Thank you for including my clip at 2:59 Ashley:).
Just for context it was 3AM and I was taking my dad to the airport, doing about 50mph in a national speed limit. The truck dazzled me initially and then because it was a long corner the car overtaking the truck looked like it was just further back around the bend rather than in our lane. Was far too close for comfort and just goes to show you have to always be alert and expecting the worst no matter how quiet the roads seem to be.

Watching that just gave me deja vu. I had the exact same incident one night about 11pm. A car and lorry coming round a long bend on the unlit A57 going past Worksop, and until the car lights swiped past right in front of my eyes, I hadn't a clue the car was in my lane overtaking, thinking the car was behind the lorry all the time. Didn't even have any time to react. Scary.

    • @mydogeatspuke
      @mydogeatspuke 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Not everyone wants to turn, some want to pull over just after the turn. Speed is a good indicator too. Always best to just wait IMHO, you're rarely waiting to pull out for more than a minute even on a really busy road.

Sometimes a left indicator can also mean you want to pull over immediately after the turn, or another turn immediately after that one (weird roads in little villages up north), but you're supposed to give everyone fair warning of your intent and waiting until after the first turn could get you rear ended. I would never pull out in front of an oncoming vehicle unless they'd started the turn and nobody was behind them anyway, but I'm very risk averse. I've had people pull out in front of me when indicating though, and they're always very loud and aggressive afterwards. Takes a certain type I think.

The scooter didn't massively affect the cam car in that instance, but we've all seen how little some people look at the situation around them at roundabouts, could have easily been hit from behind. I probably would've beeped also, just a little "Hey, be careful". I didn't hear any road rage or comments beyond that, so I think that is the point the cam car was trying to get across.

Not really a non event, had my full bike license for 30 years, I don’t think it was a pointless hoot, it was alerting the rider to a really dumb move. It also had an ‘L’ plate if I’m not mistaken, so the rider may not have been that experienced, not sure on the rules these days, but previously people had ‘grandfather rights’ to ride with learner plates on bikes. Generally though, it looked like a kid with no road sense on a bike, the sort that cause car based motorists to have a bad opinion/perception of motorcyclists.
The short beep in that clip was justified (as an ‘hey I’m here too’), but probably did nothing to educate the rider.

For the clip at 6:40, while the horn was unnecessary I can understand his frustration. Your trying to exit onto a busy roundabout, and you have a vulnerable road user on a scooter, making life ten times harder by cutting in front of you. I’m not against filtering, but the scooter should’ve held back behind the cammer and set up a clear position for the roundabout.

8:06 This is the driving I might do in a racing game...where I can't die if I go off.
6:46 Is either triggered or didn't see the scooter and blamed the scooter rider for that. A lot of drivers can't handle scooters or cyclists wizzing past while they're stuck in traffic with others riding unneccesarily big SUVs.

@@tin2001 It's hard to see. I assumed the 'conditions' Ashley means are dark + dirt road. Even on asphalt I wouldn't drive this fast here, you have no indication of haw sharp or when there is a corner. Some kind of reflective marker on the edges of the road like there are in (woods) in the Netherlands, Germany and other countries would maybe make this speed safely doable.

Regarding that scooter, the cammer obviously took it to heart too much, but the scooter was a bit silly IMO.
When I filter to a roundabout like that I wait behind the front vehicle as their focus is to the right, so the chances are they won't see me as their head is facing the other way. The second vehicle in the queue has no excuse, especially if you position yourself in the lane behind that first vehicle (though they still sometimes get the hump and try to compete).

6:34 My guess is that the cammer was looking to the right without glancing left, before moving off.
We obviously cannot know if he saw the scooter roll up before or after he was beginning to accelerate, but the honk seemed more like a warning/reaction to them swerving in front of them. The scooter guy needs to learn to wait his turn in a queue, or he will end up being minced under an 18-wheeler.
Messing about at a junction as difficult as a roundabout, is only going to get someone hurt.

