    WAY back when I was a kid my girlfriend's father was a shrimper fisherman. I went out shrimping with them in 1971 in Biscayne Bay. Let me tell you, it's really hard work. Every 15 mins or so all night long you bring up the nets and sort on the tray. There was only my friends dad on that boat and us 2 girls. Never worked so hard in my life. I have a lot of respect for her Dad he worked as shrimper for years and supported 4 children and had a nice little house in the Grove. I learned a lot that night so long ago

    I was a shrimper for Steve's Shrimp in 1999. I *love* Biscayne Bay at night! So sad to see them go.

    One Captain singlehandedly maneuvering his single prop boat while holding on to the bow line of the one he towed in. Small intentional moves, no whiskey throttle. For those who are not familiar with single props and trailing rudder, they cannot be steered going backwards, you can turn in one direction by using engine torque by going in and out of gear and then for the other direction using the rudder once kicked in forward gear. A maneuver which takes years of practice.

    I had a contact lens lab in Coral Gables. There was a guy that delivered me fresh shrimp in the morning at my lab. The shrimp were on ice and still alive. Those days are over.

    People just won't learn that if they're going to let the current bring them to the dock, move in PAST THE CORNER and it be so much easier...

      My anxiety be through the roof! I can’t understand why some folks get their bow close to the dock and freeze up…just stop trying.

    I’d say 85% of the knuckleheads at Blackpoint have no business driving or owning a boat. No docking skills, no driving skills and too big a checkbook!

    No commentary, thank God! Your videos are excellent but sometimes they are WAY too commentary heavy! Just a little feedback! Probably not the first time you’ve heard that! You do a great job otherwise, and enough of the crocodile already. We like boats!

    Why did all the shrimp boats leave black point? I notice their all gone. Why did they leave and where are they going? I can't find any information on why they left. The county kicked them out? Years ago all the crabbers and shrimpers got kicked out of cardsound.

    • @margotconway8605
      @margotconway8605 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think there are any shrimp left in Biscayne Bay. The shrimpers left Dinner Key in Coconut Grove years ago for same reason

      @margotconway8605 Theirs still plenty of shrimp in Biscayne bay we had one of the best shrimp runs ive seen in years last year., it seems all the shrimpers got kicked out of Miami dade because in MiamiDade everyone has to pay to have your boat docked now. I don't think these commercial fisherman were paying to have their boats docked. The county made improvements to the commercial docks then the shrimpers got kicked out. Im suspecting the county wanted to charge them money to have their boats docked.I know some of them trailer their smaller private shrimp boats to the boat ramps in Miami when shrimp run in the winter. I'm just wondering who's going to sell shrimp to the bait shops now.

    All the damn shrimp get shipped in frozen from Vietnam and South America these days. I remember living in Florida and buying fresh shrimp on the side of the road for $5.00 a pound. And it was the best.

      These 'horrible looking' boats are all over our coastlines . They are working boats, no one cares how it looks while they are bringing in seafood. Get out of your pristine plastic wrapped package bubble. Oh, and cattle farms and trucks look pretty rough, too.
