- This was such a very special and memorable moment our family will never forget!
In this video I am showing Minnie and Mickey my new prosthetic eyes! There is a surprise hidden at the very top of each prosthetic shell that I am revealing in person to Minnie and Mickey.
For those of you who are new to my channel, I have been completely blind for the past 11 1/2 years. I see nothing at all physically with my eyes, not even light perception, and I wear acrylic prosthetic scleral shells on top of my really small natural eyes.
A few weeks ago I somehow accidentally lost one of my older prosthetic eyes. After searching high and low all over my home with no eye in sight, I had to have new eyes made.
After going through a three day long process of my ocularist custom making me my new beautiful brown eyes, she asked me if I wanted her to hand paint Minnie and Mickey at the top of my eyes to add that sweet personal touch! After hearing our story, she knew how connected our family is to Disney since Disneyland is the place where I’ve began losing my complete eyesight in December 2007.
My last physical visual memories of my girls are in this magical place. They were two and five years old when I physically last saw them with Minnie and Mickey and all their favorite princesses.
Even though it can be a little heart wrenching to think about when we revisit this beautiful magical place, I have learned over these past several years to celebrate not what I’ve lost, but what I have gained. The vision that I have gained through my other senses, through my minds eye, through my family’s love, and through the eyes of my heart, are far more beautiful and more meaningful than what true eyesight could ever see.
What I love so much about Disney is that it celebrates The good and beauty in this world. Believing in your heart is where dreams begin. ❤️
I decided long ago to choose joy even in the mist of my sorrow. Every time our family comes back to this magical place, I feel joy all around me. I may not see with my eyes anymore, but I see with my heart what matters most of all.
PS; I have been going through a rough time lately with a skin infection hence the small bandage I have on my face. The physical pain I’ve been going through has been agonizing, let alone the emotional pain it has brought. Instead of hiding behind a camera in this video, I decided to be confident in who I am regardless of The bandage and the questions that may come from the public and enjoy the moment for what it truly means to me. I’m not about to allow my challenges to rob me of my joy, and from keeping me from making magical memories that will last a lifetime!

I think so too, I sometimes could hear little sounds coming from inside her costume. I felt her emotions through are physical connection. ❤️

Oh my gosh. You sincerely touched her. I could tell she wanted to emote so much but felt limited by the suit. She did AMAZING though in maintaining character and acting through.
Aimed2Kill Disney doesn’t let them break character, but I’m sure she was crying under that mask. Such a deep emotional story.

I have been to Disney twice, I love it. Disney except people for who they are and except them as their own family members. They don't care what disability you have, they just except you as a person. I love Disney so much. And how the characters are with people with disabilities. And with everybody. if I could go back to Disney again, I would love to meet all the princesses. I'm a huge princess fan. Love all the princesses like Cinderella snow white etc. We had an opportunity to meet snow white one day, but we did not get to meet her because we had other things to do. I would love to meet her if I went back to Disney again.

I teared up when he took your hands and had you feel his face and ears and just kept showing you (with your hands) all around. Right from the moment you said I’m completely blind but I want to see you...Mickey totally took it from there and knew what he was doing. I loved that so much! What an extra special moment!

I have a question, do they train the people that are dressed in the Disney character costume to do that? to let blind people touch them? I wonder if they're trained to do that?
@@MrMandygirl12 that’s a really good question, I’m not sure. I would assume they do to a certain extent but with Mikeys enthusiasm I feel that was just part of the heart of Mikey (ie the person in the costume).
did Mickey actually pat joy's back when he hugged her? What all was mini doing?

And I wish I could give you a big hug and tell you that we are in this together! Though are challenges and storms may be different, sorrow is sorrow, pain is pain, discouragement is discouragement. It is totally OK to have your moments, I have them all the time, but what is more important is to not live there forever. Keep your eyes on faith, hope, and joy, and believe with all your heart that the best is yet to come! I am someone who strongly believes in God, and respectful of your own personal believes, I know that God loves us so much and is always there.
Just hearing comments like yours and many others here is encouraging me and giving me so so much strength. Sometimes we may go through down moments so we can help others in need. I would like to repeat what Joy said, not to be in sorrow forever. I have had clinical depression for years, and one of the worst symptoms is ruminating. When something bad happens you keep thinking about it over and over. Joy is one of those wonderful people able to respect the sorrow, then let it go. We could all learn from her!

Something tells me that as soon as you left, the actors in the mickey/minnie costume went to the break room and started crying their eyes out. I feel like in a way, you mightve inspired them and showed them how beautiful this world is. You're truly the definition of joy, and I'm so glad I got recommended your videos again after getting the floaters in my eye again. I know that they'll be gone soon and that I just need to relax and calm down but everything in my life has been a mess lately and the stress of it had me noticing the floaters again. The doctors are still a bit worried because my cornea/4retina is so messed up from multiple surgeries that they dint want me to have another surgery anymore. Seeing your videos remind me the beauty of this world and I could never that k you enough for existing.

i love how much emotion they can show without saying anything. even though mickey and minnie can’t talk and joy can’t see, they still communicated as if they you both see and talk, which is so beautiful, amazing, and magical! and most people get grossed out seeing others take out their prosthetic eyes, they were not grossed out and thought it was amazing, and not weird or anything! ❤️

Disney actors must hear so many stories and so good at acting on the spot. I went for first time when i was 18 and was blown away at rapunzal how she said she she was 18 when she left the tower and explore etc and love to see my art etc. It felt so special

I am so sorry you’re going through some health problems at the moment, challenges involving our health is so hard. I was just hospitalized last week here on our Hawaiian vacation and I’m still healing from my infection, so I get it. 💙
Even when I am in so much pain, I have to remind myself of all the blessings God has given me. Having a positive perspective is key to finding joy in the mist of our sorrow. I keep holding on to hope, faith, and my joy! Many blessings :-)
