Hiddins show was the first time i ever saw Aboriginals respected/revered in the media growing up. Even now the show holds up as a high water mark for the discussion and discovery of what Australia really is. It's a shame that we gravitate to hyperbolic entertainment rather than his more stripped down approach.

as a Bushman myself, i have huge admiration for the respect he has shown and given from/by the indigenous communities, as a Maori in the Bushcraft scene, he inspires me always to new heights when it comes to knowledge of the bush, not just food, but mainly other resources such as medicines, shelter, tools from the bush. Yearly i have a huge binge on the old fellas in wilderness survival/living skills and his vhs tapes of the Bush Tucker man and his other series are always the first ones i watch. Then Dick Proenneke then Ron Hood and many many many more.

Those old Bush Tucker Man shows are great. I grew up in Hawaii and we became very poor, so I learned to find bush tucker myself. And it's amazing, I never got poisoned or even sick off of anything, and we ate things that in books are described as highly poisonous, meanwhile things that were actually poisonous, we somehow knew to avoid.

What a legend!! Just bought the series dvds for the Bush tucker man. The website looks great. But no good if your out bush. A hard copy would be just as, if not more useful. Especially if your out bush.
