i love Oxford! Using the ox sound is brilliant and made me think of names like Maddox, Knox, Lennox and Fox. my other idea was Oscar?? Hawkley? Oakley? Oakland? Hawken? or maybe even a not-so-subtle nod to the former potus and go with Barrack??
i also love the idea of using OC as the initials! that way you can choose from hundreds of beautiful first names that start w an O (and middles that start w a C)
For occy- Lockie or Lochlan - loch is scottish for lake and the “occ” in occy is the perfect sounding for loch/Lockie/y/Lochlan. I actually think Loch is a lovely boy name!
True and I was also thinking surely Oscar would work. Or they could give him a C middle name so he’s OC and this makes sense that his nickname might be Occy.
Teacher: Blythe for a girl..it was one of my fave girl names. It's very vintage but super pretty and very underused (to my knowledge). Everyone has heard of it but don't know many/anyone with that name. For a boy, what about Gilbert (nicknames could be Gil or Bertie). Again, not very well used but it's cute and he is a romantic hero in Anne of Green Gables. (I'm also aware that my suggestions make the whole name of Gilbert Blythe but there you go!)
My name is not vintage, but it is rare. Dovalyn pronounced "Dah-vuh-lyn". My mom went to highschool with a Dovalyn and thought it was pretty. I talked to a geneologist and they said is has Gaelic and Latin roots meaning "from the valley", though I don't know how accurate this is. I know of one other (we met on Facebook) and her's was a merge of Doug, Valerie, and Gwendolyn from her parents and grandmother. (All 3 of us are in America.) I get complimented on it all the time and it is phonetic, so most people don't mess it up once they see it written down. I love your lists!
For Issa looking for a long name for Occy; Oscar, Oakley, Oakland, Lochie, Lochland But what about an O name you like with a C middle name so you get Occy from OC? Takes the pressure off a bit; Otis Caspian Odin Cosmo Otto Cassius Oliver Claude (if you wanted a more traditional/serious name then Occy as nickname)
For the lady looking for a 4th name what about: Mable, Genevieve, Hazel, Harper, or Maisie for a girl and Elijah, Clayton, Preston, Emmett, or Morgan for a boy!
For Emmanuelle, what about Emma Noel/Noelle? If you want to appease the grandma. That way you don't have to come up with a middle name to match! Noah and Noelle go together beautifully
I feel bad for the mom whose Mother didn’t like the name, but if it was me, I would certainly value my husband’s opinion above my mother for naming a baby.😭😂
I have a good friend named Emanuelle and absolutely love the name, we call her Elzy (pronounced ell-zee) for short, which I feel like works really well with Noa!
Teacher's baby name - Susannah for a girl and Dalgleish (Daly as a nickname) or Wesley for a boy. Mommy Bee - Carmela, Esme, Cecelia, Francesca, Sylvie. Rachel - Ashwin, Kieran, Ambrose, Gwyn, Malo, Stello, Rhys. * Angus is a fantastic name! Issa - Rocco, Domenico, Oche (meaning King), Roscoe, Ocotlán (Aztec-Nahuatl name meaning pine), Oscar, Oakley. Sarah - Benedetto, Francesco, Agostino, Dario, Cosmo, Fiorello, Giulio. * Emmanuelle is a lovely elegant name! Maybe use Vieve as a middle name?
Fascinating topic today. For the teacher - David, Roger, Andrew, Robert, Miranda, Beatrice, Vivienne, Priscilla. For the 4th baby - Philippa, Stephanie, Elizabeth. For sister Thea - Angus, Bryn, Logan. For Occy - Oscar. For Emmanuelle's parents - as always, it is your baby & mum will get used to it once she is born. She would probably become Emmy so all good.
I really feel for the lady who is pregnant with her fourth child, third girl. I’m in exactly the same position and will be giving birth this week. My three are Seraphine, Isadora and Alaric. I’m still not 100% sure. My oldest says my naming style is sounds like they could be a werewolf 🤣
Some name suggestions: Violet, Elizabetta, Persephone, Lilith, Josephine, Evangeline, Anastasia, Sapphire, Ottiline, Pollyanna. I would love to know what you end up calling your baby! Good luck
@@madeleinep7103 aaaargh my pet hate is people assuming I named him after Vampire Diaries 🙈. He’s named after Alaric I, the Visigoth 😊 but yes I love his name too. She thinks my style is werewolf because she’s seen my longlist and says nearly every name on it is a wolf name .
