LYRICS:
In the villa of Ormen
in the villa of Ormen
Stands a solitary candle
In the centre of it all
in the centre of it all
Your eyes
On the day of execution
on the day of execution
Only women kneel and smile
ah-ah
ah-ah
At the centre of it all
at the centre of it all
Your eyes
your eyes
In the villa of Ormen
in the villa of Ormen
Stands a solitary candle
at the centre of it all
at the centre of it all
Your eyes
your eyes
Something happened on the day he died
Spirit rose a metre and stepped aside
Somebody else took his place and bravely cried
I’m a blackstar
I’m a blackstar
How many times does an angel fall?
How many people lie instead of talking tall?
He trod on sacred ground, he cried loud-into-the-crowd
I’m a blackstar
I’m a blackstar
I’m not a gangster
I can’t answer why
(I’m a blackstar)
Just go with me
(I’m not a filmstar)
I’m-a take you home
(I’m a blackstar)
Take your passport and shoes
(I’m not a popstar)
And your sedatives, boo
(I’m a blackstar)
You’re a flash in the pan
(I’m not a marvel star)
I’m the great I am
(I’m a blackstar)
I’m a blackstar, way up, oh-honey-I’ve-got-game
I see right so white, so open-heart it’s plain
I want eagles in my daydreams, diamonds in my eyes
I’m a blackstar
I’m a blackstar
Something happened on the day he died
Spirit rose a metre and stepped aside
Somebody else took his place, and bravely cried
I’m a blackstar
I’m a star star
I’m a blackstar
(I)can’t answer why
(I’m not a gangster)
But I can tell you how
(I’m not a flam star)
We were born upside-down
(I’m a star star)
Born the wrong way ‘round
(I’m not a white star)
I’m a blackstar
I’m not a gangster
I’m a blackstar
I’m a blackstarI’m not a pornstar, I’m not a wandering star
I’m a blackstar
I’m a blackstar
In the villa of Ormen stands a solitary candle
At the centre of it all
your eyes
On the day of execution
only women kneel and smile
At the centre of it all
your eyes
your eyes
As representatives of Stardust The David Bowie Tribute Band, we approve and DB would be so honored and proud of your interpretation as we are of you. Best wishes and big hugs.
Bowie and Amanda Palmer
Very soothing yet eerie cover, wonderfully done. We miss you Starman.
Magical and very beautiful. This is a very fitting tribute for Bowie. The whispering gives it a great creep factor.
Love have you've changed everything, but changed nothing. Utterly terrific.
WOW Amanda!! This is absolutely brilliant and gorgeous! As a hardcore Bowie fan for the past 35 years and heartbroken by his sudden passing..... I know that David would have absolutely loved your version!! Thank you for this...
Hearing this live gave me goosebumps. Amazing
I always come back to this álbum cause I love Amanda's voice, it's so intense and emblematic. Love u woman
Who would have the audacity, the nerve to cover Blackstar so soon after it was released, so soon after Bowie's untimely passing? Amanda & Co., that's who. I was simply awed by your arrangement, your sensitivity with the material and your live performance with Kronos this past Friday night, April 1, in tribute to David at Radio City Music Hall. In my book, it was the clear takeaway of the evening. Both your live performance, and album performances are simply brilliant. I don't understand people's need to always make comparisons. Art, by definition whether created for sight, sound or both defies ranking. Bowie's Blackstar is great and will never be equaled. Amanda, your effort with the above-named artists is great and will never be equaled as well. Two great performances, and simply that.
Absolutely gorgeous version of this song!
That was beautiful- Hope that Bowie's son, Duncan and his daughter, Lexi like this version. RIP Bowie!
Amanda you never cease to amaze me! Thanks to you, Jherek and Anna for such a mesmerizing tribute.
Thank you soooooo much! This is the shit that should be performed in the Grammy´s!! This is what it sounds like to love bowie for real. The love for and artistic piece is real love, and you made a wonderful soundtrack for real and beautiful grief.
Thanks' for posting this - very brave of Amanda. Great hearing the song deconstructed in such a beautiful way, I'm sure Bowie would have loved it. Watch and learn Lady Gaga!
Came back for another fresh listen after you did it at Radio City Hall. The Bowie original moves me to tears, but so does your version. Your songs often make me feel like my skull is open, my brain and soul are the colour of gold and they rise up into another dimension. This really does that! A true work of beauty Amanda
Stunningly beautiful. Thank you so much Amanda and Jehrek.
+Ian Walker and Anna Calvi
Thank you so much for this. You, Amanda, are a Blackstar, yourself... may you inspire even half as many as Bowie did, if not more. We all need to let ourselves shine ...
What a tribute ! Just fab. Thank you Amanda.
OH wooooow!!! thanks for sharing this with me Kim it is quite beautiful
I've said it on your FB page, but this is truly stunning. I'm pretty sure Mr Bowie would like it.
This is your best work yet. I knew it was in there. So moving. Thank you
This is so beautiful- thank you.
A staggering achievement of soulful and heartily beauty.
Thank you for sharing this
At the center of it all... THIS IS EXTRAORDINARILY BEAUTIFUL. Bravissime.

I´m sure Bowie would love the theatrical take on this. It´s outstanding.
Fantastic, thanks.
We are witnessing magic.
crazy good!
Extraordinary
Beautiful. No more words. :'(
Breathtaking
Beautiful tribute.
maravilla!!!!!
I know its almost sacrilegious to say this, but I like this even better than Bowie's original and ya know what? I think he would have too! :) Stunning! Amazing! Amanda, this is genius! thank you, thank you, thank you!
+katrine evarista Not sacrilegious at all. Totally understandable.
oh my god, Anna Calvi doing Blackstar :o
My soul burst open.
A blessing.
Even if painfull (but isn't pain one of the many limbs of The Superlative Beauty? ...I wonder.).

pure ear-candy! delicious!
This whole album is such an inspiring experience. The energy and the feel is so real. The covers for the singles are great, too. Cassandra's silhouettes are so simple and bold, and i tried my best to make something different with the same composition and vibe. I hope you like it. I link my tumblr post in the link if you are interested.

Amazing! Well done, Amanda. I feel you actually did this better than Bowie. I certainly prefer it.
+GalahadGregory never in this universe
+GalahadGregory it's actually Amanda and Anna Calvi...
+GalahadGregory Why is it necessary to compare the two? They're two different, and amazing artists.
watch your mouth! this is awesome but it's not Bowie.
who the fuck is that one down vote? like srsly
+MrDoglightning They slipped
YOU GOT THE LYRICS WRONG YOU HIPPIES!
Blackstar hear me
pudre amanda palme yo me yamo asi
Come on, the singer on this song is Anna Calvi. She should be listed in the title. People seem to be confused that Amanda commissioned this piece for the EP, but did not sing on this particular one. (Maybe a little on the backing vocals?) Give credit where it is due.
+Emily Cheeger
it says featuring Anna Calvi...
+Emily Cheeger Anna Calvi is the higher of the two voices. Amanda Palmer does the middle piece of the song as the lead vocalist.
Uh… they're both singing. Anna did the high-pitched vocals on the right, Amanda does the lower ones on the left. Then they switch during the center: Amanda sings solo “something happened on the day he died…”, with Anna doing the high back-ups, until she takes the main role for the first time with “I'm a blackstar, way up high, honey, I got game”. Amanda commissioned the string arrangements and sang most of the vocals for the entire EP, that's why she's the main artist for all of it and Anna is the feature in this song.
Estremecedor.
