@TheFiremansavage This siren was located right outside of Cedar Rapids in suburb called Marion, IA. It is part of the DAEC Nuclear warning system which is located in Palo, Iowa.
@crazywarriorman No I do feel its necessary however not necessary every month. Especially in the dead of winter when tornadoes are less likely to occur.
I live in Missouri in St. Charles county and they test our Whelen 2800's on the first monday of every month, but we don't get many tornado warnings either. I guess they are just doing their job.
Nate J Yes it was moved by City hall. Marion put down a lot of money for that building and someone at Linn county EMA figured that it should be moved to the building.
@cmackla1 You do know the system isn't just for severe weather, right? It's mainly for warning incase the nuclear plant in Palo has a melt down. Which can happen at any time.
It is annoying. And the past 5 months when they have tested them its been clear blue skies. They test them the 1st Wednesday of every month. Next one is Wed Nov 2nd, 2011.
well those stupid sirens went off today for they annoying monthly test....and guess what we broke our streak of if being done on a clear sunny day...it was cloudy and raining today
Marion IL has 2001s that were supposed EOWS-408s
the sound resonating after each word on the voice is probably the screen vibrating or the leaves doing the same
Probably the screen.

There for daec power plant that can go anytime and the silent test twice a week
The reason they test monthly is to ensure they will function in the event of a real emergency. FEMA recommends testing at least once a month.