She should stick with Emmanuelle! If they love it that's all that should matter. Plus there are lots of nickname options if they want (Elle, Ellie, Emmy, etc.)
You’ve been mentioning Vera a lot- in Germany „Verena“ is relatively common. I checked the English statistics site and it is not in the top 100. so maybe this would also be an interesting option for some people. Katie: how about Iris? Occy: how about Okra like the flower? You could do a big reach from caspian to occy. Or maybe just ocean seeing how you are such big surfers? Although I’m not sure if that ties into the wish for a more sophisticated adult name. I came across the name „onda“ (Italian for wave) and got really excited but sadly it’s for girls.
Vintage: Boy: Lankford (formal surname) Girl: Zipporah (biblical + vintage.) 4th Child: Lainey (cute + flows with other names) Thea's Brother: Derrick Ellis (keeps the D from Dylan + flows with Thea) Occy: Thaddoc (combo of Maddoc with Thaddeus) Italian: Teo (short for Matteo + similar to Theo) Emmanuelle: its so cute and go with it. They are both biblical. Both are tomboyish as mostly used by boys. Its so cute. I love Ethyn & Anthony for girls.
My husband loves the name Cordelia with the nickname Corey for a girl. We’ve gotten some raised eyebrows to it when we’ve brought it up to other people, so I’m really glad you recommended it, because it kind of reinforces it in my mind as a great name.
I think for the teacher, Ingrid for a girl or Julian for a boy could be nice! For a 4th baby: Louise is my suggestion! Brother for Thea: seems like you like names with L in it, what about Colin? Oscar definitely for nickname Occy. Unique Italian name could be Gianluca with a nickname of Luca.
For Rachel: it’s a really uncommon name nowadays but I think Cecil would work really well. A lot of people hate it but I think it’s great. Also Tristan is fantastic
For the nn Occy: I think Enoch could be a cool choice. It's Hebrew which is in style right now and means dedicated. Could also work for Joaquin which I've never been able to find a good short form for. Ocaso is the Spanish word for sunset/twilight although I don't know if that'd be a little too word-y sounding to Spanish speakers.
Italian boy names for Sarah: Pietro, Edoardo, Enzo, Amedeo, Ettore, Bruno, Filippo, Domenico or Glauco? * For Katie: Ambra for a girl and Jonathan for a boy? * For Rachel: Jude or Hugo?
I don't normally comment but Emmanuelle is beautiful and goes gorgeously with Noah. I've never heard Emmanuelle for a girl before and think it is lovely. Such a beautiful name
For the teacher, as I am a teacher as well, I feel for you. I actually love the name Ivy. Maybe Iris might fit the bill with that strong /I/ and also a flower/plant name. I think they also bloom in July. Similar to Delilah, maybe Odella or Odeliah or Ophelia. I don't know where you are, but Norah and Nora are both extremely popular where I live, along with Emmas and Evelyns. For boys, Matteo is rising, Atreyu or Alaric are both names you might like being a bit more strong and classic but not overly popular.
Thank you for your suggestions! They are lovely ☺️ It’s so tough thinking of those middle ground names isn’t it! I’m in England (Yorkshire) and Norah isn’t very popular here yet but Ivy is really on the rise so thanks for the other options x
@@katiebenton7859 So difficult. I had several boy names I've loved and my husband has vetoed my top two. They name we currently both agree on I'm just not in love with. My top two were Joshua and David. His top name is Erasmus with a nickname of Ras. We're completely agreed in the girl department, but that's one I'm keeping close to me. I'm in the US, in Vermont.
For the teacher - Beau, Jasper, Silas, Quincy for a boy. Amabel, Cosette, Dahlia, Esme, Greta, and Rosalie for a girl. For the 4th baby- Sebastian/Bastien, Ronan, Julian, Penelope, Isla, or Juliet. Brother for Thea- Cassian, Easton, Finn, Rhett, Seth, Wilder. And I would also stick with Emmanuelle. Of course you want your mother to be on board with the name. But most people will get over their aversion to a name once the baby is here. Some will even learn to love it. And I agree that you will not regret picking a name that you love but you will regret not using it. And there are lots of nicknames that can come from a Emmanuelle if they want a shorter version for her mother to use. Emmy/Emma, Ellie/Ella/Elle just to name a few.
