    He ran so hard. He was my favorite player. He was made some promises by Butch Jones about how he would be used and the changes were not upheld. Jones used him like a human battering ram. When Kamara got the ball you didn't know where he was going, with Hurd it was always between the tackles. He was already getting injuries to his legs and knees as a soph and it got worse as a junior. He also ran without enough lean and thus at 6'4" he ran too tall. I think he knew this and wanted to switch to WR to avoid further injuries. He was an absolute beast when pass blocking. LB would blitz up the middle, run into Hurd, stop 100%, and go 2 steps back. He blew up blitzers. You could hear the collisions in the upper deck. He should have been an H-back or TE in my opinion. So much talent. I hope he's doing well. Injuries didn't end my football career. It was the fact I was a 185 lb 2nd string nose guard. So I was like Hurd & Matt but without all that annoying talent.

      Yeah to think Kamara was 2nd string is nuts. Jones was a horrible coach. Hurd should have been gotten the ball in space more or played at TE with Kamara at RB. Hurd switching to WR was a huge career killing decision. I think he was way to selfish to play WR. He would have been a nightmare at TE for defenses. He had once in a generation speed and size. TE size with WR speed . Sad story.

    There’s a lot more to the story of Jalen Hurd. I live right down the road from Beech HS. He was a phenomenon, there’s was a huge buzz around town about this kid at Beech that was killing it at RB. He was recruited by Nick Saban at Alabama, Ohio State, everybody. He had a reputation in HS as entitled and thought he was the 💩, so I’ve heard. I’m not trying to throw shade at the guy bc I loved his game. At Tennessee his mom got thrown out of the 2016 Florida Tennessee game for disorderly conduct or fighting and drinking. Also in the 2016 Georgia game (the one where Jennings caught the Hail Mary) coach Butch Jones lit into him on the sidelines for a fumble which would’ve been a TD. Then Jalen comes back later in the game and scores a TD and walks up to Butch Jones and says F*ck YOU to his face. Jalen gets benched in the rest of that game other than the “hands”
    Team on kickoff return. He didn’t make the flight down to the Texas A&M game that year bc of disciplinary reasons. He was a cancer in the locker room is what I was told by ppl in the know up there. But it came to a boil when at South Carolina he was up to some more of his shenanigans and Joshua Dobbs went off on him bc Jalen was purposely not putting in the effort and I believe we lost that game effectively killing our chances to go to an SEC championship. Next day players, captains went to Coach Jones and voiced there displeasure, anger about Hurd’s antics. The next day or so he quits the team. That’s the real story. If he would’ve stayed at Tennessee he would’ve been the all time leading rusher in Tennessee football history. He was clearly on his way to that record.

    • @michaelbee2165
      @michaelbee2165 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      And this was before NIL and the transfer portal. Good grief, imagine the locker room cancer if he'd had all that money. Sucks about all the injuries, killing any chance at all at a pro career. If this is who he really was, based on a number of similar comments here, it sounds to me like God was trying to get his attention. Well, Hurd evidently wasn't listening, and that pro career went gone.

    • @BrianMan3000
      @BrianMan3000 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And he actually played in a San Francisco pre season game at wr and played very well. Looked the part. Then he got injured. I used to workout at a gym with a guy that personally trained Jalen and I saw some of videos in the weight room and the kid was super athletic and talented.

    The main reason he transferred is because UT wouldn't use him more as a receiver (which is what he allegedly requested) because the constant workload of playing RB was taking it's toll physically, the fact we couldn't put Hurd out more as a receiver and give most the carries to Kamara really sums up the Butch Jones era, GBO.

    • @1stofer
      @1stofer 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      One way or another both of them should have been on the field at same time. Hurd was a premadonna and was surrounded by people that were counting the money it seems. You could see his very inconsistent play very obviously. He had the ability to run like a mad man but if he didn't like the play call he would not put in much effort at all. So many people noticed that it was frustrating to watch.

    Im a UT fan and those who know, know that Hurd and his family wanted him to move outside (either WR or TE) after like his freshman year. The issue is that Butch Jones trash behind didnt see that Alvin at RB and Hurd at TE or WR would have made a decent UT offense even more explosive. But that's what happens when Butch Jones is your Head Coach.

    Thanks for the video Matt. A lot of people forgot or didnt know what all happpened when Hurd was here.
    Its also worth noting that he almost transferred after his sophomore season as well. The biggest issue wasnt moving to WR, but the offensive style. 'Bitch' Jones ran an RPO offense and used Hurd as a battering ram between the tackles. To keep Hurd from leaving after his 2nd year, Jones told him they would run more traditional pro sets, I formation with a full back (which is what Hurd wanted). But of course that idiot jones was lying and they again ran all RPO sets. The heavy work load coupled with Hurds running style (power runner but had a hard time staying low and very litttle lean when he ran) took a toll on his body
    The entire situation was mismanaged on both sides but in the end, I dont blamed him for leaving. Jones was a total a$$ hat.

I guess it is one of those situations where you grow up being the best and not really having to try hard because you have the natural talent, but then eventually those that have worked hard catch up to your level and surpass you, all the while you don't even realize it and still believe you're the best. He didn't seem to recognize the need to keep trying to get better and maybe felt everything was just a filler until he got to the NFL. Based on statements from his teammates and local sports media about his locker room behavior, lack of effort in practices/games, and what us fans could see at games and in public, before he chose to leave fans were already understanding, despite his awesome talent, he was a rot on the team.

    Do a story about aaron harris. He was one of the best high school running backs on the east coast and went to penn state. He was one of the most monstorous dudes to ever come out of pa. Him and kobe were competeing for the best high school athlete in philly. It was him and kobe on the philadelphia high school sports show. He was that dominant to the point a lot of people felt he should won high school athlete of the year over kobe

    I was a bouncer at scruffy Murphys in 2017 and 2018 the local college bar by Baylor I talked to Herd when he came to Baylor he said he transferred because he wanted to be a receiver and Tennessee wouldn't let him change positions. He wanted to be a WR sooner because of the toll being a running back takes on your body and how long running backs Play in the leauge

    High School was too easy for him at Beech. Tennessee doesn't have the greatest football program in the nation, it's slacking. He made 2 boneheaded plays in college that sealed his fate for the Vols. In that one play, he celebrated too early before crossing the goal line got popped by the defender, and fumbled. He was too thin to be a college running back from the get-go. But he and Golden Tate put on a clinic here in Hendersonville. well? JPll may be in Goodlettsville

    Jones lied to him. He didn’t want to carry that crazy workload that was breaking him down and Jones called the plays anyway. The kid was used as a battering ram for 3 years. If he had transitioned to WR, he would still be playing now. His injuries stem from taking so many shots to his legs. Dude was 6'4 playing RB and didn’t have Derrick Henry tree trunks.

    Where is the rest of the story? He didn’t have injuries his junior year. The reason he only played 7 games well 6 and a half. He quit in the middle of a game😂😂😂. He was showboating walking into the end zone got cracked and fumbled then he eventually quit! I will say Butch was a terrible coach but to quit on your team and teammates. Yeah great character right there😅.

    Everyone sounds like they are giving him a ton excuses and blaming Jones for many of his problems. He had a poor attitude. His little ball flip before crossing the endzone hurt his career and put Kamara into the limelight. Now doubt he had unlimited talent but so do many others. Mental and physical injuries are part of the game. His attitude played a large part of his short career.
