  • As we drove through Patensie we came upon the old station and I couldn't help but notice the many people standing around. The old railway turntable which turned the locomotives around was amazing. We then made our way to the Ripple Hill Hotel and I was immediately struck by its old-world charm and character. It is currently being restored and it was clear that a lot of care and attention to detail was being put into the process. As I walked through the hotel, I couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia for a bygone era. The elegance in the place was truly captivating and it was clear that it had a rich history and story to tell. Overall, our visit to Patensie was a wonderful experience and I'm grateful for the opportunity to have explored this beautiful town and its hidden gems, such as the Ripple Hill Hotel. It was a wonderful experience. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #easterncape #patensie #ripplehillhotel

    Hi you two! Thank you for picking me up to Patensie. It seems to be quite a bustling farming town. When I saw the "PadKos" name I expected a kind of farm stall based shop -- what a surprise! The Ripple Hill is a gem! I was of course not surprised that you tracked down an old station! The turn-around was something unknown to me and very interesting.
    The green primary school and sport grounds was somehow unexpected. So also the the beautiful green surrounds and trees among the houses with mountains in the background.
    This is what makes your videos so special. One would usually drive through a town like this, appreciate the services on the main street and travel on, missing out on the absolute beauty by not even looking around.
    Thank you for this wonderful outing in Patensie. I'll be waiting patiently for the next trip.
    Keep safe!

      Padkos was a great stop and I was rather surprised at what a large place it is with so many places to sit and have a bite and a drink. They have great items on display there too and I think one could easily forget about time when you wander around there. It was our first turntable too and I loved it! I so wish I could've seen an actual loco being turned around. 🤩🚂 Some of those properties have beautiful, expansive views of the citrus orchards surrounding the town, it was really beautiful to see! 🌳🍋🍊 To hear how you enjoy our videos, make making them so worthwhile, thank you! 🚙😁

    This brings back good memories of my time in PE. We made lots of day trips out to places like Patensie, Hanky, up the Sundays River. All very scenic and beautiful. Love the chessboard out in the garden at Padkos. So interesting to see the old station with the turntable. The treestump house is so cute. So much history in these little towns!

      @DustBugsTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree with you. The scenery and natural beauty are so typical of the Eastern Cape and absolutely gorgeous. Although I was born in the province, I don't get to visit that often anymore, so it was good to explore a part of it I've never been to before this trip. You clearly have many times! 😁🚙 It was our first railway turntable and we thought it a great find! 🚂

    Hi guys where cattle go to lie down another gem. Thanks to Sonia I'm starting to recognise the camel thorn trees. The DRF church was well maintained with lovely grounds. My afrikaans is coming back I recognised pad kos as street food great place the Lexington sign reminds me of the big bill boards. I used to smoke Texan non filter known as cowboy coffin nails lol .the whole area looks beautiful with the views of the citrus fields and mountains. Loved the little orange shack. The station siding was intriguing so busy and so many boxcars they must have had a narrow gauge line like the apple express? The turning point was great I've seen some before on TV. The Ripple hotel had a real 40s vibe and the music set it off .the property's all seemed quite big .spotless grounds and buildings in the primary school was a credit to them .the DRF church with the roof to the ground stunning and along with a views wonderful scenery. Thanks for taking me along cheerio till the next one

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The cattle sure have a great place to lie down! 😁🐂 The area is full of camelthorn trees and they somehow always bring us comfort, thorns and all! 🌳 It's great to hear you're sharpening up on your Afrikaans, you'll always hear it here and there in our videos! You took me far back with your cowboy coffin nails! 🚬 I was more of a 🐪 man myself back in the day, but thankfully no more! The narrow-gauge line branched off here for the transportation of citrus to PE, you're spot on! I just knew you were going to notice the church roof down to the ground, I always think back to your comment when we saw the first one like that! 💒 We're so happy to be sharing our travels with you, thank you for your company! 🚙👌🏻

Well done to the both of you. AMAZING

      That turntable was super cool to find, we've never seen one before! 😁🚂 You live in a province with so much natural beauty and I often forget that since we live so far away. I was born there, so it will always have a special place in my heart. I'm so glad you enjoyed the drive through Patensie with us. I often think how it's possible that we did road trips in the past, but saw nothing. Now I understand what a real road trip is like. 🛣 You're so close, go check out the area and explore.

      Thank you so much for your caring comment. It's tough on the road sometimes to keep up with everything and I fell really far behind with comments and such this time around, so had to scramble to get up to date! I am still busy with emails and the other platforms, it's a never-ending wonderful thing and I still have to get my day job done! 🚙🤩 Thank you for your concern though! 😊 We're very nuuskierig, so much so that we just keep on looking for new things to find and we're loving every moment! And of course with Sonia by my side, there will always be a ton of giggles along the way! 🥰 I reminded her this morning of the pancakes, but she's in catch-up mode for now too. Perhaps this weekend, we'll see! 🤞🏻 Both churches were indeed stunning and so were the grounds with all the wonderful greenery, we always enjoy seeing that! 💒🌳 We'll see you soon again!
