    Gaggia is one of my backup machines. With pid it can pull really nice espresso shots quite consistently. That extra $150 or so for pid kit is worth every penny. But it is not easy to install. So be very careful and plan for backup in advance.

    I installed shades PID too for the same reasons. Since I wanted to learn from a reference point of view , why certain changes in my input caused expected results in my cup. I learned a LOT…! Now, the ability to control these inputs for particular roasts is so important to how much I enjoy my coffee. I would only recommend modding the GCPro if the person wants to take their passion to another level. It is very worth it.

    I just installed my shades of coffee PID on my 10 year old gaggia. I cant believe I waited 10 years for this. I just couldnt stand the steaming milk anymore. Hi Goran, and thank to Adrian for PID kit. 😁😁😁
    And yes, everyone who are a little bit serious about coffee should get one. Night and day. First good grinder, then PID and you have years of enjoyment. More expensive machines are just more beautiful, usually come with PID, more convenient (especially for heavier use) but cost double or triple (or more). IMHO upgraded Gaggia is the best entry level machine.

    I installed a PID on my Gaggia and love it to bits! Was so easy to install. Was a little worried because of your original video but found that the instructions from shades of coffee were actually really easy to follow with no issues.
    The only issue I am having is with the steam. The steam pressure is great but it still doesn’t last that long for me and if I brew another espresso and turn the steam back on I don’t have any pressure although it should full temp. I need to run some water through the steam wand first before it will go back to full steam pressure. Not sure why this is. Anyone else having issues with this ?

    • @motopasky
      @motopasky 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The boiler needs to be refilled. Once all the water has converted into steam and you've used it up, the boiler is empty.

    Hello! I was considering buying the GCP + PID + OPV, but after surfing reddit a common complaint is that you get tired of it quickly because of its small boiler. I make around 4 espressos daily on my crappy Delonghi Dedica, exclusively lattes since the shots pulled from this machine is just... terrible. I want to invest in a good machine that can pull consistent shots, and doesn't take forever to prepare. I've been considering an HX machine such as the MaraX or DB like the Elizabeth.
    I recall you mentioning that the machine performs like a $1.5k machine. My question is, if you had the budget, would you have invested in a machine like the MaraX instead of this modded Gaggia?

    I would argue that temp surfing does NOT work. Especially after installing a PID and watching how much the temp plummets under load. It’s might help. But it doesn’t really help. You just blast your shot with heat and then it gets too cold and things end up super inconsistent and unbalanced.
