      @@IRunThings I did the half . I must admit that the rain and fog did mess up the scenery, I live in the area and I hardly run on that side do to the lack of shade, even if it’s 60’ and sunny you’ll feel it , so I run mainly further north towards Union city ( lots of shade😁) …. I was told that Staten Island has a half marathon coming this fall … are heading out there too?

    An elite marathon runner, Alberto Mena, when he was 150 meters from the finish line, a marathon official diverted his course, making him lose his prize and, most valuable, his time to qualify for the Olympics. It was horrible.

    I ran this race yesterday (my first half) and I'm glad to hear someone's views on this, because I was thinking, do all races suck like this? Too bad you didn't also capture the traffic nightmare coming out of that area.

    • @IRunThings
      @IRunThings  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. Not all races suck. I am sorry this was your first. Many races in NYC are VERY interesting. And the traffic was horrendous going in and going out. I was stuck 25 mins on the ramp to get into the parking lot in the morning.

    Race registration is not cheap and there are certain expectations that go along with that. It is frustrating when a race is not organized especially in poor conditions. I almost registered for a local race that I have done a number of times but looked at the forecast first. It rained buckets here in CT all day. Congrats for persevering!

    • @IRunThings

      This one sold out in a month. They knew it was going to be a large event from the get go. It was also marketed as a marquee event... I just wish it had been run better. There's nothing you can do about the weather but the organization was very disjointed

    I have to agree. The course is disappointing. The highlight of a race in Jersey City should be to run along the waterfront and see the NYC skyline and Statue of Liberty. But we ran through the outside loop of the park away from the water. Also Jersey City only has 1 hill in the whole city. The rest is pancake flat. For some reason they decided to work that hill into the race course. Also agree the long walk at the end to get out the shoot and get food was super annoying. Newport Liberty Half Marathon is a better choice in my opinion.

    • @IRunThings
      @IRunThings  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Running through the cemetery wasn't fun either. 😕 I am sure there are other races with disappointing courses like this one, but this has to be top 5 in the top 50 disappointing courses in the country. If it had been better organized it would have been ok in my book though. And I 100% agree, Newport Liberty Half blows your mind compared to this, and you also run through the marina which is kind of cool

    I’m sorry this one didn’t go well. You’re my hero for not only pushing through all the rain but filming as well. The course didn’t look great. Did you not see your friends? I know you were looking forward to that.

    • @IRunThings
      @IRunThings  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. I didn't. We totally missed each other. We think they came out after I had already gone through where the boat is. In all honesty the course was so very narrow in that spot it's possible they missed me amongst so many runners. And I didn't know what they were wearing... or what color umbrella they had. So yeah. It's a shame.

    • @IRunThings
      @IRunThings  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      El problema es que para los maratonianos era un medio loop y la Calle estaba dividida en la mitad para que ellos pudieran volver... y luego es que los cajones salieron todos a la vez y eso esta fatal. Ha que esperar entre cada Cajon para que corra el aire

  • @largeeddie

    Great job toughing it out to the finish, Suzie! I guess running an inaugural event is something like going to opening night at the theater or to a restaurant that hasn't been reviewed yet. Or being the canary in the coal mine. And you at the end wandering from one parking garage to another looking for your car is eerily like a nightmare that I have all the time.😱It looks like you got in a quality training run at least, and you looked super badass in the black kit and sleeves. I would be very intimidated if you pulled up alongside me!

    • @IRunThings
      @IRunThings  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You wouldn't believe how many people look at me and think I run marathons in 3h30. When people talk about runners bodies, I MIGHT look the part, but my body has been such a letdown lately. I haven't had a good race since Brooklyn Half in May last year. Everything I've run for time in the last 12 months has been a huge disappointment.

    • @IRunThings
      @IRunThings  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So I guess what I am saying is CLEARLY no one should feel intimidated by me 😂😂😂

    • @largeeddie
      @largeeddie ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@IRunThings It's funny that it's the opposite for me. People see a portly grey-haired old man in flowered swim trunks and Walmart sneakers, and they're surprised--mortified even--that I'm faster than them. But I've been doing this for a long time and work pretty hard at it, and a lot of it is what you're born with. Anyway I'm sure you'll figure out what works best for you when you're running for time. Physically you're doing something pretty different from running at sightseeing pace at Disney and it might require a different pre-race approach. I know that you're determined and you'll get it.