In London my pet peeve is people who lack lane discipline. Once with my dad and had a Mercedes driver on the right lane after the traffic lights and past a right hand bend just vere into our lane without indication to turn left ahead. W-why? Why not be in the left lane beforehand than being in the right lane then having to push in quickly upsetting other road users?
This and peoples inpatients to wait in a queue. Had a guy behind me overtake cars to turn right out a road as the cars in front of me were indicating left. Because of where he was positioned it made it difficult for a van to turn in the road. I then put my right indicator on and that prevented other people behind him doing the same thing. Just be patient your not saving 30 minutes to get to your destination as if that would make a difference to anything 🤦

6.50 I understand why bikes filter, but to what is essentially a junction onto a roundabout shouldn't be filtered to, the driver of the car was very likely looking right for a gap, went to go and suddenly theres a scooter there. Didn't have as much oomph off the line as most bikes do that filter to the front of lights etc and it's got L plates which suggests it's not the most experienced rider.
I think if an accident happened pulling out the insurance would side with the car, scooter should have held back

i think we have all missed the point of the HORN on a car.. It is our only means of WARNING people/ cyclist/motorcyclists that we are there or around them .. It was originally mean as a warning.. I believe they use it on the continent before they overtake ..beep then overtake.. i had it done to me in Italy .. It seemed normal after i figured out why they were beeping at me. It does make you more aware and makes you pay attention.
I was coming up behind a cyclist who without looking behind proceeded to pull out and overtake another cyclist.. I gave him a beep ..and all i got was a barrage of abuse... I cannot warn him any other way other then to use my HORN as that is the only thing I have to warn people.. No point shouting as they won't hear me.

    Hello Ashley.
Ive a question about what should you do if your trying to merge onto a dual carraigeway or motorway and others havent moved into the fast lane?
As this happened to me 2 twice last week while trying to join the A2 in Belfast N'Ireland. The A2 has very short merging area of less than 30 yards. It was late evening so traffic was steady but not busy. Anyway i came down the on ramp and got up to a speed of between 40 and 50 mphs. But on both occasions there was half a dozen cars matching roughly my speed in the slow lane following each other closely. There was know one trying to over take them in the fast lane and not one of them moved over to help me be able to merge safely.
Now as i said the merge area is very short on the A2 of less than 30 yards. But it does go into the hardshoulder.
So would it have been okay for me to use the hardshoulder to give me extra room to merge? Or would i have had to stop or nearly come to a complete stop before the hard shoulder started? In order to let these arrigant drivers by and so i could merge.
Hope that half makes sense and thanks in advance for any correspondence.
    Ben

I'm approaching an exit and I'm thinking what are you going to do? 1 come in behind me and exit or 2 try and cut in font of me and exit. No just cruised past me going slightly faster. few minutes later she is driving off into the distance still in middle lane and indicator flashing. Maybe It's the cars I have driven but they always make a clicking sound when indicators are on and a flashing light on the dash. Do Merc not have this feature?

I’m a biker and riding around Liverpool is ridiculous, the amount of people who drive using phones and just don’t pay attention is becoming far too many. Love these vids you are helping to make people safe and maybe have saved at least one life I reckon with all the viewers. I got thinking could we possibly see some more severe crashes in a special edition? Saying as I think it helps even your viewers to have a reminder of the consequences of actions. Could put a warning with the video. No need for gore, but just showing how one small mistake can involve big forces, a potentially serious injury. Head-on collisions? Maybe even feature ones where peds have died but cut out before showing any of it. The rollover today was kind of that way, but maybe a little turned up? I think seeing the potential consequences every so often gets through to the subconscious that driving is not to taken lightly, thousands killed or seriously injured per year in Uk from motor vehicles.

Speed kills. But it is not only the speed at which people drive that is the problem: the speed of the music they are listening to also has a hand in their fate. An Israeli researcher says drivers who listen to fast music in their cars may have more than twice as many accidents as those listening to slower tracks
I appreciate different studies will possibly draw different conclusions.
