Note about Belial and cagliostro and moves/characters that were left out: 1. For belial, you can look at his meter to see if he does the ult version so you don’t get caught. It’s tricky but do-able! 2. Cagliostro: I made a mistake when labbing against her air ultimate. Please see the top comments for the correct counter play. My apologies for the error😢 I’m making another video about some other moves/ characters in the game that weren’t covered here as well as corrections to the two mistakes above
@@mugenm8nlight74 Yes, Belial 5U has no hitbox on its own and ultimate grab can't catch airborne opponents so jumping counters both. No guessing needed. Takes patience to not mash before he goes into recovery of course but that comes with practice.
Hey Chris! About 0:36, this is a good counterplay when using j.22U to trap. But, when blocking the air 22U, Cagli will be +7 on block, that means if you try to 2H in this situation and Cagli use j.L or j.H instead, you will get hit and big combo'd. To avoid the on block situation, you need to spotdodge the air 22U and then you can 2H to punish. I know it's hard to react, but you will have a good combo if you CH 2H!
all you gotta do is jump over him if you see him walking weird at all. just wait till he shrugs or whiffs command grab and you get a full punish no matter what thing he did
A brief note about Belial's parry/command grab situation: Both the parry and command grab will lose to jumps, so if you see either, you can jump it and get a full punish.
An additional note about dealing with Sieg 4US is that he can set it up to punish spot dodge in the corner following some specific combo setups. Usually you'll see him jab a couple times to set it up, but using spot dodge will let him throw you. An invincible reversal can beat this knowledge check in most situations.
This feels like a game with a lot of knowledge checks so there's probably a lot left to cover. A lot of plus on block setups require specific answers to them, and outside very few characters it feels like most have something that is just tricky by nature. Soriz springs to mind as a character that a lot of people struggle to find answers to in large part due to the combination of plus on block advancing armor moves, and Seox also seems to be knowledge checking people left and right. There are other examples like I play Yuel who has a lot of tricky setups that leaves her plus, but unlike common knowledge checks she mostly has to guess on what you're going to do on defense in order to set up her tricky offense, so that's more standard vortex looping oki stuff where you have to weigh your options on what makes most sense and the Yuel player has so far shown to favor. As always, great video and I'm happy that you're covering granblue, which to me at least feels a lot less transparent than Street Fighter, even if the barrier of entry is lower.
There was too much to cover in just one video- I’m working on a part 2 with the characters you mentioned plus more. Thank you for the kind words! I’ve been really enjoying this game
I guess an additional to Belial when he does his cmd grab Ulti its a combined version of Parry and Cmd Grab have a look out on their Meter to check if its either the normal parry or ulti parry and punish accordingly
Belial main - the “funny jump” or “goombastomp”my friends and I call 5U is also vulnerable to most forms of DP with or without invuln. Belial only tanks the first frame on contact: he’s completely vulnerable while in the air so - depending on the character - DPing straight into him mid parry is a safe option
If you block her reversal, no option she has is fast enough to stop you from hitting her @@MikeyDLuffy Also nier M DP does have armor, it just doesn't kick in for 21 frames, so it's not a reversal like H is
I will mention that whenever you said "use an invulnerable skill to avoid this" doesn't really apply for like a good chunk of the cast, if you don't have meter at the time.
Amazing video! But aside from the mistake on the Cag counterplay that is nlt the correct way to counter Niers DP either since she can cancel her DPs recovery into her other specials and if a Nier player does a DP THEY WILL cancel it into followups. Doing a 7f attack after blocking the first hit will allow you to always hit the puppet disabling it for a short time. And if you space yourself at a range where you hit the puopet but miss Niers body you can then dash up and hit Nier with a stronger punish because she will still be stuck in recovery from doing a special > special cancel. Very hard to do, but at the moment that seems to be the best way to beat it. Definatly the most OP move in the game right now and I have a hard time believing it will not get nerfed at the earliest balance patch.
You’re absolutely right and thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed answer! I think throw after dodging the super armor is guaranteed as well but correct me if I’m wrong. I’m going to be extra thorough when I post part 2
for Nier part if she try to dp on wake up then checking with anything then spot dodge ll lose for sure, it's the guess if she try dp on wake up or on defense so kinda hard to make sure to punish it.
Appreciate this video a lot. Love this game but the amount of knowledge checks is kind of insane, feels like I need to read a book before I can actually start playing a fighting haha instead of "figure out what they are even doing" game. Would love a continuation with the other characters, particularly Vaseraga and Avatar Belial as I have 0 idea whats going on at any point haha.
Good info. Thanks. So Nier: use a L, then spot dodge 6S. I don't know any safe jumps or meaties, but maybe that's fine. Hope to remember some of these.
You're welcome. Yeah, I try to get higher level in games, though I usually hit a wall since I don't get to play as often as most. Found a few in KoF15 by chance from vids. @@Chris_F
It’s not as big a knowledge check as others in this video but narmaya’s Genji Stance 4S+H can have controllable distance so she can cross you up pretty easily and it goes over or past most supers making it a pretty good option to finish a low health opponent as they have to either guess which direction you’re hitting from or hold block. Plus it is pretty difficult to punish at least for most people up to S Rank. (Though I have not gotten past S Rank yet so I’d guess higher level players can probably punish it pretty consistently.)
I just realized that if you're playing as Vira in Luminiera form, you can counter Belial's parry with your 5U. The move is still active when the parry starts and you get the follow up 😂
Belials 5U can be punished much better than that. If you know it’s not the ultimate version you can even roll and side switch into a full 5H combo on its recovery frames.

Small correction regarding Nier's reversal: That's her 6 H+S reversal. Light and medium don't have armor.
