- We return for the second year on the trot to one of my favourite (and testing) cross country venues, Isleham, for their Pony Club Hunter Trial Event. Last year I took Ember for a spin round the 80cm... so this year it was time to give the 90cm a shot! Let me know what you think in the comments 🥰

Wow! What a difference! Well riden Lucy and well jumped Ember! He truly is honest and brave with those jumps. Looking at your shadow, he was galloping along in balance, no jumping about and lunging! 👏👏🙂

That course had some questions for a 90!
The last time you wore the GoPro I wouldn't have gotten on that horse for money LOL. This time? I wished I were there! He's come a LONG way. I know you were out of breath, but you weren't desperately begging for control--he seemed much more rideable. And we got to see his nice neck this time instead of his ears slamming back into the camera LOL. Seeing him actually cantering FORWARD, rather than up and down, and without constantly swapping leads is a MASSIVE improvement. He still needs to learn to use his neck and really bascule over fences--he's coasting on his talent LOL. More gymnastics!! But WOW. What a great way to end the season. 🙂
It’s amazing to see what you see he has grown so much in confidence there is a definite difference between last year and this year he is honest and bold and has scope he is a good boy

Lucy that was so brilliant being on the GoPro with you! Please do that more often. I loved it. I felt quite exhausted by the end 😂😂😂 What a difference in your boy from last year. I could tell while you were going round the course that you seemed not to be fighting with him, and it was amazing that you were able to slow him down, and that you stopped him so easily at the end of the course. Watching back the two videos you can see the big difference between now and then. All that training and hard work is paying off. He's so brave too! Those tricky jumps he just sailed over. I thought the ditch and palisade at the end was HUGE but he just sailed over, you giving a whoop! I had hoped you'd end up in the first three, but still, you were placed and that is fantastic. Well done to you both 💝💝💝

WOW, that turn to the corner was brutal. Well ridden the whole way through and Ember looked incredible! What a difference between this and last year.

I have zero experience of horses or eventing but I am learning a lot thorugh your videos! Thus was great and even i can see the development in a year. Such a lovely rhythm and your are so calm and encouragjng! I had no idea it was such physically hard work for you too guven the breathing at the end lol. Such an exciting sport!
Watching the 2023 run I'm a little amazed you didn't get a bumped nose.

Wow they've increased the distance around Isleham! This is where I spent all my child/teen years at Soham Pony Club.
Thought being back nr Newmarket we'd see some one instead of two strides again.. but he was fantastic!

Ember enjoyed himself, he loves cross country and is relaxing a bit more. You really got a workout didn't you, that kind of riding is hard work. Congratulations on your 5th place finish, well done!
Lucy, someday can you film a 1st place win on the cross country so I can see how your judging system works. I think you and Amber will be in the red an blue's next year for sure!! Ride,ride,ride! Wet saddle blankets are made by winners.....speaking from experience from years ago. I'm 77 now and retired riding at age 66. Can't ride with an oxygen tank 😢. Farmers lung, from too much dust 😢
Wow! Ember and you both continue to make such good progress together! I started watching your vlogs in the beginning of your partnership, and I’ll admit that I had my doubts about Ember. But you’ve done a fabulous job with him! NO clue how you see over that high bibbing head, but you do. Looks like he goes like a rocking horse. But he has gotten SO much braver…that ditch palisade he was like “just hang on Mom, I got this!” His jumping technique has improved by leaps and bounds as well. Very impressive round by both of you! I definitely can’t wait to see more! 😍
P.S.- how are you able to ride him XC without gloves?? I can’t even hack one of my quiet horses without gloves. I have a hard time keeping my reins from slipping. Back when I did show jumping full time, I used rrally grippy rubber reins, so my hot horses couldn’t yank the reins through my hands. Now I’m doing hunters over fences (yes, I’m in America), and we have to use plain or braided reins. They can be a bit slippy! The plus side is when I miss a distance to a jump and get left behind, I can easily slip my reins so that I avoid yanking my horse in the mouth 🤷🏻♀️

Great job both of you! Ember has come so far this year ❤ It's funny how he was doing so many lead changes last year throughout the course 😂. Even that has improved! I'm so happy for you Lucy, there's so much to love about where you're at right now. So funny, I usually sit here holding my breath and freaking out for you and this time he was so calm and rideable ❤❤❤ I just love his sassy little self!

That was a very interesting view!!! Amazing how he gained speed along the way. Great job. Great recoveries from virtual standstill and crazy angles. What a massive progress in such a short time. Whooo hoooo.
I guess you have yet to experience dislocated thumbs riding with your thumbs at three and nine o’clock and not the traditional 12 noon 😂

I only mention it because trust me, it bloody hurts and they take forever to mend. You have no idea how useless we are without our thumbs 🤪 good job though x
