  • We recently had the pleasure of visiting the quaint settlement of Loerie in the Eastern Cape, and I have to say, it was a truly memorable experience. Our first stop was at the local church, where we marvelled at the beautiful old buildings. Next up was a visit to the town station, which had been totally destroyed. Despite this, I was thrilled to discover a functional railway turntable and I couldn't resist giving it a spin myself. It was a unique and exciting experience that added to the charm of the place. However, the real highlight of our visit was undoubtedly the beautiful Loerie Dam. Even though the water levels were low, the beauty of the dam was still breathtaking. The peacefulness and tranquillity of the area made it a perfect spot for a picnic or simply to take in the stunning scenery. Overall, Loerie is a hidden gem that is well worth a visit for anyone looking to escape the hustle-and-bustle of city life and experience the incredible natural beauty of the Eastern Cape. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #easterncape #loerie #loeriedam

South Africa one of the most beautiful countries in the entire world. The majestic mountain ranges, roaring rivers, the sounds of various animals during the night, the amazing weather, braais, sunshine, rugby and Chevrolet. There is only one - South Africa and we do not want to spoil this with politics. Thank you for making me believe in South Africa again. I have been living in New Zealand for the last 35 years but let me make no bones about it I have never left South Africa. I left for the sake of my children for a better future ans opportunities for them and they make use of that big time. She's in my heart forever. She is still my home will always be.

We appreciate you watching our videos of all the beautiful places we get to visit in South Africa! 😍🇿🇦 While there's no denying that our country is facing a truckload of challenges, the beauty which remains is our focus on every single trip we take. And there is so much left of it! We're so happy to share it with you as you're watching from so far away! 🚙🤩

The game reserve looks beautiful, makes one want to get a nice table outside, order a pot of coffee and just ontspan! I think that blesbok was protecting one or more females hidden in the bushes.?! Looks more like a hyena than a leopard. Her-hena? He-hena? Hoo knows! That is so special, to see Nyala. They are truly gorgeous.Loerie station....a real ghost station! So amazing that the locomotive turning table can still move. What a beautiful surprise is the dam. Truly awesome.

It was really beautiful at Pabala, especially the drive down to the Bush Camp, we saw a lot of animals for just a few minutes, that's always fantastic! 🦌🏕️ The blesbok was all alone as far as we could see, but the vegetation was rather dense, so the harem could've been hiding in them bushes somewhere! We've always loved seeing nyala in the north of Kruger, so to see them here was the cherry on top for us. Oh, and then there was the dam too! 🤩🌊

@@DustBugsTravel those bokkies are very good at hiding. Once in Karoopark we went on a game drive and saw a male koedoe protecting his wife who was hidden . She was so well camouflaged I couldn't see her till the guide pointed her out

Oh wow you found another turn table, in the same area and this one works!!!!. It is really beautiful over there, even in a drought. love your drone footage. The Eastern Cape is for me such a true reflection of Africa

      @DustBugsTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +2

I was completely taken with the turntable and just had to give it a whirl! 😁🚂 Such a typical example of what they call a green drought. The greenery has always fooled us into thinking that there is an abundance of water while not really the case. And I know how much you love them green landscapes! 🌳💚 The Eastern Cape scenery had us in absolute awe! 🚙🤩

I lived in Loerie in 1988 to 1989, and then again 1991 to 1994. This was during my primary school years. I attended the primary school you show in the video (close to the station). If memory serves me right, were were at one stage only around 30 kids in the entire school (the grade 6 and 7 pupils used to share a common classroom!). You will not believe what the station looked like back then. I knew two of the station masters personally - Mr Haywood, followed by Mr Goosen. Neither of the two allowed anyone to walk on the grass surrounding the station - to give you an idea of how beautiful, and different, it was back then. Our house was the middle of the three houses close to the turntable.
Close to Loerie town was a PPC cement quarry. The "koekepanne" used to run roughly parallel with the turntable, carrying the stone that had been mined from the quarry to the tracks, where the trains used to collect and transport to PE and surrounds.
You are correct about the church - the older building was initially the church, and later turned into the current church's hall (die kerksaal). This also happens to be the congregation that started the annual "Nartjiefees". Back then it was Ds. Kobie Bekker who served there and lived in the parsonage with his family. Perhaps my fondest memory is that of the Apple Train and the annual Great Train Race. This was an important annual boost for the local economy of Loerie, and great fun times because of all sorts of stalls that used to sell everything you can think of (stalls were erected on the school's sports field, also in a pristine condition back then).

