As a long time Fallout game player, this show was amazing and can't wait for S2. Not only the nods to the game, but it's just such a smart, well-written show regardless of the world it's in. And in something that seems rare nowadays, a lot of foreshadowing and hints of later plot points/episodes sprinkled throughout the series.
"Us cowpokes...we take it as it comes." Relevant when you're with your daughter in a teaching moment, or when you're murdering 3 people.

I liked how Lucy's intro was just like the Fallout 3 character creation, and she even listed her tagged skills. She is basically the setup people picked to maximize xp.
In Fallout 4 another build was found to do that by lowering intelligence to 2 and maxing luck, to exploit the Idiot savant perk. I suspect that is Maximus's character build. He should end up quite leveled up, and sort of fall up in life. That is fail missions successfully. He also will get a very high chance to crit, and should be unreasonably lucky.
In time with that build you add points to intelligence, but for now, I suspect he is like a 7 year old.
Just guessing, but I think I'm right. Could get funny if I'm right, you know if he hasn't put a single point into intelligence since the refrigerator.

Kyle Hill just did a video on the thumb thing, and it's not accurate at all. You can be standing much closer to the blast and still be safe.
But it served the show so amazingly well. The actress playing the daughter just fuckin sold the horror. Some of the best child acting I've ever seen.

There is one thing that could alter the thumb thing. Standard bombs and radiation, yes everything he said is likely true, but if a different bomb is used, like cobalt, is used to inflict maximum radiation damage, it could alter those basic truths.

    • @brewdaly1873
      @brewdaly1873 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@davidmacy411 not necessarily, specifically because what we're talking about here is the immediate effects. The question is should you "not bother running?"
From what I know, which admittedly is relatively little, the dangerous thing about cobalt bombs isn't that they produce a larger area of radiation, or even that they produce a deadlier form of radiation. It's that cobalt-60 has a much slower decay rate so the radiation will stick around for a lot longer. Hence why they're called "salt bombs," because they effectively "salt the earth."
The immediate burst of radiation is still pretty small compared to the shockwave and thermal wave, so as long as you're beyond those, you'd still have time to run. Of course, fallout will travel on the wind, so everyone downwind of any nuclear blast would still need to evacuate ASAP. But, even in the case of cobalt bombs, you still have a chance to escape even if the mushroom cloud is bigger than your thumb.

Now you are young, to those of us growing up during The Cold War that intro is what we feared would happen- every day. So yes it is true. But we lived our lives. When I teach my The History of The Cold War classes, I always start by showing them a five minute video of nuclear explosions with eerie music, to make your generation understand what it all was- and what you will have to get used to again with Putoloni's sabre-rattling (though he is too much of a coward to do it). During the Cold War, the USSR was planning to open the war by dropping 600+ merely on my little Denmark.
The game is set in an alternative timeline, where the transistor was never invented, so everything used vacuum-tubes like early computers. And thus the timeline starts diverging from ours in the year after WW2, and progress is generally much slower. But there is also no Cuban Missile Crisis, Long Island, etc, and no reckoning with its past, so the US carries on in a sort of Truman-Eisenhower Superamerica with nuclear powered cars, etc. But in the 21st century fossil fuels and other resources starts running out, and The Resource Wars starts; where Europe, Africa and The Middle East is torn apart, and China invades Alaska to get the last remaining oil resource on the planet. And in 2077... Boom.
And oh yea, the US turns authoritarian semi-Fascist, a bit like Starship Troopers.
Anyway, think of the game and series as set in a sort of retro-futuristic post apocalypse, IE a future as imagined in the fifties, but then add a nuclear exchange of superpowers. In the games you find all those tragic and dark stories as you explore the Wasteland, the series show them, but both do a very good job of what good SciFi should; holding up a dark mirror to humanity- and with Fallout it is really dark.

I don't know how much of the show you've seen so far, but this show is not really an adaptation from any of the games. It is its own story however the writers faithfully stuck with story references pulled from the games while injecting their own main characters. It made this show unique and probably why it succeeded. Also, this is the only instance in the Fallout world, that I know of, where there are three interconnected vaults, and the introduction that ghouls need to ingest or inhale some chemical to keep from going feral is totally new.

2:26 no it is a satirical jab at the "duck and cover" propaganda from the Cold War. Basically it was just a tool to make the masses feel safer. It has been a fan theory for a long time that the Vault Boy (the mascot of Fallout) depicts exactly this but it was debunked - originally the smirk and thumbs up just was supposed to be ironic because of the post apocalyptic setting. No matter how big the explosion is you should go to safety instead of wasting time on giving a thumbs up .

The Halo TV show is not to bad so long as you go in understanding that it is simply based on the whole Halo lore and that the writers intentionally set it in an alternate universe so they could write something familiar yet new and not simply retell the same story, That said season 1 has its moments where it is good but then it overwhelmingly has the what where they thinking moments, season 2 was so much better as they pushed back to the lore and core story and swept most of the season 1 mess under a carpet, the biggest down fall of the Halo show was the Halo fans that wanted a 1 to 1 recreation of the first game with 100% constant action like the game which in film format would never work. Still you should watch it if you wish to
