Joshua thanks for the video. Just a word of caution if you aren’t aware already, laser engraving (along with other thermal processes) on stainless steel will produce toxic hexavalent chromium fumes and dust so it’s definitely something anyone doing this needs to be aware of and be informed of the risks
You, my friend, gave me an excellent idea. I have etched a lot of glass and always have used black tempra paint. I spray it on using an airbrush which is very time consuming. The carbon from the candle looks like it would be a much faster way to do it and the cleanup would be just as easy as with the tempra paint. Beyond excellent video!
@@joshuadelisle I finally got to try the candle carbon trick on glass today. It worked fine. Also I tried it on aluminum. It does work but I had to rub over the area I engraved with a magic marker and then clean the excess off with acetone so you can see the engraving. The good part about that is I suppose you can use any colour of magic marker you want. Now all my ss rulers have my logo engraved on them. Thanks again for the tip. It was a good one. I passed it on to Ed at URHC. I have a feeling you will be seeing it in his next video. Take care my friend.

Keep hoping someone doing a review on one of these(or better yet the more powerful models) will try to cut laminate flooring boards(amazing material usable for a whole host of things that is both cheap and available everywhere) and particle-board flooring(for much the same reasons...), pretty much all the improvised/diy machines(saws, angle.grinder stands etc.etc.etc.) seen on umpteen different youtube channels can be made from these 2 alone...
Excellent! So, I would like to see where I can get everything you are doing, what the cost, and purchase price in depth so more folks can do what you are doing here in USA. Would you be willing to do that? I would help many folks get it right the first go if you will...yes?
I definitely will do a workshop tour one day with costings. I would say that there is an order of what to purchase over a length of time and job opportunity.
@@joshuadelisle it didn’t look like you used the soot technique on the second engraving for the sign. Can I ask please, what settings did you use? I’ve recently just upgraded to the lu2-10a and still trying to find a decent starting point for each material
@@MrSDNeo Hi. Yes if the stainless is a Matt/brushed finish then it doesn't require any surface prep/sooting. If the surface is at a high polish then you need something to stop the reflection. I run at 200mm per minute @100% for most polished things. For brushed stainless you can engrave at a 1000mm per minute. I recommend doing some small tests on different finish qualities on stainless at different speeds from 100-1000mm per minute. All the very best. Cheers J
The key is having the zero position set so it can be found again. When I re started mine and had to re home I remembered the position I set it to start from. On the computer it registered the fault and gave me the option to continue from last known position. Hope that helps. Cheers J
The air assist button on lightburn is only for machines with a solenoid connection. You will have to manually do it with this laser. The button won't do anything. Cheers J

I have a 10A machine, Artur Lazer Master 2 PRO S2.. tried on glass but does not engrave.. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. It works fine on metal..
Hi. I've not tested on glass yet. It maybe a case of applying a paint to the surface first so the laser has a opaque surface to engrave that can be washed off after. Cheers J

Nice metal engraving, thanks for sharing. Thank you so much. So far the Atomstack versions I've tested have been no good, I've tried the Xtool but LONGER have proven to be the most cost effective option that works very well, I also like their controller. Cheers J
Hey nice vid. I was ordering a muffler and they were going to laser engrave it for me with my logo. I was wanting a more bronze look instead of very black like what your machine made. Is this dependent on the source material I provide or the machine and the way they do it? Was wondering if I need to provide them a brown color logo vs my standard black one or does it matter?
For the color you can change the speed and power to create different hues. The very best method I've seen is on titanium using a heat resistant mask that is lasered off and heated to create temper colours. The masked areas are protected from oxidation and remain silver until removed and then in use the whole exhaust turns a vivid purple and the lettering goes a blue and straw color.
Whats the different between this model and the Ortur 3. do i really need the 3 if it uses the same type of laser. How do you find the company you bought it from as there is another company that sells them.
Hi. I'm actually being sent the Ortur 3 to review so I'll have a Idea soon. From what I can see it is the same laser but a more robust gantry with fine adjustment. I don't think you extend it as easily as version 2 pro. Version 3 also can be controlled via an app. Cheers J
Thanks for the reply, i would like to know if you get stung by tax and import duty, you know what the UK can be like. Anyone had to pay this to the UK.
Hey man noob question, does this laser engrave stainless steel without the black color, is that more of setting you can set or more of how the laser just engraves and you cant engrave with just the metal color
It doesn't engrave in the same way it would engrave wood. It only marks the steel which is an oxidizing effect. So only black however an infra red laser can get different colours through a tempering effect. Cheers J
Hi everybody. I replaced my laser head unit to a new LU2-10A laser head unit and connected it to my laser device, model OLM2PRO S2. I uploaded a file using the LIGHTBURN software and... the laser does not engrave. I've attached a video. Does anyone have an idea what to do? I would appreciate any suggestion.
Hi Joshua we are very interested in this engraver cutter but I would like to know if it will safely cut paper from 160 gsm up to 250 gsm? I am interested in using it to cut out pop up mechanisms for cards and books.
Most laser engravers will cut paper and card just fine. You just need to reduce the laser power down to something like 10% and to move at a rapid pace. I've got other lasers to review so I'll include those tests for you.
Big fan of your channel but it's disappointing when you don't follow through with videos. Still waiting on the extension to do full sheets and the MkII air fed mask.
They're still in the making. These things take time unfortunately. The extended plasma is moving to my other workshop as I'm struggling for roon and the MK2 respirator is being sponsored by a military grade filter company which is coming up shortly. Cheers J
Yes but you need to make sure the controller can supply the Correct voltage to the laser. I believe buying the laser module separately comes with an extra power module but you'll need to double check. Cheers J

