Power hungry. Arrogant and disappointing. Jim Bolger knew how to manage the coalition and kept it stable, possibly 4th-term worthy but Shipley was thirsty for power and was frustrated by the moderates. She threatened her way in and within months the cabinet had imploded and the coalition in tatters. National might've won a 4th-term but Jenny Shipley ensured they wouldn't and some might say, she got what she deserved. A demotion.
Just wanted to drop a line. Random American finding myself utterly fascinated by Cold War-era New Zealand political minutiae brought on by playing your wonderful nation in a Cold War era simulation where this lady was PM and she SUCKED even in a VIDEO GAME haha. Anyway, thank you for your thoughts, as I find these perspectives fascinating. One thing is apparent to me, I will say: We are a world apart, and many many years removed from the time of Jenny Shipley (I don't recall the 90s TV being so...fuzzy...do you?), but our consternations then and now with our respective political leaders know NO END whatsoever. Cheers!
@@BrandonS-lk2qc Considering I was 6 by the end of the 90's I don't have an enormous memory bank from "back then" but no I don't remember how low the definition was... Showing my 30 years of age. Yes, politics in NZ has shifted dramatically and I'm not actually sure where it's going...
Feels like you’re still getting scripted politician responses in this one, unlike Boldger and some of the other ones where they are very candid and authentic
Hmmm I had huge personal issues with both Helen & Jenny. At the time of their leaderships' I was a young woman who wanted to be proud of my country having women leaders but in my view at the time neither of them "acted" as woman. Hindsight - I'm finding these interviews interesting
This was a tired argument made by feminists that when they don’t see a woman acting n the way they want they disparage them as being a man. It started with the left using this straw man meme is used to attack Thatcher. The achievements or damage politicians bring to the people has actually much less to do with their sex and everything to do with their motives, personality, their politics.
Jenny had some good ideas and values but I can’t get past her approach to leadership, power dressing and body language. Get the sense she faked it until she made it. The chickens roosted when she was sued and lost as a director…
They probably would've with Bolger and the moderate approach he took not to mention his ability to work well with NZF and somehow keep Winnie in line.. Jenny was the problem.
Since the 90's NZ has been in a nose dive. Thank you ladies
always been a pack of sheep shaggers lol
Recent leadership issues highlight the quality of it.
9:42 yeah that was "patently a lie"
This Prime Minister, first term lead her Government, to its biggest loss of that time, thoughts credible.

One of the most hated PMs, by both sides of the House.
But Shevwas great, just ask Her 😂

I think this is just how she carries herself.

What do you mean by "acted" as a woman. How does one act as a woman

she looks better now, she was quite a porky pie as PM
what a gross comment

Interesting history. A pity National didn't get a 4th term in 1999 - they did a good job with the economy.
Really? We are still paying for their leaky buildings Dilbert!
The Gift that kept on giving, from electricity reforms to the Environment, They created a huge negative legacy.
