    I wonder why they call you shaky.. :-?

    Wow, thanks so much. I know its literally 12 years later, but I recently bought an older model Gaggia, so all the OPV mods are for the new models. Color me stupid when I realized I had bought a spring set for a part I didn't have! I don't have the plastic OPV piece you can simply take apart and put the spring in, instead I have what you had in the video.
    Now I need to make a makeshift pressure gauge so I can tell if my turning amounted to anything. The coffee definitely smoothed out, though I have no real idea what level of bars its at right now.

    Camera man appears to be on the technical part of a mountain bike trail while recording this.

    Thanks for the video. About 1,5 turns took me from a bit over 12bar to a bit under 9.5bar.
    The extraction is way smoother, less bitter and presents more complexity of the beans/roast.

    Thank you, this was so needed and straightforward! BTW, in the UK, my Gaggia it's a 17mm socket needed ❤

    So my pressure was too weak, was getting about 100mls for 30secs, turned OPV clockwise, now have less pressure... Do some older Gaggia Classics have the OPV the other way round? eg inti-clockwise increases pressure?

    Did a similar mod but with the gauge on the Portofilter, much better crema with a courser grind. Took pressure down from 13bar to 9bar. Thanks, easy to do and well worth 20 minutes work.

    I had to watch this during an earthquake to see it properly.

    Many thanks for the video. Had previously stripped and rebuilt coffee machine twice thinking I had a limescale problem (well at least learned how to do that quickly now!). The OPV adjustment did the trick.

    Then is 90 degrees? I dont have pressure gauge.

    Do you notice a big difference in your brewing after adjusting the OPV? What pressure do you have it set to now?

    Great vid ! I put a gauge in the front of mine, my vid is on here too. Did you find to get 9 bars of pressure the opv took a few fine adjustments, but it's worth it great coffee. In the end I turned my around 90 degrees anti clockwise. Keep the vids up.

    how many degrees u need to tutn for lowering 1 bar?

    • @crazydubwise
      @crazydubwise 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I understand factory pressure is 14 bars. Our goal is 9

    Keep in mind this is for OLDER gaggias. Circa 2000 made in Italy.

    AHA! moment - despite superfine grind and a good tamping, the water flow on my Carezza is practically atomising the brew by the time it's exiting the group head - we're talking a shot-worth in 6-8 seconds - too fast!! I am off to give this a go, wish me luck sans pressure gauge, but 90 degrees at a time should see a steady move to the ideal pressure. Thanks heaps!

    I've actually done a portafilter test also and there is a fraction of a difference as the gaggia classic's boiler is very small and pressure builds up quick. No this steam valve is a classic just drilled out and tapped for the gauge connection & fitting. It seems the classic is a little different in the US to AU as your opv is a 5mm and we have 6mm. Interesting.

    Jesus man, what direction is more pressure less pressure? Why wouldn't you mention that? Remove this! Counter clockwise lower. Clockwise higher.

    • @kalo93406
      @kalo93406 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pretty clear that he mentions that he was 'A bar to high" and turned counterclockwise to get adjustment lower.

  • @afonic

    Nice video with instructions, however a portafilter gauge would be much easier to create. You just need to remove the double spout and screw 2 things on it.
    Also, when we say "9 bar" we mean the pressure during brewing. Brewing has a flow of water coming out that we don't calculate with this method. So when your gauge says 10 bar, it will probably give you the right 9 bar when brewing. Setting it to 9 might be a bit too low.

      LMAO. Love it when people show the extent of their ignorance and stupidity while trying to insult the uploader, 10 years after it was posted, regurgitating the same criticism that is 80% of the already existing comments.
