Just so you guys know, this lifestyle is very common in Cambodian communities (not just Long Beach). Gangs in the 90's/early 2000's were a big thing across the country. A lot of East Coast Cambodians, specifically Massachusetts (Lowell/Lynn) was pretty bad as well.
I got real fascinated with communism for a while and learned about the leaders. Pol Pot wasn't actually a communist, he just knew communism was popular in Southeast Asia so he adopted the rhetoric of communism to appeal to Cambodians. His actual goal was to revive the old Cambodian empire, and he thought that required killing a lot of Cambodians and Vietnamese. It's really crazy
I haven’t read anything regarding him not being a communist. I was told that He was heavily influenced and found out about Communism when he was in France. I researched that I have doned points out that he was most definitely a communist. His plan is one hundred percent, like Mao’s communist model. with the leap year or year zero. But it was their interception of year zero. China was armed and supporting the Khmer at this time. The aid increased when the Soviets and China got into their beef and picked sides, with Russia supporting the Viet Congs ( Vietnam) and The Khmer Rouge and China. I remember watching an old documentary years ago. They interviewed someone who was brother two or in his position, and he was under Pol Pot. He was what we consider the vice president. But the man was saying it was the same statement about bringing the Khmer people back to the golden years and getting rid of anything and anything body. They murdered 90 percent of the intellectuals, government workers, teachers, scholars, artists, musicians, etc. Besides the killing of Vietnamese in Cambodia, they also tried to cleanse other ethnic groups and killed Buddhist monks, destroyed monasteries, and prohibited any religion. My grandma’s uncle was in the Cambodian Military before the Khmer Rouge took off. My grandma doesn't know what happened to him. But I’m a hundred percent sure he was killed. They make sure to wipe out the army and arm forces first. My grandma witnessed a lot of the events at that time.
I'm Mexican from Texas, and my wife is Khmer. She has relatives in long Beach. Is it still bad tensions with Mexicans and Khmer people? We want to go out there soon but hearing this makes me hesitate because I don't want to put her life and my child's life in danger.
