It's not "protecting" the offender not to reveal their name. These problems aren't solved by vigilantes convicting each other in public interviews. They're solved by producers and directors holding bad actors accountable, and suffering consequences when they don't.
Its her story to tell after all, and she told how she experienced it, without naming names. And if you don't want to be talked about in regard to your bad behavior, behave better toward the people you work with. Whether you are an A-list actor, public figure, or an ordinary co-worker in a restaurant.
I agree with you, but with a caveat: if producers and directors _don’t_ hold these people accountable, one could argue that not outing them to the public contributes to the systemic protection of bad apples who are allowed a free pass because they sell well. That said, what she mentioned hints at that there were consequences, at least on that particular set, and anyway I wouldn’t blame her for not sharing: it’s her story - and it sounds like a really negative experience - and she’s the one who could face social, work-related, and even legal consequences for talking. I think there could be an ethical incentive to speaking out, but I don’t know that it applies in this case, and anyway it doesn’t even come close to superseding her right to say no more than she’s comfortable saying.
If the person changed their ways right afterwards, that has to be respected. Everyone makes mistakes, hardly anyone gets that level of accountability and indictment.
"It's not "protecting" the offender not to reveal their name." - the use of double negatives here is so awful, and the grasp of basic English so poor that this limp-wristed turd has earnt an extra roll of toilet papier... xx
She’s not being classy…she’s being responsibly transparent - advocating as much as she can, while protecting herself legally. It was NEVER her responsibility to be accountable for someone else’s shit and unprofessional behaviour…that’s on the director, producers, and actor themselves. Faulting her continually while proclaiming not to is tone-deaf.
I dunno about responsible…she’s creating suspicion about 15 other actors. What if the internet picks, out the wrong one and start harassing the wrong one or ruining his/her reputation? That’s on her then…honesty is always better…just speak up and say the name.
I read elsewhere that Ferguson suggested the encounter happened at some point in the last decade. The most likely A-lister from that timeframe is Hugh Grant whom she worked with in Florence Foster Jenkins (2016). Grant was notorious for creating onset friction and having meltdowns that were well documented in 2004, 2009, 2016 and again in 2023. He once stated "I’m a nasty piece of work and people should know that.” He also admitted to making costars cry in the past and that many actresses despised working with him including Julia Roberts, Julianne Moore, Rachel Weisz and Drew Barrymore.

My kids and I met The Rock and Dany Garcia at an XFL vendor event. We were all standing in the dugout of Choctaw Stadium (baseball stadium converted to football for the XFL, now UFL). As Dany started to address the small crowd of about 50 people, my daughter and I were standing near the top of the dugout near her, and Dwayne walked up to us. I shook his hand and said, ‘Hello Mr. Johnson’. He shook my hand but largely ignored me and went right up to my daughter, who was 9 at the time and a massive Rock fan. Dany started to speak, and The Rock spoke directly to my daughter in a hushed tone as to not speak over Dany, and said to my daughter, “I have three daughters.” He then listed all their ages and what they liked to do for fun and the sports they played. Then he said, “And they’re all beautiful just like you.” It was a cool moment that my daughter won’t ever forget. I personally think that it was not Dwayne Johnson.
Right? I had to turn on closed captions to understand most of what he was saying. That happens with other TH-cam videos though. I think it's a cultural thing now to speak to quickly and rush through words. I'm sure I do it too especially if on camera. I likely need speech therapy or training to get me to slow down and enunciate when speaking.
She was on press tour with both Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Fassbender to promote the respective movies back then, lots of interviews on TH-cam to check out. I'm not a body language expert but based on their interactions I'd say it's neither Jake nor Michael, all lovely exchanges between the actors. You'd think if you dislike your co-star it'd show in those scenarios. I get it they're actors and probably bound by contract to go on promotion together but still...no such videos with Hugh Grant to be seen. Not saying it's him, just an observation.
She prob doesn't want it to become a whole viral thing by her revealing the person, especially since she got the result that she wanted after taking control of the situation. Aside from all that, I didn't realize she had been in so many movies, so this story proved two points: It's worth it to find your voice and stand up to someone no matter how powerful they are, and she actually has a long, impressive resume.
And yet it has gone 'viral' precisely because she lacked the courage to name the person. Meanwhile, all her other previous co-stars are being accused online because of her stupidity.
i dont think revealing individuals who act like assholes is “un-classy” what a weird opinion to have while actively “investigating” who that individual is lol
I feel you're misunderstanding what he said. He said Rebecca, despite her experience with this person and despite that maybe (I agree with you on this one) they deserve to be called out, she decided to remain as professional as possible and not reveal the name to make them a target of hate, even if some of us feel they would deserve it. At the end of the day is to see what good does it do. So it is not that "revealing the name is not having class" but rather not revealing it is "taking the high road approach" sort of, and shows conduct and manners. He is saying it, literally in the video: "I understand having class and being respectful not revealing the name but she is also protecting them". So he is recognizing her well mannered professional conduct, while at the same time pointing out how this doesn't really help the industry.

