    I like the XFL distinguishing itself with interesting rules like this more than just trying to be EXTREEEEEME. I think having different tactics and types of plays available will draw more viewers and set themselves apart from just being NFL-lite which I think a lot of people see them as.

    • @stephenbeck7222

      A lot of the rules are natural developments from what AAF was doing in 2019 before going bankrupt. We don’t need most of them in the NFL but the standing kickoff and the 4th and 15 onside rule would be great additions.

    • @aguy6098
      @aguy6098 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Bro this rule is kinda cool though, imagine getting run down by a d line and having someone opposite you who can still complete a forward pass. It changes the way a defense has to prepare

      They absolutely have to distinguish themselves if they want to compete with the NFL. Otherwise they're just minor league NFL.

      They also have the 1/2/3 point plays instead of field goal. And they often return a punt

    • @ExileOnDaytonStreet
      @ExileOnDaytonStreet ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s a sliding scale between the XFL and Slamball: at a certain point it’s just making changes because someone thought it’d be cool, not because they’re actually fixing a problem in the sport.
      Take the 4th and whatever instead of an onside kick. Is the fact that onside kicks don’t work often ACTUALLY a problem? If so, why? Because comebacks can theoretically be easier (until someone goes UBER GAME THEORY and uses it to never have to play defense)? Does it make the game better if we make it easier for teams to come from behind or does it just make the game more arbitrary?
      The pitch clock in baseball is solving a problem. It’s going to make games quicker and easier to consume. Should we be just as welcoming if MLB randomly decides every manager gets one inning a game where runs count double? Or if they mandate a 260’ outfield fence because “it’s be more exciting with more homers”?

    The laws of association football (soccer) includes the following passage
    ‘If a defender starts holding an attacker outside the penalty area and continues holding inside the penalty area, the referee must award a penalty kick.’
    However, in this case I believe the players dramatic fall to the floor to get inside the penalty area has deceived the referee into giving a penalty. It was a free kick at most.

      There's a rule I'm trying to remember from my soccer days but I can't come up with the word for it. I'm pretty sure there is a rule that says, as a defender you can't come to a complete stop to block someone from the ball you have to always be making movement towards the ball when there's someone behind you. Not sure if it also applies to an attacker.

      All players have a right to their position on the field of play; being in the way of an opponent is not the same as moving into the way of an opponent.
      A player may shield the ball by taking a position between an opponent and the ball if the ball is within playing distance and the opponent is not held off with the arms or body. If the ball is within playing distance, the player may be fairly charged by an opponent.'

    I saw the Roughnecks play and it was really well designed in my opinion because it didn’t set up like a more “traditional” double pass play. I believe they had this rule in 2020 as well and on the few occasions it was used teams seemed to run plays just like the double passes in the NFL except they were able to throw the first one forwards. The Roughnecks play disguises it a lot better.

    In the soccer game, the attacking player had an advantage position so he stopped in a clear effort to shield from the defender which is allowed. The defender has to go around him, not pick him up and throw him. However, the foul occurred outside the box, so it should not have been a penalty, only a free kick, even if he allowed for advantage to see if the attacker doesn't fall over, etc.

    2) I don’t know if USL has VAR or not, but if it was me who was officiating, I’d definitely call an infraction of some sort and go to VAR to see if it was a pen. Clearly shouldn’t have been taken from the spot.
    3) The 17th at Sawgrass (where The Players is held every year) always has its hole cut on the last day of the tourney in a spot that encourages holes in one. That chip-in from the drop zone was pretty flukey and cool, though.

    I worked at a golf course for a couple years when I first got out of the service, and I will attest the to Slow Roll hole-in-ones 2-cup positioning. Now, the real hole-in-one was the third guy who did it with a single bounce straight in the cup! The first two were simply the location of the cup placement on the hole. Ask the fellow who put the cup where he did if he did it deliberately.

    It has been quite awhile since I refereed High School football, but more than one forward pass was legal under Federation rules as long as each pass was made from behind the line of scrimmage. In fact, a receiver could catch a forward pass beyond the LOS, retreat behind the LOS, and then throw a forward pass. From what I gather, you can no longer throw more than one forward pass, though.

  • @scottalford7159
    @scottalford7159 ปีที่แล้ว

    The 2 pass full will increase scoring . A forward pass one can release the DBs to tackle. When this rule fails to release them it makes running lanes and/or frees up the WR as we saw. Once that forward pass is used the defense has it in front of them.

  • @MezcalYPecar
    @MezcalYPecar ปีที่แล้ว

    Pk instead of free kick is crazy but the "trap" on the defender is legal and just a smart play on the striker's part to win a better position on the ball. Contact is legal as long as you're not holding and using your hands, or tackling to slow the opponent down when you have no chance of making a play on the ball.

  • @nachobroryan8824

  • @lenninho5113
    @lenninho5113 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For the soccer clip, contact like that where they’re tussling with each other is allowed and so is trapping your opponent from getting to the ball. Just don’t actually push them. And as for the penalty call, based on my previous sentence, the supposedly illegal contact was on or right before the goal line so I can see it being a penalty or not.

    For the Penalty in the soccer clip: if contact is initially made outside the penalty area, but it continues to happen (like in the clip, how the defender is holding the attacker as he tries to go forward), if the foul continues to happen into the penalty area, a penalty kick will be awarded.
    Pretty much, the attacker kept fighting to get position, referee played advantage until the foul happened inside the penalty area, awarded a PK.
    Imagine it's like in football if there's a defensive pass interference call, and contact is initially being made at the 15 yard line, but the WR keeps running while the Safety is holding his jersey, the WR almost catches the ball on the 2 yard line. The PI foul was happening from the 15 yard line to the 2 yard line, so where is it placed? With this rule in soccer, they essentially place it at the 2 yard line.

    I think the XFL will make it this time. The different rules are fun.

      It's a weekly show for the most part. He was late last week so we got 2 this week. But like a weekly recap of this stuff is great. If watch it on longer form to but whatever he wants to make I'm down for it lol.

    Honestly all passes that don't cross the line of scrimmage should be considered laterals, which sould then allow another pass to be thrown but would also mean if it is dropped it would be a fumble. Seems like a fair compromise and would actually give the defense some benefits.

    I am betting the Venn Diagram of Jomboy and NPR fans is pretty slim, but Mikaela Shifrin was hilarious on Wait Wait Don’t Tell Ma.

    Love ya jomboy! Love how you are doing 1994 sportscenter if the anchors had full say in what is shown on tv, but you had a horrible take when you said that maybe the golfer wouldn’t of celebrated his Ace if he would of known 2 other people were going to do it as well. Imo, a hole in one is worthy of whatever celebration you so chose and I’d bet you couldn’t care less how many other people do. An ace is an ace!!!

      if you're not seeing videos that you normally do, make sure to like the video and comment. This tells the algorithm to boost it in your feed because you're engaging with it.

    He went down in the box which does justify the PK. It's not when the tackle starts but where it finishes. More important, it's the spirit of the rule which is "Did the defender (through the penalty) prevent the player from a potential score?" In this case, he's all over the guy and when he tumbles, the ball is in the box. PK. It makes sense if you think about fairness. If it didn't exist, defenders would just tackle anyone who went into the box knowing they'd just get a free kick (which they can block). Kind of like why they have the offside rule....to prevent offenses from sitting in front of the goal and cherry picking. Just a rule for fairness.

    The soccer one 3:16 is definitely a foul; but it was not a penalty kick (🙅🏻‍♂️“pique”). The taller guy was probably angry because of the yellow card, not just the foul.
