I love how Schopenhauer throws people down stairs, yet reminds us to be kind to others.

In Germany, uni education used to be so flexible that you could choose to attend whatever lectures you like. Students could even attend lectures at whatever uni they wanted, not necessarily the one they're registered with. It's possibly one of the reasons science and philosophy developed so much in 19th century Germany. Kinda cool!

Hegel was a celebrity in his day. His classes were packed. That lady he threw down the stairs was prolly talking about how great Hegel was. Id throw her down the stairs too.

I have yet to meet someone who can convince me that physical life in this world is not a prison sentence for our souls or spirits or conciousness or whatever you want to call it

Tried to come up with a cool comment but just gave up half way. XD
I like how his concept has some resemblance to Buddhism.

Didn’t that woman set him up because she heard he was wealthy and was intending to sue him. I’ve heard this on other Schopenhauer videos

His view of happiness and pain are pretty much opposite of the Catholic view.

Yeah, I noticed that, too. And at 0:34 when it says Berlin 1920. Wrong century. 😉 Still, I like this video for how concise and entertaining it is. 👍

@@PhilosophyToons haha makes sense now! Yeah, for the life of me, I can never keep my centuries straight either. When I hear 19th century I immediately think 1900's but my instincts are always wrong haha

In 1920 Schopenhauer was already dead.