It's a personal social interaction that can/will happen anywhere, that doesn't mean it's part of the activity you're taking part in. What you're saying is "X situation happened while I was doing X job, so it must be part of it then". It's ridiculous.

@@YearRoundHibernater You're right, except all of Rebecca's scenes were filmed with Hugh Grant. I don't think she had any scenes with Meryl Streep. Any call sheet that Rebecca would have been on, Hugh Grant would have been at the top of the list.
that's reading way into it, she was talking about standing up against bad behaviour. It happens on movie sets, I remember listening to Bobby Lee on the JRE podcast talking about a producer who had the crew look at him and tell him he is a bad actor. It was apparently on one of his first films. Then there are the Christian bale story and the Tom cruise story where shouting at an individual is understandable. But that is part of the experience of a movie or TV show's production, it can happen.
To me she didn’t sound like she meant that she knew they’d changed. It sounded like that “but one never knows” that you have to say to not come off as pessimistic, bitter, or hostile in a business that involves putting up with a bunch of less-than-stellar characters _and_ not alienating the “third chance”, “everyone is trying their best” crowd among perspective audiences. Not to mention, potentially, as a precaution, were the name to come out (as was said in the video, the list isn’t that long) and were there to be talks of defamation, especially since the story may be years old and could otherwise be argued to negligently unfairly portray a person she hasn’t known for a long time in an extremely socially and professionally damaging light.
"Probably", lol. That isn't even remotely true, she's setting up a verbal safety net and you can see total insincerity in her expression. The person was Hugh Grant, and he hasn't changed at all. So sad that Jake G is in the discussion of this cuz, to my knowledge, he hasn’t ever been described as ‘hard to work with’ and struggling to believe he would make another actress cry on set. Glad Dwayne said something, didn’t believe the Twitter masses pointing the finger at him right away
It's a terrible game to speculate, and definitely Hugh Grant (a name mentioned many times below) can be extremely crotchety by all accounts, but a film with MERYL STREEP and Hugh Grant would surely have Rebecca as THIRD on the call sheet, not second!

God those interviews offer zero insight and feel almost ai generated.
If Rebecca Ferguson had mentioned having a bad experience with 'some actor' in the past, then it would have seemed unfortunate. But this has now gone viral because of her being so specific (timeframe, 'number one on call sheet' etc.) that she narrowed it down to about 8 actors. That means her comments tar all of those actors, and put them under a very grey cloud called 'the court of public opinion'... 😒 If she still lacks the spine to name the person, she should have had the grace to keep quiet. As it is she is threatening the reputation of 7 innocents to protect one person. Cowardice.
Her story was definitely a creative way to publicize Dune. Given the nature of Hollywood it makes me wonder if the story happened at all/as she describes it.
Not sure why she brought up the story to begin with, but Hugh Grant, in the past, has mentioned that he wasn't always the most prepared on set. And he has pissed off other co-stars in the past.
1:13 I'm very disappointed, Graeme. It's understandable to be upset about someone breaking COVID rules. However, it's not justified for a high-profile actor earning millions to berate crew members who work tirelessly. Many actors don't work as hard as the crew, who face numerous challenges and risks. While actors may have luxuries like trailers, crew members endure tough conditions and sacrifices. Tom Cruise, with authority on set, could have handled the situation better by discussing it with producers or holding a calm meeting. His aggressive behavior was unacceptable and abusive. Crew members deserve respect and fair treatment, regardless of an actor's status. Verbal abuse on set is never justified, and it undermines progress in combating industry abuse. Every individual, regardless of their role, deserves dignity and fair treatment in the workplace. The release of the recording by a crew member reflects the seriousness of the situation. You risk your entire career and any money you have or will have by doing that. Respect and professionalism should be upheld by all, regardless of status or wealth. I hope you kept that in mind when you were a producer at ET.