There are large flat format machines available, but very pricey £10k+
I have looked into DTG or Sublimation but both have their limitations..
Could be very useful..
Thanks.
Definitely something to consider. Cheers J
Yes!
Awesome work mate 👍
Thank you. Cheers J
Would like to see that build and how good it does!
Thank you. Cheers J
Spray paint some thin metal, laser off the paint, then chemical etch to cut through. Brass locos etc
Josh, I'd love to see the expanded gantry for the laser.
Coming soon. Thank you. Cheers J
Go, go, go!
Have you tried cutting glass with it? Can you please try cutting glass, 3mm, 6mm and such? .. I'm wondering if I can use it for stained glass work.
I know it can engrave glass. It may be able to make a break line for you. I'll test it. Cheers J
Thank you for your inspiration and your excellent video work. And yes, show me the entlarging!!!! :-)
Thank you, I will. Cheers J
I often wonder if lowering the laser a small amount between passes would make for a better and lesser number of passes cur

Awesome video thank you Joshua
Thank you so much for watching. Cheers J
When it stopped 3 times for possible overheating, have you considered a method for heat reduction using either a dust collector or a blower fan?
I've definitely popped a few rubbers in my day🤷🏿♂️
Awesome video. And great work.
Thank you Steve. Cheers J
Cheers J
Did you post the materials needed to make that air compressor adapter you mentioned?
@@anthonytimpanaro7344 I did in a later video. I can't remember which one... Sorry
that was great, but wish that machine would do cnc also.
Excellent.
Thank you. Cheers J
can you share with us how to start back when the laser stopped.. also with what software did you use..
I will do a video on that. Cheers J
The key is having the zero position set so it can be found again. When I re started mine and had to re home I remembered the position I set it to start from. On the computer it registered the fault and gave me the option to continue from last known position. Hope that helps. Cheers J
Tnx u helped alot .
This or laser master 3 for gravering stainlestell bracelets? :)
Dude. Barbie>Top Dad, well done mate! Well done.
Thank you so much. Cheers J
Great videos Josh very informative 👍 question with this type of machine laser engrave aluminium or is something else needed
David
Thank you. You can mark anodised aluminium but it will not affect the raw aluminium surface. Cheers J
Funnily enough, in the edit if you had cut the hard rock music in when showing B-Roll of your daughter's dollhouse that would've been hilarious.
add a camera-no more problem setting up your material. I love the video, if only you list the settings
Thank you. All settings are mentioned but I'll write them in the description. Cheers J
You have a video of adding a plasma laser to this machine 🥺
Not this one but the previous model. Check out my other videos. Cheers J
Have you tried it on (hardened) carbon steel as well? I know that that might react differently to stainless.
I have with more powerful lasers. Doesn't work so well on normal steel with a 10w.
Thank you Joshua, if you have air pump connected and powered (manually) do you enable air assist on lightburn?
The air assist button on lightburn is only for machines with a solenoid connection. You will have to manually do it with this laser. The button won't do anything. Cheers J
thanks@@joshuadelisle I though this button was for the internal air assist fan for the laser head, as it is generating extra noise with the external air assist pump
@@abusam1 the internal fan should be running constantly to keep the diodes cool. Otherwise they'll degrade very quickly. Cheers J
@@joshuadelisle👍, you are right, it just that I saw some videos on powder coating after engrave on wood, and they recommend to turn the air assist off so that powder wont fly before it gets melted.
That’s awesome mate. Would this work on carbon steel as apposed to stainless? Ta
I believe so. I'm using it on a carbon steel blade I've recently forged, video coming soon. Cheers J
@@joshuadelisle awesome but cheers I look forward to seeing it 👍🏻
I subscribed! What are you waiting for? Hands on that aluminum extrusion bars.. 😉👍

