I found Aswad on August 25th when I was on holiday in Spain and they played Don’t Turn Around on the radio. I thought of it as just another song but because I like UB40’s tracks and it sounded similar, I decided to find the song so I could listen to it clearly back in the room. I immediately fell in love and began listening to all of Aswad’s music. Then the shocking news came in on September 2nd about Zeb’s death, just days after I began listening to Aswad’s music. Me and my father were in disbelief.

I found Pauline's interview approach to be overly combative, and also she seemed a bit of out of touch when talking about the politics and spirituality. Brinsley and Drummie handled it perfectly though. Rest in Power Drummie Zeb ✊🏿🙏🏿

Yeah, found that too re: Pauline, fine to ask those questions I guess but she came across a bit, as you say combative and I felt interogative - either way, yes, big up Aswad. Met Drummie and spent an evening with him, chiiling, smoking, many years ago before they were big so to speak, one cool brother, down to earth bro, genuinely top guy at that time.

She then brought The Selecter back in 1990 and are still going riding on the nostalgia bandwagon and have done 14 albums since getting back together and have had zero impact on the charts.

CBS released arguably two of their biggest/best releases; "A New Chapter" & "Not Satisfied", but ONLY released in the UK. Island released "A New Chapter of Dub" internationally, gaining more success than its vocal project and its following release.
CBS truly did drop the ball with Aswad, and did a pretty shifty job with Third World too, if you ask me. The HARDEST releases to find from Third World are the CBS releases. "You've Got the Power" had 2 songs written by Stevie Wonder, but somehow, was the toughest album to find in the U.S.! How can this be? Stevie was THE MAN at the time.
I remember meeting Aswad fans, growing up, who LOVED "A New Chapter of Dub", but thought there was never a vocal release! They used to get categorized as a "Dub Band" because of the misunderstanding.
Aswad's "New Chapter" and "Not Satisfied" didn't get released here in the US until 2002, TWENTY YEARS LATER, with bonus tracks. Of course they never republished Third World's legendary releases while on CBS (they didn't even upload them on Apple Music), but this is CBS, so at least we FINALLY got to enjoy the vocal mixes eventually. 🙄
P.S. Island Records did drop the ball on publishing Aswad releases like "Rebel Souls", but at least we knew of its existence.

Pauline Black was terrible as the anchor for this show. She was really bad 👎 😔. They were really patient with her ignorance. A class musicians sounding great live

Totally agree. Terrible interview. She clearly positioned herself as near anti Rastafarian like many a typical West Indian parent did back in the day. & anti the foundation of which Aswan stood for. She may have name checked Bob Marley, but Bob himself was not only a friend & supporter of the band, but they were also collaborators on Vinyl too.
For me as a Black person born here [UK], I am proud of Aswad & what they represent.
Pauline Black, I respect you now as I did back in the day, but I’m afraid given that Aswad very rarely had an interview on British TV at least, you dropped the ball on this one🫣

Agreed. I was utterly appalled by her line of idiotic and ignorant questioning. You could see how fed up they were to have their message of consciousness minimalised.

As soon as they got real and answer the question to watch she asks she censored and cut it off. So good that we can publish and broadcast ourselves and not depend on the system anymore. ❤