Thank you so much for the suggestions SJ. You’ve made my month! ☺️ You have definitely understood what I’m looking for which is so exciting 🥰 You mentioned Evelina at the beginning which has also been on my baby name list since watching your videos! I love Norah, Micah, Barnaby and Otto. Thanks to everyone else for your suggestions in the comments too. It’s SO helpful. Keep them coming! ❤️
Hi SJ! I absolutely love your new podcast, I’m so glad you decided to do one, and the discourse between you and your sister is so fun. My husband and I have pretty unique taste in names which has been our first struggle. We like soft names for both genders with all kinds of origins, but all of them sort of have an underlying Spanish, bohemian vibe. Our favourite names right now are Odeya, Sola, August, Leighton and Cleo. Our biggest struggle though is that we have lost four pregnancies and given names to all four of those babies, so we’ve already used up the majority of our favourites. I’d like names to have some special meaning for our rainbow, but nothing super obvious for a rainbow baby like iris. My husband isn’t religious so names with god in the meaning are OK but not perfect. I’d love for a name to have sun/sunshine in the meaning somewhere as an honorary name for my grandma, whose maiden name is beausoleil, but my main issue is that if we use Sola as a sibling most names meaning sunshine have “sol” somewhere in it and it becomes too matchy matchy. Please help us find something we can add to our list that could be “the one”. Love your channel! Thanks, Brenna
For Emmanuelle dilemma, I say go with the gut but what about Emma-Noel as a double barrel alternative. Ines is also a great short middle name option similar to Yves Teacher vintage name: Ida, Veda, Sylvie/Sylvia, Manon, Hazel, Oraetta, Flora, Margot
vintage: Laith (boy; meaning lion) or Hera (girl; meaning queen) fourth child: Penelope (weaver) or Phoebe (shining one) Thea’s brother: Damon (Greek origin like Thea) or Elijah (Hebrew origin) name for Occy: Conan (little wolf) or Connor (wise) italian sibling name: Marcello (young warrior) or Lucian (latin origin meaning light) Emmanuelle: stick with the name Emmanuelle, it sounds great with Noa. if you did end up changing Ziva could be nice, both Noa and Ziva have Hebrew origins.
For the teacher I suggest Adua for a girl and Bruno for a boy. For the the second dilemma I think Milena would go well with the other names. For the sibiling for Thea maybe Bash or Casper. A name for occy could be Niccolò (with either one or two c) For italian boy names Riccardo, Gioele or Danilo.
For the “brother for Thea”: Dell, Cole, or Tate. Like SJ said about Tristan, with Tate you have the same first initial as Thea but it’s pronounced as a hard T so not too matchy. I love Noah and Emmanuelle as sisters! 2 masculine names (I am used to hearing Emanuel as a boy’s name) I definitely think that parents know best when it comes to their kids’ names, not grandparents or anyone else. Go for Emmanuelle! So pretty and unique! 💛💛
For Kate; I love you suggestions, especially Cornelia which is my youngest's middle name. I also thought of Odelia and Odette. Hazel and Audrey are a couple of my favorite vintage names.
When you say that you'll never regret using a name you love, but you'll regret letting a name go, you're completely right! My husband and I just got a new puppy. We want to use family names, and my husband's family has a lot of odd and interesting ones due to his Romani heritage. We ended up choosing the name Joiner, which was a nickname of one of his ancestors (who, oddly, was a blacksmith). Nobody likes the name but us, but we have never regretted it!
For Occy, maybe you could go with something that has OC in it, but doesn’t necessarily start with those letters. For example, Rockford, Lochlan, Brock, or Maddock.