Hey! Nice Job! How did ou manage to get de 10watt laser mounted adn running on the Othur Laser Master 2 Pro S2 without the additional break-out board ?
This one came with the 10w laser and has built in board drivers. Cheers J
I wonder if it would work on silver?
I don't know but my thoughts are it won't because silver reacts to heat oxidation very differently to steel. Cheers J
hi thanks for the video ... like you!!! perfectly engraves.. How can I find out what parameters you set for glass engraving , can I find out ? or do you have a video clip :? I have a 10A machine, Artur Lazer Master 2 PRO S2.. tried on glass but does not engrave.. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. It works fine on metal..
Hi. I've not tested on glass yet. It maybe a case of applying a paint to the surface first so the laser has a opaque surface to engrave that can be washed off after. Cheers J
@@joshuadelisle ок
will it engrave aluminum?
It won't but it's great for removing anodized coating to create a negative effect. Cheers J
Did you have to upgrade the power supply to 5 Amps? Could that be why it shut off on you 3 times? I am wanting to upgrade my OLM2 Pro S2
Brilliant!
Man looking for laser engraving machine that works on acrylic wanna RGB backlates for video cards will the lm2 pro do the Job for both cutting and engraving on acrylic?
Diodes lasers will not work on clear acrylic than less it's an infrared version or a CO2 laser. Cheers J
I love your videos
Thank you so much. Your very kind. Cheers J
did you say 30mm acrylic? Looks like you need a vacuum table.
Yes 30mm black acrylic. A vacuum table would be great. Cheers J
Hi Joshua, what laser engraving machine would you recommend for an all-in-one with the best results
Can it cut copper sheet around 1mm thickness?
No you need a more powerful fibre laser or plasma torch for that. Cheers J
Would the laser master 3 do the same results as this? Looks great on engraving!
I believe LM3 is the same laser module just with a better gantry with an app controller. I will be able to confirm this as they are sending me one to review. Cheers J
@@joshuadelisle awesome! Thanks for the reply! Shall look forward to seeing it!
Nice metal engraving, thanks for sharing. I have the previous model ortur master 2, I would like to get on a better machine and be able to make metal engravings
what machine do you recommend? for example Longer-grabador láser RAY 5, xTool D1 pro or Atomstack X20 pro, etc.
I will appreciate your opinion
Thank you so much. So far the Atomstack versions I've tested have been no good, I've tried the Xtool but LONGER have proven to be the most cost effective option that works very well, I also like their controller. Cheers J
@@joshuadelisle Thank's So, Longer is your option? I'm thinking more than usd 500. Sorry my English is bad. Regards
Did you mean upto 3mm acrylic?
Nope 30mm no joke. Cheers J
@@joshuadelisle wow that’s incredible
can the laser cutter cut through brass ?
This one can't cut brass but it may sinter brass powder to steel. Cheers J
Hey mate, did you coat the stainless for your sign with an etch compound or was that just the machine?
Nope no compound. that was just the machine laser etching on brushed stainless 304. cheers J

I recommend contacting Ortur in case there is a fault. Cheers J
Cheers J
@@joshuadelisle Thanks for the update, appreciate it thank you. Looking forward to them.
So which laser is best, madethebest or longer?
I like both for different reasons. A combination of the two would be ideal. The next one I'm reviewing maybe just that. Cheers J
Will buying thr 10w head installed on lesser version have same effect
Yes but you need to make sure the controller can supply the Correct voltage to the laser. I believe buying the laser module separately comes with an extra power module but you'll need to double check. Cheers J

INSTEAD of using CANDLE SOOT for this purpose,,,, you can use ACETONE mixed with pure carbon that can be purchase online and spray it on with an airbrush with less than 20 psi,, then burn with about 300/speed at 100% power leaving a very durable and very visible black mark and easily cleaned up with plain water,,, it simply will not scrub off ,,, its TOUGH!
