    These are both such gorgeous watches. Recently I was debating between the two (although different variants) and ended up grabbing a 1601 for a great price, however there’s something so beautifully humble about a vintage Tudor. On a side note, I think the 34/36mm oyster cases are absolutely perfect for all men, away with the huge gaudy pieces!

    • @leomedina5614
      @leomedina5614 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s funny you say that because even the 34mm that seems small to a lot of people wears bigger than what it looks. I have a Oysterquartz 36mm and it feels for sure bigger than it looks as well.

      I would love to say they do, but if it falls under the approved standard overall of $750-$950 they will not call to confirm, unless the client sends specific instructions with the AD that’s sending the watch in.

    • @gregwhite5027

      With hand sets it’s tough. Since they are friction fit and need to be removed for servicing, it’s not usually a good idea to replace them with the originals.

    • @AbstractMan23
      @AbstractMan23 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gregwhite5027 thanks for the info, but what exactly is 'friction fit'?

    • @gregwhite5027
      @gregwhite5027 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AbstractMan23 the hands are press fir against a post that is close enough to the size of the hole that the hands will stay on solely from the friction between the two. As such, over time, the hole in the original hands gets slowly enlarged and eventually they don’t fit quite as snugly as they did when they were new. It’s slight, but over time they wear just like all moving parts. These only move when removed and replaced, but the friction involved is far greater than any other moving part.

    imo, u cant go wrong with either, when we talk vintage/older Tudor/Rolex. its like a Tudor big block VS the Daytona ..both have their glory. watches like these, have SOUL. These days theres a huge marked secondhand, for watches at 34-36mm, and at low price, its a win win in my book, u really get something for your money, contra a new 2017 watch. great review as always, a great way to spent some time on a Saturday evening, so thx:-)

    • @XstonedmonkeyzX
      @XstonedmonkeyzX 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Rolex does not set the prices... people do. People buy them at those prices, people then sell them at those prices. Until they just don't buy at the same rate, and then they start lowering again and its and endless loop.

      Not to mention the holier than though attitude of Rolex snobs, I mean owners. Tudor is a great brand, it’s a Rolex under a different name, for all intents and purposes it’s a fricking Rolex. Sorry, not sorry Rolex “owners” 😂

    Great video. Both look nice. The old Rolex jubilee bracelets I think age well in that they still hold a shine and stretch does not bother me at all. My dad had that same style Rolex but from 1987 and it had a champagne tapestry dial and the DJ became my grail because of it. I have his watch now but achieved purchasing my own mid 2016, a brand new of the year 116234 all silver with jubilee and fluted bezel. I love it to death, but I do wish Rolex made various dials the way they did in the past. My dad's DJ has the date wheel like you mentioned and nothing has be replaced or serviced... it still runs smooth and accurate to less than 1 sec a day (but only wore for 1 day straight). Once again great video.

  • @chillwill120

    I think the reason why the crown stem is showing is not related to the case being overpolished. I've seen this issue before; when Rolex puts in a new crown and stem in a datejust with an older case, the fit is not 100% perfect and you get that gap.

    Also, everyone I talk to about the cyclops who hates it it’s always because it’s just so popular. They just hate the idea of blending in the society and want to stand out somehow. This is what I’ve seen pretty much every single case. It’s iconic, and extremely practical. There’s no reason not to want it.

      My biggest bug bear is the misalignment of the date wheel on my Tudor. Contacted Tudor to have it corrected but they said it’s within their “tolerances”. So whenever my date is in the 20’s, part of the 2 is obscured behind the dial. Annoying in a £2000 watch,

    So the jubilee gold accents on the Tudor bracelet are solid gold and not plated? The older prince oysterdates bracelets were gold plated accents. And one can definitely tell as that plating starts to fade with age. Great upgrade on the new prince date versions if the good accents are solid now. I have both the oysterdate and datejust and to me the size looks the same when I wear either one. I'm old school and love the smaller 34 and 36 classic sizes. The bigger dials are OK it ust wouldn't be my first pick. When I get an explorer I'm sticking to the classic 36 size maybe even an explorer reference 5500.
    Btw, the Tudor looks cherry like it was just bought yesterday. Either you rarely wear it or you are super duper anal with it lol