For the teacher: I love Cordelia. Dean is a boy name I don't hear too often right now as well. For the 4th baby name: Kind of working off Maeve, but I thought of Mabel or Clara. For Thea's brother, I would say Brandt or Topher. A long form of Occy could be Lochlyn, Osric, or even Colson. I love love love the name Adriano for an Italian boy name. If you want to keep G names then Giancarlo would be a good choice. I love Emmanuelle honestly, but if she wanted to shorten it, she could go with Emmy or Elle too. Emmanuelle Kate might be cute together.
As an Emmanuelle, I’ve loved having a longer more unique name. My sisters are Vhia and Eveni so we’ve all got different amounts of syllables. All named after family members with a twist :) x
For Katie the teacher, how about Ada or Avalon? Obviously Ava is so so common but I know a couple of who had Arlo, Indigo and Avalon and I just love it! Also think it sounds vintage without being common, also has ties to the v sound in Ivy. Same with Ada, such a beautiful and delicate name and ties in with Delilah!
For Occy, what about an O C combo for first and middle? So the first thing I thought of was Otis Carlisle. Could also go with Otto, Odie, Oliver, Ollie, etc and Charlie, Charles, Casey, Cooper, etc for a middle?
Name for teacher: Nellie, Felicity, or Josie Davy, Edwin, or Felix 4th baby name: Jane, Evangeline, or Beatrice Brother for Thea: Bennett, Jens , and i really like SJ’s suggestion of Tristan! Name for Occy: Nico, or Oakes Italian name: Stefano, Adriano Emmanuelle: If she wants to completely change the name, maybe Clara-Mae? But Emmanulle is so beautiful, and i really loved SJ’s suggestions of Emmanuelle Grey! (And the nickname Emmie Grey is so sweet)
I just adopted my first cat today (of my own as an adult). He’s hiding under the bed just as expected. His shelter name was Cheddar which is cute but I didn’t think it fit him. I’ve renamed him Knut! It’s a nod to my Norwegian heritage (my grandma), and it can be shorted to Newt which I think is adorable.
For the Lady with the grandma issue, Emmanuelle is a wonderful name and you should totally go for it. But if it is really an issue and you want some ideas how about Elinor, Elnora, or Emmalina (these three just popped into my head). Hope this helps.
Girls: Esme (pronounced Esmay) Scarlet, Summer, Spring, January, Effie, Melissa, Shannon, Carrie, Posie ,Caris , we were going to name my daughter Annaleaha and call her Aleaha for a nick name .we thought it sounded like something from Anne of Green Green Gables ....but we ended up naming her Aleaha her nick name is LeeLee....I Boy: Evan, Noble, Cale, Tadgh (Tighg), Lance, Landis, Ashley, Anderson , Breck,
My mum s a teacher and she wanted a name that she hadn’t taught before so my sisters name is Freya and my name is Orla and since then she’s taught 2 Freya’s and 1 Orla which is crazy considering my name was so unique when my mum chose it 💕
I think Emmanuelle is a beautiful name 😍 and goes with Noah as well. I think that the mum will come to accept it, you have to go with with the name you love x
1 For Katie: Darcy, Faye, Tallulah for girls; Owen, Phoenix, Cohen for boys 2: For Mommy Bee: Beatrice/Beatrix, Genevieve, Juliet 3: For Rachel: Nolan, Jude, Damien 4: For Issa: Oakley! 5: For Sara: (btw i'm italian) Riccardo, Leonardo, Bruno 6: For Falon : you could maybe go with Emmie/Emmaline? Similar to Emmannuelle but a bit shorter. But i would still go with your choice - your mom had her go at naming her own babies. As a middle name: Emmannuelle Lou! And she could go by Emmie-Lou
For Occy: Cola means wave in Spanish and Ora means shore in Latin, so i was thinking something along the lines of Colien or even just Colin ? seems simple enough since the long Octavius isn’t their style
For Occy: O'Connor could be cute, it has that stylish surname as first name thing. Or something more common like Oscar even cause the strong sounds in it are O and C
So I searched for Sage, the color that was mentioned and I found the color name Reseda, and I really love this name, for some reason, which is also a greyish-green color. The name comes from a plant called "reseda odorata" (botanical) - a reseda. Yes, I´m very into botanical/plant names, lately! :) [ Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reseda_green ]
For Occy, you just need a name that has an "ock" sound somewhere in it. That opens up the options, and makes for a more clever use of the nickname.
