pellets for over a year now. The first night I started the pellets I slept like a baby. Couldn't believe it. Like 8 straight hours. Libido was amazing. I thought I was dead inside. But now my concerns are being validated here. I'm a singer. I've noticed my voice is lower and it's hard to hit the notes! Acne, extra hair everywhere except my head, expensive and throw on top 10 extra pounds. Dangit! I really thought it was a game changer. I will cancel my next appointment. I'm sad to see/feel my libido go away.

Were you on estrogen pellets or just testosterone? I'm a singer, too, but only on testosterone. My acne got much better, which I've had lifelong and now attribute to estrogen dominance. It could be your ratios are just imbalanced, not that the levels are too high.

Love your videos. Can you also make some videos for breast cancer women? Sadly I had a tiny stage 1 ER+ PR+ Invasive Ductal Carcinoma and am being told no estradiol and progesterone now even though I'm horribly post meno symptomatic & like many women I'm quickly losing bone so i want & need estrogen. Worst of all for post meno breast cancer women, they prescribe horrible drugs like SERMs or Aromotase Inhibitors that may reduce breast cancer recurrence but they are not holistic because they make post meno symptoms worse leaving women to either to suffer, "tough it out" or go rogue & throw caution to the wind by going using OTC or compounded hormones andconcoctions. I understand E4 Estetrol is FDA cleared. It also looks like Vag Estradiol is considered safe but won't help other parts of the body. Also, can you discuss things like phytoestrogens like soy, tofu and whether they are delicious or beneficial to breast cancer survivors? Lastly, how is it that hormones we've lived harmoniously with for 40 years could be the cause of breast cancer? Since the largest prevalence of breast cancer is 50-59 when progesterone has been gone for several years and estradiol winds down, is the cancer caused by persistent longterm estrogen dominance? Please help us breast cancer women. Please. Breast cancer is so prevalent in the US and the longterm management is absolutely lacking safe, effective post meno treatments for us.

It seems insane to put a pellet in a female without first finding her optimum levels first via a cream or injections. The poor woman may be stuck with very high levels for as long as the pellet lasts!
Then again, as you state, why use them at all when a woman can regulate and tweak her own optimal levels via cream or injections.

I have been on Biote hormone pellets for almost a year. I had a complete hysterectomy a year and a half ago (uterus, ovaries, tubes, cervix). I originally started with estrogen, progesterone & testosterone torches to keep me from going through menopause. I switched to pellets for convenience. I was prescribed progesterone pills, but couldn’t taker them because it immediately caused depression and lethargy.
Despite a very clean diet and 5 days of strength/cardio training per week ( I’m a certified health coach to boot), I’ve gained a ton of weight, have terrible indigestion, crazy body hair, and my voice has begun to lower and be scratchy. My doctor, whom I love, doesn’t seem to be concerned, but I am.
I want to stop the pellets and get my body back, but I’m nervous about menopause symptoms. Can I just not get my next injection or should I wean off by lowering my dose?

I started HRT biote, about two months ago. Low dose estradiol, and don’t know how much, but the testosterone looked very large,(much longer), than the estradiol. I was very sore for, what seemed to be forever, and now I’m having a literal pain in my butt! Certain muscle movements, like getting in the car(right cheek), sends a pain all around the injection site. Getting up, or bending over, also the stabbing pain. Symptoms went away,( hot flashes, night sweats, but still nothing on the sex drive part). Kinda hard to feel frisky when there’s a stabbing pain in your bottom. Dr tried talking me into putting it in the other cheek or my flank. I told him, no way would I do this again! I’m wondering if I now should find another doctor.

I have been getting Hormone insertion pellet therapy for over 10 years without any side effects. I go approximately every 4 months and get both Estradoil and Testosterone. My physician has her patient's get blood work completed 2 weeks before the appointment and the dose is then based on the individuals blood work levels. I also had a Total Hysterectomy at age 45 for severe endometriosis. I took oral hormone's for 10 years and felt terrible then switched to pellet therapy and it works for me. My physician is caution. Each patient must get yearly mammograms & pap smear. I would say it's like any medication. Some people have side effects and allergies to certain medications but others can take those medications without any side effects or an allergic reaction.

I got estrogen/testosterone pellet therapy for the 1st time back in March, I am 56. For the 1st month, the pellets were fine and my hot flashes and various other menopausal symptoms had diminished. Around the 2nd month, I noticed that I was getting really bad acne and really painful hormonal cystic acne along my jawline. I also started to notice acne on my back, chest and legs which I've never had in my life. I called the doctor and explained it to her but she brushed it off somewhat and told me to just take DIM supplements, which I did but it did not improve the acne, it actually got worse. I went back after about 6 weeks to get updated lab work and found out that my testosterone levels shot up to 223 ng/dl which is so extremely high for someone my age. They somewhat brushed it off again and told me it would wear off and to just use some OTC acne products. I was extremely upset, distressed, depressed and embarrassed to go anywhere because my skin was so inflamed, and I still have acne scars which I am trying to get rid of.
I also started having terrible abdominal pains which I did not understand and had no idea from where they were coming. The pain was so bad that I had to go to the emergency room because it scared me so much. I later found out after going to my regular Obgyn that I had fibroids. Now mind you, prior to the pellet therapy, I had no idea I had fibroids because I never had any symptoms or felt anything abnormal in my pelvic or abdominal area. It turns out that the estrogen from the pellet therapy caused major fibroid growth which is from what they feed. I write all of this to say that unfortunately I am finding this video way too late, but ladies do your homework and research before you make any decision to get pellet therapy. I will never get it again; I will probably just stick with the FDA HRT methods.

      I appreciate this honest share,
I've been hearing its hit and miss, you're either lucky or unlucky in hormone pellet roulette. Some have serious side effects like you're describing and others not so much. It all depends on our individual hormone levels and how we metabolize. It sounds like the initial surge or loading phase makes most feel like superwoman 😉 then it tapers off or crashes long before next injection. It sounds impossible to control, it's not like time released vitamins, lol. I want something I can modify based on my individual needs, affordable effective HRT please & Ty. Topical testosterone sounds safe and controllable. Thank you 4 sharing this info to help other women make informed decisions 😎😘

Pellets for 1 1/2 yrs-Initially felt fantastic and lost 20 lbs. The thrill is gone. Like others here I eat clean, workout consistently and yet gained close to 17 lbs following my last pellets-4 months ago. Not knowing what to do, my physician ordered a diuretic which did not help and thyroid tests (normal). Your suggestions are appreciated 😔
Unfortunately, I agreed to pellets again a month ago. After researching further and intuitively realizing the pellets are no longer for me, all I want is them out of me.