The narrow gauge Apple Express Train used to make special passenger trips from P.E. to Loerie on Saturdays and this was a wonderful outing. There was even an annual race called the Great Train Race where teams would run in relays to race the train from P.E. to Loerie. This was in the 80's. I heard there were rumours of re instating the Apple Express, but looking at Loerie station it doesn't look as if this has happened. Thank you for another great video❤️❤️

Hi you two! Thank you for this wonderful trip! The Pabala seems to be a welcoming place, nothing lacking there. Beautiful views from the bush camp, green all around and, if you have Sonia as spotter, wildlife too! Loerie is such a spacious and peaceful area, one could really consider moving there (working off line?). I wasn't quite surprised that you found the old station, because that is what you do, but the second railway
    turntable ?! Gosh!
The nice gravel road to the dam between with all the views and the greenery was great. Your drone view of the dam and the views really made my day. Thanks again!
I am ready for the next trip.
    Keep safe!

Pabala is a cool place which we never knew existed and we're so happy we discovered! The Bush Camp is a paradise for any camper, I could certainly spend a few comfy days in one of those family tents with springbok grazing around my own private deck! 🏕️🦌 My gamespotter's eyes were particularly sharp that day with a lot of wildlife spotted in a matter of minutes. I can only imagine if one spends a few days there! Accommodation may be in short supply in Loerie, but I see that as the only obstacle. I'll go and set up my desk at that dam every single day when the weather allows it, it is spectacularly beautiful there! 🤩🌊 I so wished I could pack up the turntable and bring it home to play with, I just love that thing! Thank you for spending part of your Saturday at Loerie with the two of us! 🚙😁

Hi guys amazing video it is so hard for me to explain to friends and family
That you can just drive along the road and go to a game farm with fantastic facilities millionaire views game walking through the campsite loved the sign local is lekker and the little bakie parked outside only in South Africa. Loerie had a sleepy vibe to me but also plenty of interesting things getting to know when the church was built 60s style and agree that the hall was the previous church most of the houses looked like railway housing glad to see they are in use Well Justin another turntable I've seen on TV they were moved by hand and you proved it every time I'm always surprised how these little town so different thanks for the mini safari and tour cheerio till the next one

You seemed to have enjoyed our visit to Loerie a lot and I'm so happy to hear that! 🚙😁 When I read your comments, I often realise that, despite all those things which aren't so great here, our country is still a fantastic place. 😍🇿🇦 That we take a mini-safari (love that!) for granted and seeing incredible wildlife mere metres away from our vehicle, is something many folks in other countries can't even grasp. 😍🦌 I was actually surprised that I could turn the turntable so easily, I didn't expect that. It was very cool! 🚂🚙

Morning, nice to see my area from someone else's view point, the Kouga Dam feeds the Loerie dam, where it in turn fits cleaned and sent to PE for daily use. Also the train use to run as the Apple train. Would collect fruit from the Langkloof but unfortunately it no longer runs. Maintenance! 😢 And yes you were correct the Church hall was 1st the actual Church. It was a very big Church but many have moved from the area to the likes of Jeffreys Bay and surrounds. Anyhow safe travels and enjoy the rest of the exploration.

Oei mijn eerdere reactie is weggevallen … 🤔. Nou hopelijk blijft deze wel staan. Lekkere aflevering is dit. Sonia the gamespotter = spot on ! Leuk Sonja’s beelden van Curtis the train(rail)spotter. Zoals bijna King Charles ooit zei:”It’s amazing what women do behind your back” 😅
