  • Valve treats their customers pretty good, but they also tend to let game companies do whatever they want on Steam. That bugs me.

The one of these that pissed me off the most was Squenix adding a mandatory account sign-in to Final Fantasy 7.
Oh no no, not the remake, the original version from 1997. You know, the version that was released before the idea of account sign-ins and game clients were even a thing. Squenix instantly joined my PC blacklist after that.

the clicking on dev name sending your to publisher thing might be:
1.the dev team didnt made a page of their own so they linked it to publisher
2.the dev team linked it wrong and the link is to the publisher's page

It really does come across that Valve is so confident in Steam's pseudo-monopoly when it comes to PC gaming that it just doesn't feel the need to bother with quality control for the products it carries or even pay much attention to its (admittedly meager) competition; so long as most of its enormous userbase doesn't go anywhere - and it won't, because no other gaming client can begin to offer as much as it does - it can just cruise along with minimal effort in perpetuity. The final part of the video, of course, drives that particular point home pretty succinctly.
That all said, like you I'm generally pretty fond of Steam, but it is kind of frustrating to know that the complaints you DO have about a service you frequent will likely never be addressed and there's just not a whole lot you can do about it as a PC gamer. I wonder if Guinness would be willing to officially certify the overall Steam community as "World's Largest Support Group".

Oh no. World's largest support group goes to Nintendo fans. Those guys are weird...

    Mandatory requirements are annoying.
This is basically the worst way to advertise or promote your games on different platforms.
I have PVZGW2 and NFS Payback on Origin that I bought 'em long ago, and I don't need to use Steam or something to play the game.
Soooo yeah, they messed up big time

Tbh yeah clicking the dev shouldn't take you to the publisher. I really could not give a crap about them LMAO

The moment I see Denuvo, Origin, or whatever the hell Uplay is called now, I'm out. Steam is already, by design, a layer of DRM. I willfully submit to it without complaint because Steam's service and infrastructure is by and large excellent. However, I will not put up with additional layer of DRM that often only serves to inconvenience honest customers.

    • @ASkeleton

I kinda have to tolerate denuvo to an extent, otherwise I'd be passing on most Capcom games and Sonic Mania. Beyond that, it's zero tolerance these days

All this DRM junk is why I try to own most of my games through GOG. I download the game and I can play it offline. Simple as that.

    • @ASkeleton

Much respect to GOG for that

As a linux user those 3rd party stores are just dead space, but I can't really complain at least you get to "own" those games on steam and I get to play 10's of thousands+ of steam games flawlessly. Also you should be able to request on a refund for these games that fundamentally change or require new registration. What if you were banned from those services? Game would be unplayable.

Steam has so much trash porn and lots of n4z1 imagery games now
I have a project for indie games to know which ones are good, underrated and to keep myself knowing and sharing about'em
but i cant do it for old games because i cant sort by year of release
    a simple search function
steam is reactive to its problems and active to create new shit

Epic sucks, but origin is one of the worst launchers I've tried.

For real, I plan on never buying a hentai/porn game on steam- for the reasons you stated, plus- like dude, not that I endorse it but stuff thats about 100x higher quality than the vast majority of slop on steam is out there for free on literally any site that allows it...
Also- The Steam client is kinda just... crappy? Especially since the redesign and about 200% more so once I swapped to linux- I've noticed just how buggy and trash the client itself really is- from the image/video uploader just not working half the time, to steam NEVER updating my friendslist notifications when I get messages besides the instant they get sent (then absolutely 0 notifs if I dont instantly open them, leading to many many many missed messages/conversations with friends) to my bloody steam window just not allowing itself to be moved off the current spot it's stuck in- not to mention every tab but the library + store seemingly breaking for unknown reasons with no fix besides restarting or coming back after leaving it alone for awhile...
Like damn bro, you'd think with them being a damn near monopoly on PC gaming and quite literally billions of dollars of profits being raked in yearly they'd have a working platform, but I guess not.

The rocket league problem isn't steam problem tho, if the devs wanted, they could just remove the game for any steam owner, almost all of your complains aren't steam's fault

  • @flatterkatz

screw rocket league. It was a ripoff of an UT2k4 mod (Carball) anyway

1:42 yeah, buying from steam 'unaware' is a nightmare nowadays! 3rd party logins & EULAs gtfo.
2:50 I'll defend this 'search by dev' feature. Decently useful for searching sega's catalog too I guess.
3:24 *yes.* Steam kowtowing 2 Epic Megalames makes me angrier than knowing that people use 2hu wallpapers unironically.

@@ASkeleton hmm... well, maybe i'm just remembering incorrectly. i could've sworn it at least came to steam later, partially because i was more inclined to play games on pc at the time but i started with rocket league on ps4. the game beinng listed on steam later (despite already having been on pc) would explain my confusion...!