Brock
Lachlan
Rocco
Harlock/Havelock
Locke
Braddoc
Enoch
I Love Rocco xxx

I thought Rocco too!
Oh lachlan makes sense! I thought of Ocklan but didn't think it was a real name 😂
Maybe something like Loxley could work also. 😊
For Occy- Oxford would be a unique name and he could go by occy when young, Ford when he’s old or his full name!
I never thought of Oxford as a name but I actually really like that, it has the x in it and Ford for short is really nice too!
i love Oxford!

"Loch" also means "hole" in German, in case that matters to anyone
Lochlan is a great idea!
Oooh I love Lochlan (you could also spell it Lachlan)
True and I was also thinking surely Oscar would work. Or they could give him a C middle name so he’s OC and this makes sense that his nickname might be Occy.

Clara is so similar to my name :) 👍 (haven't personally met another girl with exactly my name)
I think a good sibling match for Noah Paige would be Emma Noelle. It sounds similar to Emmanuelle, but a little shorter

I think Elodie really fits the feel of Ivy and Delilah, and is used much less
Elodie is very pretty! Thank you ☺️

How about Atlas as a brother for Thea? :)

For Katie: Ambra for a girl and Jonathan for a boy?
*
For Rachel: Jude or Hugo?
For the teacher looking for a vintage name: I think Stella is really cute. I found it in Anne Of Green Gables, like Cordelia ;)
Also, I love Rocco with the nickname Occy!
Aukland for Occy
The “S” in Yves is silent. It’s pronounced the same as Eve.
I love the name Ellis for a boy and love the Emily Bronte connection, she was the reason I first heard the name! Love it.
I think Thea and Brin sound so great together! You're good at this SJ
Ines is also a great short middle name option similar to Yves
Teacher vintage name: Ida, Veda, Sylvie/Sylvia, Manon, Hazel, Oraetta, Flora, Margot
Thanks 😊 Really like Sylvie, Hazel and Margot!
vintage:
Laith (boy; meaning lion) or Hera (girl; meaning queen)
fourth child:
Penelope (weaver) or Phoebe (shining one)
Thea’s brother:
Damon (Greek origin like Thea) or Elijah (Hebrew origin)
name for Occy:
Conan (little wolf) or Connor (wise)
italian sibling name:
Marcello (young warrior) or Lucian (latin origin meaning light)
Emmanuelle:
stick with the name Emmanuelle, it sounds great with Noa. if you did end up changing Ziva could be nice, both Noa and Ziva have Hebrew origins.
For the teacher I suggest Adua for a girl and Bruno for a boy.
For the the second dilemma I think Milena would go well with the other names.
For the sibiling for Thea maybe Bash or Casper.
A name for occy could be Niccolò (with either one or two c)
For italian boy names Riccardo, Gioele or Danilo.
These are lovely names. Thank you ☺️
You're welcome! Congrats!
For the teacher, eleanor, lilah, elise, annelise, laurel, lilith, evangeline, nell (nellie), iris, elodie, aurelia, sienna, dahlia, livia, alina
Thanks for these suggestions! I love lots of them! My faves are Eleanor, Lilah and Nellie ☺️
For the fourth child for the 2nd person, Kadence/ Cadence would be really beautiful. Mayim is also really lovely, Mayim means water
For Occy, what about having that sound at the end of the name, like Hemlock or Lannoch for example? I’m sure others could come up with more ideas.
How about Chuckie?
I heard Occy and my mind went straight to Lochlan as potential long-form
As an Emmanuelle, I’ve loved having a longer more unique name. My sisters are Vhia and Eveni so we’ve all got different amounts of syllables. All named after family members with a twist :) x
Full names for Occy could be: Oscar, Owen, Jacoby, Oslo, Odin, Oliver, Oakley, Otis, Atticus- basically any name with a C or an OC would work.
for rachel with her daughter of Thea: My middle name is Bronwyn. My brother's first name is Jay, not too common nice and short
Thanks! Ada and Arlo are such sweet names 🥰
For the lady looking for an Italian boy's name, I've always loved Cesare. 😊
For Occy, what about an O C combo for first and middle? So the first thing I thought of was Otis Carlisle. Could also go with Otto, Odie, Oliver, Ollie, etc and Charlie, Charles, Casey, Cooper, etc for a middle?
