My cat loved the rain. He'd go out and play in puddles. Then he'd come in all excited, chattering away. I'd take a towel and dry him up, and once he was dry and warm, he'd go right back out and jump in another puddle.

Cats 100% don't need to be bathed, unless the can't or won't do it themselves. And since they like to be clean, often if they can't, they'll tolerate you doing it pretty well. If your cat doesn't like to be washed, don't wash him. I washed my cat exactly once before she lost her tongue at 16. She got skunked and she yelled the whole time, but once she figured out that the tomato juice wasn't dangerous, she cooperated. After she lost her tongue she couldn't bathe herself and while she didn't love a bath, she sat in the sink as long as it took and didn't complain unless she got cold.
I'm sure he loves all that brushing as well during and after the bath. Kind of a massage and gentle scrub to the skin. And it lulls him to sleep. So...…. relaxing.... zzzzzzzz……..
My Siamese cats are the same way! As a kid, I used to have a cat known as a Turkish Van. They LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the water. A few times I came home from school to discover the cat swimming in the fish tank. He would also go swimming in the swimming pool with me. I wish we had TH-cam back then.
