RL fan here..but have allways been interested in Welsh club rugby...working-class and comunity game simiular to my sport RL...what ever happened to Pontypool...seem to remember they were a top club at one time
Those drop goals by goldsworrhy and Bishop were amazing. Look at the difference in pace between then and the pedestrian crap we have now. Even the scrums take 5 minutes now.
Remember this game very well. It seemed that the WRU were against us back in 1983 making us go to Aberavon for this game. The Bish should have gone on the Lions tour in 1983 no question.
As Max Boyce said - I know cos I was there... Good to see that the WRU were unbiased - Aberavon is clearly half way between Pontypool and Bridgend! None the less the place was packed with Pooler fans - the M4 was red white and black. BBC commentary is against Pooler - the final is even worse. These were great days to grow up and watch the Pooler
Rob, I have asked this question time and time again especially since Pontypridd RFC recently installed Neil Jenkins as it's President but cannot get a reply and am now banned from social media for asking. My seemingly simple and innocent question is this, "Why can't the likes of Ponty and Pooler club together their resources, unite and send a big two-fingered goodbye to the Wruination of our great valley's clubs?"
I used to remember the likes of Ponty and Pooler playing regular cross-border competition in the form of Bath and Bristol etc It weren't professional then but show me a more fiercely contest than Bath v Pooler or Ponty v Brizzle and I will show you a liar who hasn't the foggiest doggy doo-doo about anything, never mind rugby!
The WRUINATION have destroyed valley's rugby! As I write, Pontypridd fans are endeavouring to raise £100,000 to ensure that their club continue to the end of the season and beyond.
Thanks for posting this great old game! It was fun seeing Eddie Butler play after hearing his superb commentary for years.
Talbot Athletic packed to the rafters unlike today in 2019. Well done WRU!
Great to see the late and great Eddie Butler, as a player

The Wruination have always had it in for valley's clubs like Pooler, Ebbw, Ponty etc

Bishop, what a genius. Bit greedy, but a genius

What? Aberavon is further west than Bridgend. Pontypool is in Gwent.
Surely, Bridgend had a home advantage here. Not that it made much difference.
