    I use my Gopro in water often during warm weather, I would like to see a similar door that is water proof. Maybe a sliding access that is water proof while the slider is closed so we wouldn't have to open the entire door to charge. Good video as always.

    I just got the media mod so I can easily use a regular mic if I want to. Nice to know this option exists for people who want a slimmer/lighter profile.

    Keep in mind that with this modified battery/charging door on, it won't be waterproof! I say keep the original door and get a charging base, that can charge 2-3 batterys at a time, separate from the camera.

    I bought the GoPro 8 door about 30 seconds after I watched your video on it. I love it - I do not use my GP nearly as much as you, but that door has saved my fingernails ... I am sticking with my 8 for awhile, but if I upgrade to a 9 the door is the first upgrade I’ll make.

    I have and use the Ulanzi battery doors for the Hero 8 and 9, but I wish that they were more waterproof than they are. For timelapses that will absolutely get rained on , they just don't cut it when you need to connect an external power source. I picked up the 3BR Powersports cage that allows the Hero 8 to operate completely waterproof and will get one for the Hero 9 when they are back in stock. I think Ulanzi could address this deficiency without the use of a cage by adding edge seals and a connector with a gasket.

    GoPro 5 charging door sucks too. It does not have legs, so it needs an external casing to mount. That external casing prevents the charging door from opening. I had to remove the door. Then I lost the water proof feature. I thought GoPro 9 would not have that problem, but hey, they crated another problem. Your 3rd party battery door solves the convenience problem but it destroys the water proof feature as well. Is there any 3rd party product which has waterproof or splash proof feature?

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends. If I've got it on the front of my bike for longer-term ride, I tend to use a combo K-Edge or Barfly mount (combo Garmin/GoPro). However, for almost all the shots you saw in this video facing me, I use a simple Gooseneck mount on a clamp, works great with the Hero 9: amzn.to/3lHdNta - There's cheaper 3rd party variants of this, which I also use. Generally speaking the GoPro branded one is the most stiff (but also shorter), whereas the 3rd party ones are longer and more flexible. So depends a bit on use case.

      @@BrianRouse Yeah, the battery change is a slight bummer, but I think them managing to keep the same battery for four generations is a fair tradeoff. Most companies don't do that. So I'll give them a pass for that aspect (plus, the battery life is indeed longer by a fair bit).

    Just an FYI... GoPro makes their own replaceable door with USB pass through that claims to have a special seal to keep the camera water resistant and also has a cable retention clip to keep the cord looped around and clipped in place to keep it from coming out accidentally.
    I came across this video while researching action cameras and in making a list of stuff to order for a possible hero 9 purchase I happened to be checking out the official accessories in their web store and came across their own official door... so I’m guessing it must be new if you don’t make any mention of it in this video?

    The Fact that you cannot record 4 to 5 hours on Hero 9 because of the heating issues that might kill off your go pro after 40 to 60 minutes

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Every action cam on the market has heating limitations at the high end (namely, 60FPS+). But if you've got airflow moving over it, or, if you reduce frame rates, there's no real-world issue. If you're trying to recording 4K/60FPS while in a static environment for 4-5hrs, a Gopro really isn't the right camera choice.

    I never have to remove the battery to take out the microSD card, just use a fingernail to press the microSD card and it pops right up to be taken out. I rather keep the battery in the camera when working tithe the microSD card, easier to get it in the slot without dropping it in the battery compartment.
    But as of today, GoPro has their own waterproof pass through door. But I guess you know that already. ;-)