Name for teacher:
Nellie, Felicity, or Josie
Davy, Edwin, or Felix
4th baby name:
Jane, Evangeline, or Beatrice
Brother for Thea:
Bennett, Jens , and i really like SJ’s suggestion of Tristan!
Name for Occy:
Nico, or Oakes
Italian name:
Stefano, Adriano
Emmanuelle:
If she wants to completely change the name, maybe Clara-Mae? But Emmanulle is so beautiful, and i really loved SJ’s suggestions of Emmanuelle Grey! (And the nickname Emmie Grey is so sweet)
Nellie is a lovely name. Thank you!
Love Bennet as a brother for Thea!
Girls: Esme (pronounced Esmay) Scarlet, Summer, Spring, January, Effie, Melissa, Shannon, Carrie, Posie ,Caris , we were going to name my daughter Annaleaha and call her Aleaha for a nick name .we thought it sounded like something from Anne of Green Green Gables ....but we ended up naming her Aleaha her nick name is LeeLee....I
Boy: Evan, Noble, Cale, Tadgh (Tighg), Lance, Landis, Ashley, Anderson , Breck,
My mum s a teacher and she wanted a name that she hadn’t taught before so my sisters name is Freya and my name is Orla and since then she’s taught 2 Freya’s and 1 Orla which is crazy considering my name was so unique when my mum chose it 💕
I’m from Ireland so Orla/Orlaith are very common here! Still a beautiful name 🥰
OCCY : Oakland, Ocre, Caollan, Corren, Kaolin, Orchis, Orchid
Emmanuelle is a gorgeous name. Go for it! I think Blake would be a lovely middle name - Emmanuelle Blake.
I think Emmanuelle is a beautiful name 😍 and goes with Noah as well. I think that the mum will come to accept it, you have to go with with the name you love x
to Noah and Emmanuelle’s mum: go with what YOU love! although, grandma might lighten up a bit if you tell her that she can call her Emmy or Elle hahah
1 For Katie: Darcy, Faye, Tallulah for girls; Owen, Phoenix, Cohen for boys
2: For Mommy Bee: Beatrice/Beatrix, Genevieve, Juliet
3: For Rachel: Nolan, Jude, Damien
4: For Issa: Oakley!
5: For Sara: (btw i'm italian) Riccardo, Leonardo, Bruno
6: For Falon : you could maybe go with Emmie/Emmaline? Similar to Emmannuelle but a bit shorter. But i would still go with your choice - your mom had her go at naming her own babies. As a middle name: Emmannuelle Lou! And she could go by Emmie-Lou
Did anyone else finish SJ’s sentence when she said ‘Bryn means hill in welsh’ 🤣 #gavinandstacey
For Occy: Cola means wave in Spanish and Ora means shore in Latin, so i was thinking something along the lines of Colien or even just Colin ? seems simple enough since the long Octavius isn’t their style
Brother for Thea, how about: Rory, Crew, Jesse or Austin
I love the name Flora, it could be an option for the teacher/Mum to be 💛
Thank you! This is a really pretty name and my fiancé and I got engaged in Florence so seems fitting!
Lachlan or variations could be a good full name for occy, also has a similar water vibe
For Occy: O'Connor could be cute, it has that stylish surname as first name thing. Or something more common like Oscar even cause the strong sounds in it are O and C
For the teacher- Seren, Wren, Ismay, Matilda which could be shortened to Tilly, Evie or Florence. Boy names- Archie, Joel, Parker, Evan or Elliot.
Thanks! I love the name Elliot 😍
For the lady having a 4th:
Girl: Victoria, Briony
Boy: Franklin, Jesse
Issa, Oculus is a bit out there, but it means ‘eye’ in Latin or an opening/window and it’s a really beautiful strong male name
So I searched for Sage, the color that was mentioned and I found the color name Reseda,
and I really love this name, for some reason, which is also a greyish-green color.
The name comes from a plant called "reseda odorata" (botanical) - a reseda.
Yes, I´m very into botanical/plant names, lately! :)

For the OC lady, what about Caradoc. Means amiable or beloved.
oooh I love that xx
