It’s good to hear a birthday song 8 times in different styles when no one remembers my birthday. It’s like having 8 different person singing. Thx for the great video.
I always tried to understand the different styles. Now I have a better picture. But in General Jazz seems pretty much to be playful around the notes and give them your Personal stamp;-)
Wow this is really good! There’s many “in different styles” videos and they’re entertaining but this is the one I’d actually give to someone educationally. It’s accurate but listenable and full of life. My only wish would be for more styles to be included but I recognize the time effort attention to detail that was required to make even this. 🙏
OMG!!! This is just amazing! Thank you so much for this. Now when people tell me they don’t like jazz because it all sounds the same or they don’t know where to start I can show them this!
This is wonderful, you took a song that we’ve all heard hundreds of times and turned it into beautiful jazz renditions that are really enjoyable and fun to listen to.
This is awesome. I always had a hard time pinpointing how there were some kinds of jazz I disliked and some kinds I really enjoyed, so now I know how to be more specific!
You have done a great job. I simply can't stop looping the video, especially for the swing, bebop and bossa nova part (they are really so nice)~ This video definitely deserves more views!!!
One of the best videos I've ever seen! Thank you for taking the time to do this. I'm using it for homeschool; my girls will thoroughly understand the different styles of jazz now!
What a coincidence! The algorithm recommended this video on my birthday. Not to be a downer, but this was probably the worst birthday I've ever had; this video made it better. Well done!
This is amazing! You found yourself a new instant subscriber! I want to learn the distinctions between the different types of jazz and this helps paint a bit of a clearer picture. Thank you so much!
Seriously AMAZING!!! This kind of talent is way over the top !! As a keyboardist with fairly limited skills in the Jazz field(good but not great) ..this just got me sooo pumped!!! So at the tender age of 75...& a Greatgrmother ..its time to get in some serious practicing !!! I'm inspired..thx thx !!! PS ...now having said all that...I must brag a bit & say that I can give Elton John a run for his money !!! (Just sayin) Lol lol !!
So basically each style have the main rythm driven by a different instrument. Is that a fair assessment? (I take into account the tempo, time signature, the different instruments and orchestrations)
Yeah there are a few different angles to view it from. Another one is that the styles seemed to be a reaction against the most recent style in both size of the ensemble and degree of emphasis on improvisation vs arrangement/composition. Early Jazz - few players, greater emphasis on improvisation, not so much arrangement Swing - more players, more emphasis on arrangement, not so much improvisation Bebop - fewer players, greater emphasis on improvisation, not so much arrangement Cool - more players, more emphasis on arrangement, not so much improvisation (this one is less clear, because there were cool jazz groups that were smaller and didn't play /Gil Evans-style arrangements) Hard Bop - fewer players, greater emphasis on improvisation, not so much arrangement
Very good! I think it is extremely effective to use the same song to explain different genres / different styles. The only mistake is that the song “Happy birthday” is in 3/4, not in 4/4!!!
THIS IS EXACTLY WHY I 100% HATE THE "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU" THEME SONG THE MOST, IT'S LIKE I'M IN "HELL THE EVIL AFTERLIFE UNDERWORLD", YOU KNOW, "THAT EVIL AFTERLIFE UNDERWORLD WHERE "BAD PEOPLE" GO, AND IT'S REALLY "H-O-T (HOT)" ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Me too
Swing and hard bop were my favorites!
the drum fill on hard bop goes hard
💯
2:50 sounds like a chord from the harmonic series
Now I know I love bebop and hard bop.
Thx.
That hard bop...went pretty hard.
Lol love the boplicity references in cool jazz

This is really interesting. Thank you. It must have been a lot of work to arrange, record and edit all of that.
This is amazing! You found yourself a new instant subscriber! I want to learn the distinctions between the different types of jazz and this helps paint a bit of a clearer picture. Thank you so much!

Thanks Harry, I like RAG TIME best. I had a great birthday with family and a lot of friends, sorry. you missed it. Nancy Wigen
Gave you the 1000th like. Well deserved
sweet jazz
Yeah, had to skip a few… went straight from ragtime to early jazz (hot jazz) to swing. No sweet jazz…
You just gained yourself a new subscriber, thank you 🙂👍🏾
ok thanks! i just like the ones that end in “bop”
Really good content
Great!

Bday Hard bop slaps!!!
I liked swing jazz

Amazing!
Guy is genius 💪💯
Dang I was really hoping for a 14 minute modal sheets-of-sound deconstruction of "Happy Birthday" for the avant-garde subgenre.
LOL we got to the end of the school year and I was like “whew! Oh well no time for Ornette and late Trane 🤷♂️”
好有才華
Hard bop happy birthday sounded like an opening intro to an 80s or 70's American prime time TV detective series.
They are all nice, but the hard bop gave a nostalgic feeling, I love Jazz music but Jazz musicians even more.
Holy shit dude!
I love these interpretations! Btw ragtime is not jazz
@@desmond3828 Thanks! Correct; ragtime is pre-jazz. I included it only because it served the purpose of my music classes hearing the differences.
I mostly sampled bebop to hard bop
god i love bebop
How many instruments do you play?
You: Yes
Hey, there's one guy playing all brass, bass, drums and reeds (except the alto solo)?
🎷💪🎷💪🎷
How many instruments can you play?
😊😮
Swing, bebop, bossa nova
Free jazz missed!!
Deja Vu
Is that Babish on the drums?

it's all djazz
I REALLY, REALLY 100% HATE THAT "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU" THEME SONG THE MOST ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
And where is Smooth Jazz :D :D
Exactly! Bust out the soprano sax, synth bass, and drum machine!
No mind-bending fusion jazz version?! Disappointed. (just kidding-- very good interpretations!)
I steered clear of free jazz too… I didn’t have it in me by the end 😆
Free jazz please 😀
I used to think I don't like Jazz. Now I know I just don't like Bebop.
2:00 why they call this cool jazz? It sounds like funeral jazz.