I don't see it that way, but I do get where you're coming from. And yes, the whole being expressionless thing may be due to that, and not due to something inherently nefarious in her character. Also, and to be fair, she's not the only neurodivergent actor around; the industry is positively filled with them, of course.

Whether you are an A-list actor, public figure, or an ordinary co-worker in a restaurant.
This guy in the video is kind of a douche. And I thought I was autistic...oof

Then he said, “And they’re all beautiful just like you.”

If Rebecca Ferguson had mentioned having a bad experience with 'some actor' in the past, then it would have seemed unfortunate. I hope you kept that in mind when you were a producer at ET.

how dare her talking about me like that
She had done Swedish films in 2008 and 2010 before becoming recognized in a big studio film with all big name actors 2014 and later. She stated later in the same interview talking about the difference in that environment where the director had no control vs safer big studio environment which she has been running with since working with hollywood. I think it would be hard keeping a big name scandal like that a secret if the whole cast and crew witnessed it.
Good for her!
Call them out ya’ll!
If anyone should out this it's the producers. She's technically protecting the person but so is the producer who should have been the one in control.
Who cares?
I'm so glad she's letting it all out
Ewan McGregor I bet it’s him. I’ve never heard anyone saying he’s such a great costar and he doesn’t seem like he’s friends with a lot of other stars.
It's hugh grant
Shmo he's more human. 😮😢😅
He was in Natalie Portmans project after the Star Wars sequels. Actors who don’t like each other tend to not work together again.
@@lauralarrabee7870I think Mary Elizabeth Winstead also disagrees.
@@deepzone31 holy cow I had no idea she is related to Ava Garner. Ewan married a former soap actress no way!!! I remember her on Passions she was so young.
Gave this a thumbs down despite this being an ok post..but due to the utterly ridiculous comment about justification of Mr Cruise's rant about the seasonal flu on set..anyone who still thinks all the nonsense that took place over the last few years, is in anyway ok, is not only a fool, but on the wrong side of history.
The fact that she didn't blast the name far and wide is far more grace than this person deserves. And convinces me this is 100 % legit
The fact that she didn't name anyone makes it a baseless claim with no validity, as we don't get to hear their side of the story......IF there even is another person.
@evanroberts2771 you do understand how the internet works, right? If she were to name someone that someone would have been guilty without evidence. She a well respected actress, this happened when she wasn't. To claim she's doing it for clout is rubbish. If she were to do it for publicity she WOULD have named the person. Like so many others did when it comes to false allegations
Nah, this was cowardly and petty. If you’re going to make a claim, substantiate it. Otherwise you’re just a petulant unprofessional whom others will avoid working with in the future.
@abdulg4762 meh. Sounds like a nonsense point when you factor in that this is as mild as possible when it comes to allegations.
@@undead9999 what about it would be specifically nonsensical? Be as detailed as possible.
Admittedly, ego wrangling is common in the acting profession. There are many situations like this in many professions, which is likely why managers are taught how to diffuse and handle those situations. It sounded like the director wasn’t being a good manager there, but hopefully learned and improved.
shes talking about herself, shes talking about the man in the mirror.
She's asking him to make a change.
Sent be ridiculous……
You’re funny
It's Ryan Reynolds.
It's Hugh Grant. Everything matches up according to her descriptions of the situation.
Hugh is grumpy like that but he's not #1 on call sheet on the movie they did together.
@@johnsmi213 she may have fabricated the "#1 on the call sheet thing" to throw the scent of Hugh Grant and protect herself from any defamation lawsuit or whatever.
he was in the scenes they did together. @@johnsmi213
@@johnsmi213 No1 on the call sheet doesn't have to mean literally no1 on the call sheet. By that comment she just meant an A-list actor/the big star of a film/s
